In the front of the patriarch's tent, many people were gathering, trying to see what was happening inside.

Everyone's gaze shifted to Tangtang upon their arrival. They started to whisper to one another. The other sub-beasts were even pointing at Tangtang and leaving scornful remarks aloud.

Tangtang was stunned. He always heard the four fluffballs how the other sub-beasts looked at him unfavorably and scolded him behind his back, but this was the first time they did it openly.

"What are you doing here?" Gio asked as he sneered. "It is your fault that Pen was poisoned, and you have the guts to come here," he added.

Before Tangtang could process what Gio just said, a loud voice sounded beside him. "What have you said? How can it be Tangtang's fault? Is he the one who forced Pen to eat that fruit?" Qiu shouted as she went in front of Tangtang; her hands were on his waist, and her chin was up as he looked down on Gio.

Several sub-beasts came forward as well to shield Gio from Qiu.

Tei also came forward and spoke calmly. "Every time Tangtang finds edible and poisonous plants, he will tell us where we can find them and what we can do and don't when we encounter them. Tangtang never fails to remind us not to eat any unknown plants. If only you were not so arrogant and conceited, you would know this too, and you would not make Pen eat that thing and now blame Tangtang for it." Her tone was calm and mature, but her words were harsh and poisonous, stinging the sub-beasts around.

The sub-beasts can't retort to what Tei has said. They were trying to avoid Tangtang and didn't want to interact with him because of Gio and Kea's instigation, and a part of it was jealousy. Ever since Tangtang arrived in their tribe, he has become the model of the sub-beasts that they should emulate. They were unwilling and felt wronged; that's why they all agreed to Gio and Kea when they asked them to isolate Tangtang.

"If not for him flaunting last night, we will not find edible plants this morning!" one of Kea's lackeys righteously said.

The sub-beast that talked felt nothing wrong with what he said.

Last night, the news that Tangtang could make delicious foods they had never eaten before spread to the whole tribe by everyone who tasted it. He was praised and worshiped by everyone. Aside from being beautiful and kind, he was also diligent and hardworking in finding edible plants that he could cook into delicious foods. They said the sub-beasts should look up to Tangtang and be like him.

How can they have the courage to go to the forest every day? Even with the escort of the beasts, the forest is still scary and dangerous.

The praises didn't stop the whole night, making the other sub-beasts envious and resentful. They all gathered even before sunrise to plan to go to the forest, find plants, and cook them. Let's see who will praise Tangtang if everyone can do what he can do.

The group set out full of confidence with the escort of several beasts. They didn't expect that an accident would happen.

People with rationality were stunned. What kind of reason is that?

Qiu snorted. "So you were jealous and overestimated your ability. Now that something happened, you want to push the blame on others. You guys were beautiful but lacked some brains," she sarcastically said.

Qiu doesn't care how arrogant this group of sub-beasts was before because she knows that they are weak and delicate, but now, not only did they harm the brother of their friend, they even blamed Tangtang for it.

The two sides started to quarrel.

All the females are protecting Tangtang, while some of the sub-beasts are supporting Gio and Kea. The beasts wanted to stop them but were afraid to intervene in the fight between the females and sub-beasts.

Because of the heated argument between the two groups, Lia and Bei came out of the tent. "You know that I have a patient inside, and you are all making noise here."

Qiu hurriedly narrated to Lia what caused the commotion. This made the high priest angry. But before he could choose sides and join the argument, he heard Tangtang say, "Lia, can I see Pen?"

Lia agreed without a second thought. He is waiting for Tangtang. He already tried everything he knew to help Pen, but nothing worked. Tangtang is his last hope to save the young sub-beast. "Let's go inside."

Gio scoffed but didn't talk anymore. He couldn't act too arrogantly in front of the patriarch and high priest. Even Xue had been glaring at him earlier, making him unable to talk and refute Qiu's statement.

Inside, Tangtang saw a petite young boy lying on a layer of fur. His whole body was flushed red and had visible rashes. He is sweating profusely and mixed with his tears.

Pen struggles to breathe, but in an attempt to relieve the pain that occasionally makes him throw up, he is pressing on his stomach.

Seeing his brother's appearance, Yan held back his tears and immediately ran beside Pen, showing a strong front to reassure him that everything would be fine. Lia explained to Tangtang what happened based on the stories of the other people in Pen's group.

During their journey in the forest, Kea finds a new plant and plans to bring it back to the tribe, but Pen snatches it and eats the fruit, seeing it as a chance to gain recognition from the tribe.

"N—no! My brother is not that kind of person. Someone saw that you forced Pen to eat that unknown fruit!" Yan angrily said, pointing to Gio when he heard what the clan witch told Tangtang.

Gio and Kea retreated, but they still have smug looks on their faces.

Pen tried to talk, but no voice came out.

Phi and Ero were observing Pen closely. 'He doesn't seem to be poisoned,' Tangtang thought.

Ero came to him. "Yes, it is an allergic reaction," he said.

'What should we do?'

"Let's check the fruit he ate first," Phi suggested.

