Transmigration; Married to My Ex-Fiancé's Uncle-Chapter 120; Getting revenge for her (a)
He paused, letting his expression show the weight of realization, the burden of knowledge that couldn’t be ignored. "I started digging deeper. Hired forensic accountants to review everything. And the more they uncovered, the worse it got. Within weeks, I was certain something was fundamentally wrong with her conviction. But proving it, gathering enough evidence to actually overturn a verdict, that takes time. Resources. Absolute certainty that you’re right."
"And now?" the reporter prompted right on cue, following the script they’d arranged.
"Now I have that certainty. The evidence is incontrovertible. Shuyin was innocent. And I will spend however long it takes, use whatever resources are necessary, to ensure that everyone responsible for this miscarriage of justice faces consequences."
More questions erupted in a wave of sound, and Wang Jing’s voice came through his earpiece again: "Section five, row three, another plant."
Lu Zeyan pointed to a young man with trendy glasses who looked almost too eager. "You, in the back."
"Miss Shuyin, this question is for you. How do you feel about being free? What are your plans now?"
Another softball, perfectly designed to let Shuyin showcase her grace and forward-looking attitude, her ability to move beyond trauma toward hope.
"How do I feel?" Shuyin repeated softly, as though she were genuinely considering the question for the first time.
"Grateful. Overwhelmed. Still processing, honestly. I spent weeks believing I would spend a lifetime in that prison. That I’d never see sunlight without bars, never walk freely, never have a chance to rebuild my life. So being here, being free, it doesn’t feel real yet."
She smiled slightly, and it looked almost shy, vulnerable in a way that made her seem approachable despite her striking appearance. "As for plans... I’m taking it one day at a time. Lu Zeyan has been incredibly generous in helping me get back on my feet. He’s provided me with housing, financial support to rebuild my life. And I’m grateful for that. Beyond that..." She shrugged delicately. "I want to live. Just... live. Like a normal person. Maybe that’s not exciting enough for a news story, but it’s all I want right now. To be with the man I love and build a future together."
"What about your career?" someone shouted from the back, a question that hadn’t been planted. "Will you return to tech?"
Shuyin paused, appearing to consider carefully. "Maybe eventually. But even in just weeks, things can change so much. I need time to catch up, to learn what I’ve missed. For now, I’m just focused on healing and on my relationship with Lu Zeyan."
"Mr. Lu!" Another reporter, this one definitely not planted, was a woman from an investigative journalism outlet known for taking down corrupt officials and exposing corporate malfeasance. "You say you’ve been investigating since the conviction, but you’re only coming forward now. What prompted the timing? And what exactly is the current status of your engagement?"
Wang Jing’s voice crackled urgently in his ear: "Careful here. Keep it focused on the investigation, deflect from specific relationship details."
"The timing is based on when we had sufficient evidence to move forward publicly," Lu Zeyan said firmly, his voice taking on an edge of defensive strength. "My investigation was ongoing regardless of any other considerations. As for our engagement, as Shuyin mentioned, we’re still committed to each other. We’re working through the trauma of what happened, rebuilding trust, taking things at a pace that feels right for both of us. We haven’t set specific dates or made concrete plans yet because we’re focused on getting justice first."
"But surely....." the reporter started, but before she could finish her question, a commotion erupted at the back of the room.
Someone was shouting, voices raised in alarm, and Lu Zeyan saw one of the cameramen frantically gesturing to his producer, pointing at something on his phone screen.
Within seconds, the disruption spread through the room like wildfire, reporters pulling out their phones, exclamations of shock and excitement rippling through the crowd in visible waves.
"What’s happening?" Lu Zeyan demanded, looking to Wang Jing in the wings, but she was staring at her own phone with an expression of absolute horror.
Then the large screen behind them, which had been displaying the press conference logo, suddenly flickered and changed.
Someone had hijacked the display, and now a photograph filled the enormous screen, visible to everyone in the room and everyone watching the livestream.
Lin Yueling, Shuyin’s half sister, stood in the image wearing a form-fitting dress that showcased an unmistakably large pregnant belly.
The photo was recent, clearly taken within the last few days based on her appearance and the visible background.
But what made the image damning wasn’t just that she was pregnant, it was the size of her belly, the undeniable evidence that she was at least five or six months along, possibly more and the most condemning thing was Lu Zeyan’s image just beside her.
The math was instant and brutal. If Yueling was this far into her pregnancy now, she would have been several months pregnant even before Shuyin’s trial began. Before the imprisonment. Before any of the supposed timelines that Lu Zeyan had been carefully constructing.
She would have been pregnant while Lu Zeyan was still engaged to Shuyin. While he was living with Shuyin. While he was planning a wedding with Shuyin.
The affair hadn’t started after Shuyin’s conviction, during some moment of emotional vulnerability and poor judgment.
It had been going on for months before, hidden and deliberate, a calculated betrayal that predated all of Lu Zeyan’s claims of being deceived by false evidence.
The room exploded into absolute chaos. Reporters were shouting questions, cameras were flashing with renewed frenzy, and the energy in the space shifted from sympathetic interest to hostile accusation in the space of a single heartbeat.
"Mr. Lu, you were having an affair with Lin Yueling before Shuyin was even arrested?"
"Did you frame your fiancée to be with her sister?"
"How long has the affair been going on?"
