Transmigrating from a zombie world to become the mecha kings wife-Chapter 385: After the dream comes reality

Severus stayed behind to observe Esong and see what he was up to. He had approached Lythia about the peculiarities of the human but nothing came of it. Once again, the human had stimulated his interest and he intended to dig up what made him different from others.

Unaware that they were being watched, Esong and his men arrested fugitives that were hiding in the observation station and returned to their mechas. Nothing out of the blue happened and Severus found himself sighing in disappointment because he was expecting something no matter how small.

"I will not give up." he said and blinked, teleporting to the underworld.

Two hours later, Scarlet woke up, took a bath and prepared to take Justin for his first day of the new school term. The little one was dressed in his official school uniform of blue and white and he had a bag on his back.

When she found him, he was sitting in the chair with his two legs swinging back and forth with an impatient look on his face. Cecily was combing his hair which was already neat but in desperate need of a trimming.

"Hmm, mommy we are going to be late." He complained, pouted and folded his small arms.

"Sorry baby mommy overslept." she told him. "Turn around so that I can put your lunch in the bag."

He turned around, still pouting while Cecily took pictures happily causing Justin cute, handsome, adorable and other words praising his good looks which put the little one in a good mood.

Scarlet stuffed a container, a packet of milk and bottled juice in the bag. As she did so, she nagged him like every other dotting mother.

"Do not fight with your friends at school, and do not give your teachers a hard time. The school gives compulsory meals so eat that if you do not want the breakfast or lunch I have packed for you. You can share your snacks with your friends, I have packed a lot for that reason. Also, don’t kick the dirt, stones or trees with your shoes when you play outside. If you damage your new shoes I will not give you new shoes."

"Scarlet we are really going to be late." Cecily reminded her. "Esong is already for the two of you at the main gates."

Reminded of that, she rubbed her thumbs across Justin’s eyebrows. "Mmm, there we go, my handsome boy." she kissed him on the cheek.

Justin giggled and turned the other side of his face. "This one too mommy." he said in his small voice.

She fulfilled his request and then pulled his head forward, bringing their foreheads together. "I love you, you know that." she told him.

"I love you too mommy." he said.

She stood up, took his hand and they walked quickly before an already impatient Esong could come looking for them.

She found him tapping the dashboard of the car impatiently with his fingers.

"Sorry, sorry, it’s my fault. I woke up late and then I had to take a bath and prepare his snacks." she explained.

Esong looked at the time and sighed. He was personally driving his small family to the school and Cecily would be following them in her own car.

During the car ride, Scarlet constantly kept look back at Justin who was watching a cartoon shown on BSTV daily of a cow and sheep that competed in spelling and reading games.

She heard the cow saying, "Moo, it’s time to learn how to count, if you have two apples and two oranges how many fruits do you have?"

She saw Justin counting the figures on his fingers and then he input his answer directly on the tablet. He was concentrated so much that she decided not to bother him unnecessarily.

"You woke up early. I did not see you when I woke up and the bed was cold." she said to Esong.

He moved one of his hands to her side and held her right hand. "We will be leaving tomorrow for the sky station, I will be back in two weeks I hope. The rules have been changed to accommodate married mecha warriors so we work in shifts. Two weeks away and two weeks at home, I don’t want to be away for so long unless it’s a very serious expedition. I have to prepare my men, equipment, ships and mechas. By the way, this morning we also located some deserters on an old star observation station far from here. The planet is very big and we cannot cover every place at the same time so you should be careful, especially when I am away. Don’t run around without your guards or your dog. If you make me worry for a single second I will come back and punish you."

He spoke so seriously with a slight frown on his face that told her he was worried. The difference between space pirates and deserters was that the former killed for fun while the latter killed to hide their identities. Most deserters tended to be harmless until you found out who they were. They were thieves too, because they could not find decent jobs but needed food.

"What kind of deserters?" she asked him.

"Those who signed up for the army and run away when it was time to fight various battles. One was actually a former mecha warrior that run away from the Red star leaving two families to be slaughtered by mutated beasts." he shared this and shook his head. "It’s not compulsory to serve the empire in a military capacity but once you take that oath, there is no turning back. You have entered a legal and binding contract with the ruling family and the citizens. Desertion is cowardice and a crime, the punishment is ten years in the energy mines. I cannot stand abide cowards, especially in the military. They put a dirty stain on the rest of the brave men and women that are willing to lay down their lives for the empire."

She knew how serious he took his duties of protecting the empire and she squeezed his hand as a form of comfort. There was not much she could say in the defense of the deserters. Like he said, it was not compulsory to sign up, especially for mecha warriors. You had to join up knowing the risk associated with the job. Some people were too blinded by the dream of glory and money to see the reality. By the time the veil of fame was lifted from their eyes, it was too late.

"Good job, thank you for protecting the people." she told him.

He looked at her with a cute smile, lifted their hands which were together and then he kissed her hand. "Are you going to pack supplies for me before I leave? I don’t know how I will survive up there without your cooking."
