Transmigrated to Game World with SSS Wife-Chapter 90: Path of Annihilation — Facing Asmodeus Pt.2
In times of death, time seems to slow down to a standstill.
An entire life flashes through the victim’s eyes—their life. The ups and downs, successes and struggles. Their achievements clash with their regrets as if being judged.
Was their life lived well or in vain?
Did they live up to their potential or not?
The ones they left behind... would they be ok?
Did they do enough?
Nick gritted his teeth as he held his Fang tightly. Steadying his vision, Nick watched as the beast made its next advance. A flash of dark red fur and metallic claws lunged, faster than lightning.
Once again, he couldn’t dodge. Even as he placed all of his focus into dodging, he couldn’t.
A faint sound of his Fang clattering against the ground could somehow be heard even as he slammed into the wall. His back spasmed against the impact as his ears started ringing.
He could feel blood trickle from multiple places by now. Ears, eyes, mouth, they all became a faucet, a place to drain his life. Somewhere to the side, he could see the system flashing his health points. However, he already could barely see the beast through his bloody eyes.
Allowing the system to be an additional distraction would surely be a death sentence.
[Progenitor, listen to me!!! Activate your [Farseeing Eyes] now!!]
’Farseeing Eyes?’ Nick realized very quickly that his system wasn’t flashing his current health status. It was showing some skill Asmodeus was using. And if the system was making a point out of it...
’Oh no...’
[SSS-Rank Area Skill: The Stifling Sin — All Zone State skills are completely nullified.]
A short but unfathomably powerful description. Just by existing... this beast would deny his will?
That would mean he couldn’t let himself get injured anymore. In earlier fights, he could at least find some hope when near death with the massive amp his skill [Emperor’s Will] gave. Now, it was clear he would be outstatted for this entire fight. If he lost his wits for even a second, he would die.
Nick surveyed the room as best as he could, looking for any kind of advantage he could find. Unfortunately, there weren’t many places he could use as cover. Beside the circle throne and a few bricks jutting out of the ground here and there, the place was completely bare except for blood.
His blood was dripping more every second, eager to join the monotonous nature of this hellscape.
’Blood on blood... of course a nightmarish place like this would- oh.’
Nick mentally slapped himself as he thought ’You fucking idiot.’
The ring; the [Circlet of the Remembered]. It contained Dyr, the demon commander guy who controlled blood. This place would practically be his playground.
If only Asmodeus would give him a chance to activate the ring.
Every part of the room shook as the beast continued leaping forward. Now that his mind was back in the present instead of worrying about that skill, Nick realized his body had been moving instinctively.
If it hadn’t, he would’ve already been skewered by its claws. Even now, he knew he was one misplaced jump from being eviscerated anyway.
Claws lurched forward in a blur with strikes so quick even light had a difficult time following. Nick swapped between using his Fang and his legs, one instance able to parry a strike but then the very next barely barrel-dodging away from certain death.
All the while, Asmodeus showed no signs of slowing down. Rather... well, it was like an endless energy tank. A being that lived purely for destruction, and thus had no problem with fighting for eternity.
Nick felt differently, already feeling sweat dribble down his face and into his mouth. To make things worse, his breathing was deep and haggard due to exhaustion. Salt filled his tastebuds as he slightly began missing the tangy taste of copper.
Though it wasn’t all bad, he supposed. Such a horrible taste showed him he was still alive. As long as he was alive, he could still find a way to activate the ring. All he needed was one opening, enough time to reach for his hand and touch the ring.
’Rather a bullshit design.’ He thought, much preferring the universe where rings were activated by a thought.
There was nothing that could be done about that though.
He had to find a way to break the cycle. Simply parrying and dodging wasn’t going to get the outcome he needed. Cursing the world as he watched this behemoth of darkness running him down, Nick decided to be a little stupid.
’Eh. Just don’t disable my Durable skill, ok.’
Just before one of Asmodeus’s arms slammed into Nick’s chest, raking it with a nasty array of claws, Nick slammed his hand on the ring. 2 things happened simultaneously afterward.
First, Nick was flung into a wall with such force he stuck in it for a second. His gaze was dazy again, this time arguably much worse than when he had been bleeding from every possible area. However, his triumph was clear as day.
This is because of the second thing that happened: Dyr, the beautiful bastard that he was, was summoned from the ring.
For just a second the demon rejoiced in his renewed existence. Taking a quick glance at his hands, he clenched them to make sure they could still move. When his hand clenched into a fist, he smiled.
Asmodeus roared, infuriated that its prey had tricked him. The beast had dealt a killing blow, so by all accounts, the battle should be over. But... not only did Nick survive, he called in help.
Ridiculous.
Charging at Dyr, Asmodeus could barely hold in his animalistic rage as he crashed his arm through the air. Drawing in the ample blood of his surroundings, Dyr created a shield that easily blocked this strike.
Then he motioned with his other hand and called forth on even more blood, this batch coming from the circle throne itself. With a wave of his hand, he turned the blood into thousands of sharp projectiles.
Nick smiled, knowing they would impale Asmodeus soon enough. The battle was over, they were going to win.

Whack! Whack! Whack!
Whack! Whack!
The beast’s arm slammed into Dyr again and again. After just the first strike, Dyr’s shield had already been broken and he himself had become nothing more than red paste on the ground.
However, that wasn’t enough for the beast. Asmodeus hated trickery more than anything. And the King just tried to trick him.
Asmodeus growled as he lowered his head to the ground, completely lowering his guard. As he licked the blood of an extinguished memory, his message was clear.
Nick had no hopes for victory.