"The plant that Pen ate—do you still have it?" Tangtang asked in the crowd of onlookers. "It will help Pen if I can check the plant," Tangtang added.

"As if he knew everything," someone said from the crowd. Lia looked in that person's direction and angrily said, "If you know nothing, leave!"

Yan stood up and said, "I will get it for you. Tei, Qiu, come with me."

Before they could leave, Tin came out of the crowd waving a branch with fruits. "I have some here." She handed Tangtang a pear-shaped, palm-sized fruit.

The fruit is light in color, and once you open it, many wrinkly black beans are inside.

Seeing the highly nutritious label on it, Tangtang's eyes brightened. He unconsciously put a wrinkly black bean in his mouth, and a familiar savory and nutty taste spread in his mouth.

"Tangtang!" Xue shouted in shock. He immediately grabbed the fruit from Tangtang and pried open his mouth, but the sub-beast had already chewed and swallowed the bean.

Everyone had a surprise reaction after seeing the bold action of the sub-beast.

"I'm okay. It's not poisonous," Tangtang explained when he saw how worried the man was.

Xue believed in Tangtang, but he couldn't help but worry because Pen was still lying there after eating the same fruit.

Tangtang was overjoyed to find nuts, but as soon as he saw a blue screen pop out, his excitement instantly faded.

[Side Quest: Save Pen

Time limit: 20 minutes

Reward: 300 points

Failure: Pen will die.

(Cause of death: Anaphylactic shock.)]

Not only Tangtang but also the two guardians were surprised because of the high reward of the quest.

'Anaphylactic shock!?'

Then, a timer appeared in front of him.

"If he is not poisoned, what happened to him?" Lia heaved a sigh and curiously asked.

"I will explain later. Let's save Pen first, or we may lose him." He said the last part in a whisper, but it was enough for the beasts with heightened senses to hear.

'How can I save Pen?' Tangtang worriedly asked Phi and Ero.

On Earth, if people have allergies, they will go to the hospital or take antihistamines. He was familiar with this medicine because one of his acquaintances had an airborne allergy, so he needed to take this medication from time to time.

But where will he find antihistamines in this world? There's no hospital or pharmacy here.

"There are plants that have natural antihistamines," Phi said.

Tangtang suddenly remembered he had seen these properties on one of the plants he found. Unfortunately, he didn't remember which plant it was.

"Yan talked to Pen. Don't let him fall asleep."

"Xue, can you bring me all the plants we gathered today?"

"Tei, Qiu, can you get me the pot at my tent and fill it with water? The colder the better."

Tangtang gives orders as he checks all the plants he found so far. It's a good thing that the plants consumed were replenished.

After a minute, he found what he needed.

An arm-length rhizome of ginger.

"Xue, boil this. Put two cups of water and half of the root," he ordered.

Without asking any questions, everyone moves fast.

Suddenly, Yan's frantic voice can be heard, "Pen! Pen! Don't close your eyes."

Tangtang rushed to their side and checked Pen's breathing and pulse. The young sub-beast is wheezing, a sign that he has trouble breathing, and his pulse is getting weaker and faster.

"Here's the water," Tei said, carrying a large pot of water with Qiu.

Tangtang takes a ripe lume fruit and puts its nectar in a bowl of water. He heard from his grandmother that vinegar can lessen the itchiness of rashes.

"I will wash Pen's body," Tangtang simply said.

Lia understood it and immediately ordered everyone to get out. Only he, Tangtang, and Yan were left.

With Lia's help, they continue washing Pen, while Yan makes sure that he will not fall asleep.

'Damn it!' Tangtang wants to curse out loud. The timer is making him panic, especially since it is a countdown to someone's life and death.

He doesn't care about the side quest anymore. All he wants is to save Pen. The two of them were not close, but he was still the younger brother of his friend.

The two guardians wanted to calm Tangtang, but they didn't know what to say because even the two of them didn't know what would happen to the young sub-beast.

"If only the shop was open," Phi murmured, but it was still clearly heard by Tangtang through telepathy.

Tangtang continued wiping Pen's body without saying anything.

"Tangtang, the ginger is ready," Xue called out outside the tent.

Tangtang hurriedly went out and took the bowl of ginger soup.

"It's hot," Xue reminded him, but he didn't have time to care about it.

Tangtang asked Lia and Yan to help Pen sit up as he fed the young sub-beast a warmed ginger soup using a spoon.

"Pen, please drink all of this." Tangtang kept on repeating. He knew that because Pen's throat was swollen, it was painful for him to swallow, but time was running out, and it wouldn't wait for anyone.

Pen finished the ginger soup, but the timer was still running, causing Tangtang to panic. He doesn't know anything about medicine, and he doesn't know if what he has done is correct or not. All he can do now is pray that the ginger will help lessen Pen's allergic reaction.

After laying Pen back down, Yan asked. "What should we do next?"

Tangtang looked worriedly at them and said, "We just need to wait and pray that the medicine will take effect faster."

The tears Yan had been holding back since earlier started streaming down his face again.
