Chapter 686: No more numbers.

When the babies settled down, Scarlet eagerly said, "Let’s continue picking baby names. If we follow family tradition then the eldest has to be B."

"The little half and half here." Fey said.

Scarlet’s mouth tilted downward and she frowned. Fey had used the exact words Chaos had used to call her baby. Her eyes trailed through the hospital room and her senses sharpened. Was he here?

Carolyn shoved Fey in the arm and told her, "Don’t call her that. It sounds like you are talking about food."

"Thank you." Scarlet said in a deep voice.

There was finally someone that shared her exact opinion. She sent Carolyn an appreciative glance. They seemed to share similar thoughts.

While Fey handed their mother baby socks and hats, she didn’t forget to defend herself. "Her hair is partially white and partially black. Half of two different colors. It’s not that deep Carolyn."

Mega who received the socks did not participate in the half and half conversation as her mind was on the naming of her grandchildren. She found it unbecoming that they had to be referred to by their order of birth. Moreover, Scarlet was about to be discharged and the hospital needed to register their birth. "I think Blackwood is regal, Blackwood Su."

"We can call her Black for short." Scarlet suggested. "Thanks mom, two down three to go."

Carolyn groaned but nobody paid her any attention. Not only were they going through with it but they both kept calling the babies Su.

"What about Dalia for the third. The only Dalia I know is a very strong grim...." Scarlet caught herself before she could finish that sentence and change her words to "Woman."

"Black, Chiwa, Dalia...." Fey repeated the names.

Carolyn sighed loudly and her lips vibrated as air was blown out of her mouth. "Fine, if you guys are going to go ahead with this madness then I might as well dive in. Enma for the fourth. I hope to the gods that it has a profound meaning."

Mega moved towards her eldest daughter and ruffled her hair. "There you go, if you can’t beat us, join us."

Fey hopped over to the birthing pod with the number five and she smiled. Then she said in a moderate voice, "Freyja for the last one. It’s so close to my name, Fey. Look at that Carolyn, I get a niece named after me and you don’t."

"Your name is not Freyja, it’s Fey." Carolyn reminded her sister.

Fey was so happy that she didn’t care. She shrugged and said, "Eh, tomato-tomatoe, it’s all the same. Both of our names have an f, an e and a y." She blew a kiss at Carolyn and said, "Eat your heart out."

Carolyn did not respond to her sister and she turned away from her and gave al of her attention to Scarlet, hoping to convince her.

"Hey, since you have successfully given my nieces those weird names, can we at least add a flowery name, like Blackwood Rose Wu, Chiwa Sunflower Wu, Dalia Daisy Wu, Enma Iris Wu and Freyja Jasmine Wu."

She squeezed herself on the bed and held on to Scarlet’s hands with a hopeful plea, batting her eyelashes cutely. "Mmm, please, please, please.."

Mega lightly hit Carolyn over the head with a pillow. "Stop it, I told you...."

"Yes, have my own kids and name them as I wish. But, mother, my sister’s children are also my children. If something happened to Scarlet I would resume custody..."

Fey’s jumped in without skipping a bit, "Hey, why do you assume that you get custody of the girls if something happens to her? I spend more time with Scarlet than anyone else. I would also be happy to step in and raise them as my own."

Carolyn had just one point to make and it was a point that would settle all guardianship talk immediately. "I am a Wu and a Su, the children get the best of both worlds with me."

One of the birthing pods turned brown.

"Someone pooped." Fey shouted in a deep voice. "Little half and...I mean Blackwood."

Mega moved without being asked to and she started changing the baby. Scarlet was glad for the assistance and she relaxed in the bed. A little yawn even escaped her mouth.

"You should sleep, we will wake you up later when it’s time to go." her mother noticed and told her.

She got the thick blanket and covered Scarlet to keep away the cold. They were deep in the winter season and the snow was falling heavily.

Scarlet looked at the window and smiled at the white snowflakes. With her reaper vision, she could see children playing outside, couples on dates, hundreds of snowmen in different parts of the city.

"A winter with people outside, how wonderful." she muttered.

Mega pressed a button on the wall and the windows were covered completely so that Scarlet could not even see the snow anymore.

"Sleep." she encouraged her daughter.

She had forgotten that her other daughters were wide awake and wanted to talk. Fey for one seemed to have a lot to say.

"But, will Esong like these names when he returns. Didn’t the two of you ever talk about what you would name your children? Sister, what exactly did you guys talk about before he left?"

Scarlet thought about the man that was avoiding her and she frowned. When asked what they talked about before he left, she couldn’t even pick out one specific thing. Even back then, they had fought for a while before reconciling.

She wondered if this was all they were going to do for eternity, fight and make up before fighting again. She thought things would be better once all secrets were revealed but that was not the case.

Is this what people meant when they said things would get worse before they got better? How long did she have to wait until the better arrived? How much more loneliness would she have to endure by herself?

She sighed and tossed twice, to the left and right before facing the ceiling. She thought about Tion and his ex-wife.

"At what point do you think people wake up and think now is the right time to divorce? What happens in a marriage that makes people think I can’t do this anymore? What do you think makes them give up completely on trying?"

She sat up and wrapped the blanket around herself closely.

"Huh!" Astonished, Fey’s jaw dropped open.

"What are you talking about?" Carolyn asked her. "It can’t be...." she trailed off, leaving her thought unfinished.

Mega stared at Scarlet with a warning in her eyes. If she dared to utter nonsense, she was in for it.

"I warned you the first time you said this nonsense about a divorce. How dare you think of bringing it up again when you just had babies for your husband. Are you crazy?"

"Mother, that’s not it." Scarlet said quickly.

She truly wasn’t asking because she wanted a divorce. It was just a random question that popped into mind when she thought about Tion.

"Call the doctor." Their mother told Fey. "That postpartum depression disease, they should come and test for it."
