Transmigration:The Villain Wants A Happy End Without His BeastHusbands-Chapter 25: Just Wait
"Are you sure it’s a good idea for me to return to class today?" Su Ningyan asked as he placed his palms on the floor and kicked himself into a handstand.
He focused on balance. On breathing. On not thinking.
Up. Down.
Steady.
Yan Wuhen watched him from the table, a golden cup resting loosely in his hand, his expression one of idle curiosity.
"There is a high probability you’ll be summoned the moment you’re sighted," he said calmly. "The headmaster will want to see you before you attend class." 𝕗𝗿𝕖𝐞𝐰𝗲𝕓𝐧𝕠𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝐨𝚖
"Am I going to get expelled?" Ningyan scoffed. "Maybe that’ll finally make you break the spirit mate chain."
He held the handstand perfectly this time. When he dropped back onto his feet, he laughed, breathless and pleased with himself.
Wuhen’s lips curled faintly. "I’ve already spoken to the headmaster. He’s aware that you’re under my protection. This meeting is merely for appearances."
Ningyan frowned and strode toward him. "So you bribed him?"
"No," Wuhen replied casually, lifting the cup to his lips. "I threatened him with war. Dragons prefer not to test fox patience."
Ningyan stared at him for a moment, then exhaled slowly.
Somehow, disturbingly, he was starting to get used to Yan Wuhen.
Running was pointless. Fighting was pointless. And as long as the spirit mate chain existed, escape was a fantasy. If he was stuck, then fine he would tolerate one male lead. Just one.
"...So you always threaten people with war?" Ningyan asked.
Wuhen reached out suddenly.
Ningyan dodged on instinct, jumping back with surprising speed. He blinked then laughed, triumphant and a little shocked at himself.
Wuhen chuckled. "Are you going or not?"
Ningyan hesitated. "Is Mingze dead?"
"Unfortunately, no." Something sharp flickered in Wuhen’s eyes. "He won’t be present today, though. Do you want me to take care of him for you?"
Ningyan’s eyes widened. "You mean... kill him?"
Wuhen nodded.
Ningyan pressed his lips together, thinking.
If Wuhen killed Mingze, it would be another major deviation from the plot.
"I..."
"Brother Wuhen?" A familiar voice came from the chamber doorway.
Ningyan turned to see Tu Lanyin standing there, looking as ethereal as ever, her soft bunny ears twitching faintly as she smiled.
"Lanyin? Is something wrong?" Wuhen asked, his tone gentle with curiosity.
Tu Lanyin stepped into the chamber, her movements light and graceful.
Ningyan lifted a hand in greeting. She returned it with a small bow before stopping in front of Wuhen.
"Qinghe said His Majesty wishes for you to handle the crisis in Sunland City," she reported politely. "One of the clan leaders was killed by unknown forces. The situation has caused considerable chaos."
Yan Wuhen grimaced, pressing his palm to the side of his face. "Why can’t Qinghe handle it?"
Tu Lanyin smiled, a little sheepishly. "She said she has an important lecture from her teacher."
Wuhen scoffed. "Well, I also have important lectures from my teacher."
He turned toward Ningyan. "Lanyin, escort him to the headmaster. I’ll go see my sister."
With that, he rose to his feet and strode past them, leaving the chamber without another glance.
Su Ningyan chuckled softly.
So... Wuhen could be petty.
But a clan leader being killed?
That wasn’t in the novel.
Have I completely scattered the plot into an entirely new direction? he wondered, pressing his palm to his chin in thought.
"You seem much more comfortable around Brother Wuhen now," Tu Lanyin remarked suddenly.
Ningyan blinked and looked at her.
He almost said far too much.
Instead, he smiled and gestured vaguely toward his neck. "Well... I don’t really have a choice."
Tu Lanyin laughed quietly. "Let me tell you a secret."
She leaned closer, beckoning him forward. Ningyan hesitated, then bent slightly so she could whisper into his ear.
"You have more control than he does," she murmured. "You simply don’t know how to use it yet."
Ningyan’s eyes widened. "How do I learn?"
Tu Lanyin stepped back, her expression calm and knowing. "It comes naturally. Just wait."
His eye twitched. "Why can’t you just tell me?"
She only smiled, already turning away. "Come on. Let’s go see the headmaster."
Ningyan sighed in defeat and followed her out of the manor, heading once more toward the familiar building where he had first met Headmaster Fang Lingbo.
The headmaster was seated behind his desk, glowing scrolls hovering in the air before him. Guards stood motionless at the edges of the hall.
The moment Ningyan and Tu Lanyin entered, Fang Lingbo’s attention tore away from the scrolls.
They bowed deeply.
Fang Lingbo let the scroll in his hand drop.
"I have been expecting you," he said calmly, his gaze settling on Su Ningyan. "Ever since I received an... inappropriate visit from Yan Wuhen."
Ningyan lifted his head slightly and laughed nervously. "I—um... are you going to give me extra punishment?"
"No," Fang Lingbo replied. "I heard from Rong Chen that you have already been punished severely."
Ningyan stiffened.
"So I will leave you with only a warning," Fang Lingbo continued coolly. "Break the rules of the Celestial Beast Academy again, and you will be expelled."
Ningyan nearly rolled his eyes but he bowed even lower.
"I promise I won’t break any rules again," he said quickly.
Even though I don’t know the rules, he added silently.
"Good. Leave." Fang Lingbo’s gaze narrowed. "You are fortunate to be under a divine beast prince. Though I do not understand why a coreless phoenix is so close to him."
Ningyan’s breath caught.
His fingers curled unconsciously at his collar as a cold awareness crept up his spine.
Can he see it?
The spirit-mate chain felt suddenly too tight around his neck, too exposed.
Ningyan didn’t want to find out.
He bowed once more and quickly exited with Tu Lanyin.
But the moment his foot crossed the threshold, an emerald-green portal burst open beneath him.
"Ningyan—!" Tu Lanyin reached out, fingers grazing empty air.
Ningyan fell.
The portal snapped shut.
Tu Lanyin stood frozen in shock. "Oh no... Ningyan!"
