Transmigration:The Villain Wants A Happy End Without His BeastHusbands-Chapter 46: Bad Terms
When Ningyan woke, his body felt sore but not nearly as painful as before.
What is going on?
Just as he was about to open his eyes, voices reached him.
"What do you mean someone is trying to kill him?" Yan Wuhen’s voice cut through the air, sharp with barely restrained fury.
"He was shot in the back," Rong Yue replied coolly. "You saw the wound yourself. Besides, an attempt happened right in front of me."
"He poisoned as well," another voice added. A calm, low, controlled voice. "It explains the paleness, the cold sweat. The vomiting."
A warm hand pressed gently against Ningyan’s forehead.
His heart skipped.
Lan Meishan.
"Is he cured?" another voice asked.
That one made Ningyan open his eyes immediately.
His vision cleared slowly and then froze.
All four of them were there.
Rong Yue stood near the doorway, arms folded, expression stern but eyes sharp with interest.
Yan Wuhen sat lazily against a pile of cushions, nine fox tails fanned out behind him, drifting slowly through the air as smoke curled from the pipe between his lips.
Jun Haoxuan stood beside the bed, posture straight, gaze unreadable.
Lan Meishan sat closest, right on the edge of the bed, one hand still resting against Ningyan’s forehead, the other holding a small medicinal pouch.
They were all looking at him.
Ningyan wanted to scream. He’d spent so long avoiding this. And now, one assassination attempt later, he was trapped in a room with every male lead.
Lan Meishan smiled softly. "You’re awake."
The others moved at once.
Yan Wuhen was faster.
He climbed onto the bed and wrapped an arm around Ningyan, pulling him close before he could react. Ningyan stiffened as Wuhen buried his face against his neck, inhaling deeply.
"Oh, my beloved," he murmured hoarsely. "I’m sorry. I should have been there."
Lan Meishan’s expression darkened as he stood. "You shouldn’t hold him like that. You’ll reopen the wound."
Yan Wuhen ignored him completely, nuzzling closer, breathing Ningyan in like he was afraid he’d disappear.
Jun Haoxuan simply watched.
Rong Yue snorted softly and rolled his eyes.
"I apologize that this happened in my manor," Jun Haoxuan said at last, his voice measured. "You should not have been placed in danger."
Ningyan stopped trying to push Wuhen away. His body hurt too much.
"Was I really poisoned?!" he asked, panic flashing across his face.
"Yes," Lan Meishan replied calmly. "By a venom, most likely. It may have been mixed into your wine or food."
"I ate and drank too," Yan Wuhen said lazily, teeth grazing Ningyan’s neck as his ears twitched. "And I wasn’t poisoned."
Ningyan immediately pressed a hand against Wuhen’s shoulder. "Get off me."
Yan Wuhen didn’t move.
"Then perhaps you were specifically targeted," Rong Yue said, his eyes narrowing in thought. "Just you."
Ningyan frowned deeply. "Why would someone want to kill me? They shot me with an arrow." His teeth clenched as the memory resurfaced.
Silence fell.
Even Yan Wuhen stopped his teasing. He straightened, finally releasing Ningyan and sitting upright.
Ningyan looked between them, unsettled.
Then Lan Meishan spoke. "I’ll return to my chamber."
He gave Ningyan a soft, lingering look. "Rest well, Ningyan."
Ningyan managed a small smile. And just like that, Lan Meishan left.
Jun Haoxuan exhaled slowly. "What if the poison and the arrows came from two different beasts?"
"I’d rather not rely on assumptions," Ningyan replied flatly. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦
"That’s understandable," Jun Haoxuan said. "But this happened in my manor. That makes it my responsibility."
Ningyan shook his head. "I appreciate it. Truly. But I’ll handle whatever comes my way myself."
Jun Haoxuan studied him for a long moment. "Are we on bad terms, Su Ningyan?"
Ningyan pushed himself off the bed. His body still ached, but he could stand and that was enough.
"No," he said evenly. "I don’t think we are."
Jun Haoxuan’s gaze traveled over him, assessing. His lips twitched once more before he finally looked away.
Rong Yue and Yan Wuhen exchanged a brief glance.
"I was the one who pulled him back from death," Rong Yue said mildly. "I should handle this."
Ningyan turned to him at once. "I don’t need your help either."
Rong Yue arched a brow. "Even though I carried you while you were bleeding and vomiting?"
Ningyan nodded. "I’m grateful. Truly. But I won’t put you in that position again."
Rong Yue chuckled. "If you say so."
Jun Haoxuan turned sharply. "Why are you still in my manor? I thought you left."
"I snuck in," Rong Yue replied casually. "I’ll be leaving now."
And with that, he did.
Yan Wuhen chuckled softly and placed a hand over Ningyan’s forehead.
Ningyan watched him closely.
After a moment, Yan Wuhen nodded and withdrew his hand. "We will stay here for the night," he said calmly.
"I don’t think that’s—"
"Yes, you two can stay for the night," Jun Haoxuan interrupted.
Ningyan turned to him at once.
Jun Haoxuan met his gaze briefly before looking away. "The servants will prepare a more appropriate chamber for you both."
And with that, he left the room, leaving only Ningyan and Yan Wuhen behind.
Ningyan exhaled sharply and turned back to Wuhen. "Do you know what’s going on?"
Yan Wuhen nodded slowly. "I have an idea."
He shifted closer and rested his head on Ningyan’s lap.
Normally, Ningyan would have pushed him away but he was too exhausted. He only looked down at him, their eyes meeting.
"And?" he asked quietly.
"The poison was meant for me."
Ningyan’s eyes widened. "How do you—"
"That wine you drank," Wuhen interrupted softly. "You took it from me."
Ningyan froze.
He remembered it clearly now. The second jar of wine. Yan Wuyin trying to stop him.
"Is it Wuyin?" Ningyan asked.
Yan Wuhen opened his eyes, a thoughtful expression on his face. After a moment, he closed them again. "Maybe."
Ningyan’s brow furrowed.
If the poison was meant for Wuhen...
Then the arrows.....
Ningyan stared into the dim light of the chamber, unease curling tightly in his chest.
What in the heavens is going on?
