Transmigrated with my corruption system-Chapter 67: Breaking the Rank Barrier
"You’re bold," Orros growled, an offended glint flashing across his eyes before he spat,
"But it won’t be enough to save you!"
Barely a moment after the words parted from his lips, his figure charged forward, bloodlust burning in his eyes.
A smile slowly carved across his face as the dark-robed youth didn’t move. Was he so afraid he couldn’t move under the weight of his aura? Or was he just so weak he couldn’t follow his movements enough to dodge?
Whatever it was, it didn’t matter as his blade slashed through his head in a clean arc, making the wind scream behind him.
When he lowered his blade, he nodded slightly. The boy probably didn’t even realize he was dead.
But that was the cost of such folly! Someone still a little wet behind the ears thought they could challenge him and walk away as if nothing happened? Death was the only price!
Just as he was about to turn around and stare at the expressions of the Greyson elders, his expression suddenly froze. Something wasn’t right.
The sound of a head collapsing to the ground should have echoed by now.
Turning his head slightly, his thoughts were confirmed.
His blade was not laced with the dark-robed figure’s blood, and more than that,
the figure he had just pierced through was slowly reducing to dark particles.
A mirage? That could only mean the youth had moved so fast the air didn’t have time to register his movements. Or he had just straight-out vanished. But where to?
His question was answered almost instantly. Behind him, he felt the air rupture as a figure appeared. But it was too late to react as a punch crashed down into his back.
Sending him skidding forward, with a pained look in his eyes. Looking down at his hands, and the resulting damage he had just unleashed, a feral smile crept across his face as he was unable to restrain the excitement burning deep inside him.
Apart from shadow teleportation proving especially useful mid-combat, this was the first time he punched something since he broke through without crumbling!
Orros wasn’t as pleased as the dark-robed youth. Regaining his footing, he turned to examine the youth as a frown formed across his face.
Besides the youth’s mysterious ability to suddenly vanish into thin air without a trace, the force he had just exerted caused his eyes to narrow dangerously.
That was far beyond what any E-rank could exert. If he didn’t know any better, he would have assumed he was facing off against another D-rank being. But the aura... strength... it didn’t make any sense.
What was more absurd was how casual the youth seemed about it. Unable to keep his thoughts in check, his mouth slowly opened.
"Y-you... how did you do that?"
Tilting his head slightly, Ulric ignored the question entirely as he cast his newly upgraded intermediate appraisal on the crimson-robed figure to get a better read on him.
The results caused the smile on his face to widen.
[Name: Orros Bloodhound]
[Rank: Level 57 D-rank]
[Threat level: High]
As he muttered, "For a low-level D-rank being... you sure do love to brag a lot."
Shaking his head slowly, it seemed among D-rank beings, he really was among those at the bottom of the barrel, given level 50 marked the entry level to D-rank.
At the side, a chuckle bubbled out of Greyson’s throat. The smile on his face widening as some colour rushed back into his cheeks.
Based on the first exchange, he could see it as a raspy whisper parted from his lips.
"He did it!" Ulric had enough power to go against a D-rank being such as Orros. If he played his cards just right, he might just win, he mused as his eyes sparkled with excitement.
The elders behind him flashed similar expressions, murmurs breaking out as smug grins spread across their faces while watching the young lord’s power at play.
Before one of them couldn’t restrain himself anymore.
"Kick his ass, young lord!" Elder Rysten murmured, the wrinkles on his face easing slightly as a shameless smile spread across his face.
At other times, it would be unbecoming of him to mutter such words as a respectable elder. But this... this was a special occasion.
Beside him, a faint smile spread across Mistress Aria’s face as she rubbed the bridge of her nose gently, her head shaking slowly as the youth’s taunting words drifted into her ears.
It was one thing to come out on top in the first clash, but to press it in by mocking a D-rank being couldn’t help but leave her speechless.
As her gaze peered ahead to the youth, he really was a wild card. She just hoped his words were backed by strength. After all, battles weren’t won with a single move.
Hearing the jeers from the side, Orros’ face contorted as he bit his tongue so hard he almost drew blood.
No one had ever humiliated him like this and lived to tell the tale. He didn’t care how the youth had seen through his exact rank, something he had gone through extra measures to keep hidden.
But one thing was certain. The youth wouldn’t be making it out of this battlefield... in one piece.
With that thought in mind, he charged forward, gripping his sword tighter than ever as a yell tore through his lips.
"Don’t get too cocky, you little brat!"
Watching the charging figure, Ulric smiled. He could easily shadow teleport behind him again and unleash another sneak attack.
But he had a different plan as unquenchable battle intent flashed across his eyes.
When Orros closed in, his eyes narrowed, tapping fully into his enhanced instincts and senses, allowing him to twist his body at an unnatural angle as the blade skimmed past him.
When it passed over him, his body jerked back up as his fists clashed with the hilt of the sword, letting the two forces collide at full strength.
The momentum generated imploded into a shockwave, sending dust and rubble flying, obscuring the sight temporarily.
When it cleared, all the figures present couldn’t help but widen their eyes in surprise.
The first attack was explainable given it was a sneak attack. But this was an equal exchange of strength, with the results even more shocking.
Exhaling sharply, Ulric smiled at the results. Both of them had been sent flying back, but looking down at his body, not a single scratch was on him. His robe momentarily shimmered with faint runes, causing the smile on his face to widen. 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ𝑤𝑒𝑏𝑛𝘰𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝒸𝑜𝘮
With the latest upgrade to his robe, it could absorb 25% of all force directed towards him from F-rank to D-rank beings.
As if that wasn’t enough, his body barely felt any strain, besides a bit of soreness across his forearms.
It seemed he had truly underestimated the monstrosity of his advanced mortal corrupted physique.
Any lingering doubt vanished. With his physique alone, he could go toe to toe with low-ranked D beings.
With those thoughts raging within him, his head slowly lifted.
Before Orros could react, his figure shot forward as his aura sharpened.
It was time to see whether a D-rank was truly beyond his reach.
