While she cancelled the sleep over, her family acted as if they didn’t get the memo. They still showed up and spent the night at Scarlet’s place. It was a full house, with a mixture of humans and deities who they were used to seeing by now as Scarlet’s guests.

They brought the cheer which accompanied everyone all through the night to the following day on christmas. Initially, Scarlet planned to hold a party but that too, she cancelled. She was not exactly in a party mood.

So, Mega hosted a dinner which everyone, including the emperor and empress attended. Everyone, that was, except for Esong and only Scarlet knew why because she received flowers as usual and a long text that should probably have been an email.

Esong: I am sorry that i cannot be there for dinner at your mother’s place. I hope that you go and you have fun with the children. I am currently on the heels of the baby eating demon. It has proven difficult to hunt because it keeps running from one world to another while hiding inside of humans.

Currently, i have tracked it down to a planet called Verde, a very beautiful water world with mostly mermaids and mermen plus all sorts of sea creatures that can actually speak. I cannot believe that i used to think those workers you hired in the aquarium were humans in costumes. Justin would lose his mind with excitement if he knew that they were real.

Do you think he still wants to be a merman when he grows up?

This planet is very beautiful and the moon is blue. I have never seen anything quite beautiful like it, with your exception that is. I wish you were here to enjoy the view, but since you cannot be, i am attaching pictures.

BTW i am happy that you love the flowers, it’s not much but it’s the best i can do for now to convey how i still and will always feel about you. Please don’t worry about how i am able to procure them and simply smile when you receive them.

I am told that they also produce the best scents and perfumes which the deities love. If they become too many, try turning them into scents.

She looked at the pictures that he had sent. It was a blue moon indeed, beautiful in a way that she couldn’t describe.

Indeed, Scarlet wished she would have been there, not to be with him but to see this world with her own eyes. She added it on her list of planets to visit.

It amused her that he ended his text with ’xoxo’, something that she had taught him and it made her chuckle that he compared her beauty to the moon.

Scarlet: Justin missed you at the dinner but i told him you had been pulled away for a mission. I avoided being caught in a lie by actually exposing a truth.

I don’t know when you plan to return but i am going leave ginger cookies, eggnog, a cake and meals for at least two weeks with Grimm. When you get the chance, teleport over and pick them up.

If there are coordinates to planet Verde, i will appreciate it if you can share them with me. Someday, i will visit and see it for myself.

She wasn’t ready to add any x and o to her response so she didn’t bother with it. She was feeding him again, so that was her own way of doing something special for him. Ever since the big fight, she had not offered him as much as one spoonful of her cooked rice.

After a delicious christmas dinner, Elroy suggested a game of hockey or snow fight outside and everyone was glad to indulge him.

Scarlet didn’t participate in the games. She sat on the sides, with Lythia and Carnelia, watching over the babies in their sleeping pods while they sipped some hot apple cinnamon cider. They also watched the playfully Su’s and laughed when something funny happened.

Elroy shouted ’woooh’ and hit Beord on the head with a large ball of snow.

"You little shit." Beord said.

He started rolling an even bigger ball of snow while Elroy attempted to run away but Adler tackled him and he fell face first into the snow.

"Hey Scarlet, won’t you join us?" Carolyn called out.

Scarlet laughed and shook her head.

"Your siblings have no idea how not to be awkward around you right now. Watching them interact with you is like watching a baby learn how to walk." Lythia commented.

"Can you blame them? I have been a sobbing sad mess for a while now. If it wasn’t for Apheitos popping in every once in a while to force me into training i would be a mess." She looked at her babies and smiled. "I am so grateful for these five little angels too. If i didn’t have them, i would have wrapped myself in a blanket and slept for a good few months. In fact, i would have moved to the underworld or left the Sun star for a while."

"I shiver every time you call them angels." Carnelia said. "Call them reapers, please."

Scarlet rolled her eyes in response. What she called them didn’t matter because their nature wouldn’t be changed.

Before they could say more, the emperor and empress came out of the castle. While the emperor joined the others in their games, the empress joined the women on the dry benches that were under the snow shield.

"You are not playing Scarlet." she said as she sat down.

Scarlet shook her head. "It’s too cold and i would rather sit here with my warm drink and watch from the side lines."

She handed the empress a cup of hot apple cinnamon cider too and the other accepted it gracefully.

"I think tonight you are wearing the first genuine smile anyone has seen in a long time. I have heard that you don’t want to discuss Esong but i am compelled to at the behest of my husband. It is our hope that you two will not divorce. Our two families are much more intertwined than most and divorce will be ugly for both sides. While we plan to respect your decision, we still hope you two will mend fences."

Lythia glanced at the empress and raised her hand, seemingly displeased that their peace had been disturbed by someone that was raising a topic they had avoided touching.

Scarlet noticed Lythia’s hand and she laughed. Suddenly the empress stood up and changed decided she had changed her mind and wanted to play after all. She dashed into the snow eagerly.

"Humans with power seem to believe that their every word drips wisdom." Lythia said in displeased voice.

Scarlet didn’t respond and sipped her drink.

"You just hate all human royalty after what your husband did to you." Carnelia replied and she laughed.

"Don’t call him my husband," Lythia told her, still displeased.

"It’s a part of your history that you cannot erase, just own it. I think everyone has a terrible past lover that they would rather not have met. Scarlet has that one that fed her to zombies."

A small hound like growl escaped Scarlet’s throat.

Carnelia chuckled and she said smugly, "Like i said, bad past lover. When you meet a good one, don’t let go easily simply because of a few stones in the way."

She thought she was being slick but she wasn’t because both Scarlet and Lythia understood what she was meaning.
