Transmigration:The Villain Wants A Happy End Without His BeastHusbands-Chapter 53: Someone Like You Shouldn’t Exist
Ningyan had never imagined that he would one day see the usually jovial, chaotic Wuhen looking so solemn... so quietly broken as he watched over his sister.
For a long while, Ningyan stood there, saying nothing. There was nothing to say. No comforting words, no silver lining to cling to. This wasn’t something he could fix or predict.
He was simply living, just like everyone else in this world, reacting to events he couldn’t control.
Eventually, he decided to leave the siblings alone.
The manor was vast, far larger than the academy residences. It wasn’t just a place to stay. It was a living space, a true clan manor where generations had lived and died.
As he wandered, he found himself in the courtyard.
Snow drifted quietly from the night sky, blanketing the ground in a calm, almost deceptive serenity.
Tu Lanyin stood there, leaning against a wooden railing, staring upward. Her white bunny ears twitched faintly at the cold.
Ningyan hesitated, then moved to stand beside her.
She turned immediately, silver eyes dull. "How is Brother Wuhen?" she asked.
"He’s with Qinghe," Ningyan replied.
Lanyin nodded slowly and looked back at the sky.
Ningyan studied her carefully. He remembered Lan Meishan mentioning that Tu Lanyin was Qinghe’s lover. It made sense. The twins did seem to have a fondness for white-haired, gentle-looking beasts.
"Can you explain what happened?" he asked quietly.
Lanyin inhaled deeply, her breath visible in the cold air.
"We thought it was something we could handle," she said. "We suspected rogue beasts killed Clan Lord Yu Feixue, and even if something went wrong... Wuhen’s protection talisman should have kept negative energy away."
Her fingers curled against the railing.
"But when we saw those corrupted veins in his head," she continued, voice tightening, "we knew it wasn’t something small."
"Qinghe did say the report mentioned an ’unknown force,’" Ningyan murmured.
Lanyin forced a weak smile. "Yes. An unknown force."
She swallowed. "We searched the woods where Clan Lord Yu Feixue was last seen. Took guards with us. Three days with no clues. Nothing." Her voice trembled. "So we decided to split up."
Her expression crumpled.
"I shouldn’t have agreed," she sobbed. "I should have stayed with her. I should have protected her..."
Ningyan’s heart felt unbearably heavy. Without thinking, he pulled Lanyin into an embrace.
She returned it instantly, clutching him tightly as her body wracked with sobs.
Ningyan rubbed her back in slow, gentle circles, hoping it would be enough to soothe her.
"If I had gone with her," Lanyin cried, her voice breaking, "she wouldn’t have disappeared. She... she went missing for another three days. When we finally found her, she was unconscious... high up in the mountains."
Her grip tightened.
"The guards who went with her were never found. And the corruption..." Lanyin paused, lifting her head. Tears filled her silver eyes, grief and terror swirling within them. "I’ve never seen anything like it. It was dark. Almost..."
"Demonic," Ningyan finished quietly, his eyes widening as the word left his mouth.
Lanyin froze, staring at him in shock.
Ningyan released her, and she instinctively took a step back, studying his face as if seeing him clearly for the first time.
"How do you...?"
Ningyan exhaled heavily, his breath fogging in the winter air. "It’s just a feeling," he admitted, running his fingers through his hair and ruffling it further.
This wasn’t the book anymore.
If Ningyan wasn’t the villain, then someone else was. And whoever it was, they were wielding demonic qi more sharper, more insidious than anything he remembered.
He was certain of it. This was Lan Yunlai’s work.
The problem was, he couldn’t simply shout it to the world. He couldn’t accuse Lan Yunlai of planning to slaughter innocents and enslave the Three Realms without proof.
"I have to stop Wuhen from going out there," Ningyan said firmly. "We need to focus on removing the corruption from Qinghe and not let Wuhen become the next victim." 𝑓𝑟𝑒𝘦𝓌𝑒𝑏𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝘭.𝒸𝘰𝑚
Lanyin sniffed, wiping the tears from her cheeks.
"You seem different," she said suddenly.
Ningyan blinked. "Good different or bad different?"
That earned a small smile from her, though it quickly turned thoughtful. "Your presence," she said slowly. "It’s... stable. Grounded."
Ningyan couldn’t stop the smile that spread across his lips. "I fixed my core," he said. "I’m cultivating."
Lanyin stared at him, stunned. "How... How is that even possible? I thought that couldn’t be done."
Ningyan sighed and leaned against the railing. "I had a lot of help from—"
His eyes widened abruptly.
"How about we call in a healer from the Abyss Serpent Clan?" he said quickly. "Lan Meishan might be able to remove the corruption."
Lanyin nodded at once. "Yes. I’ll speak to Brother Wuhen. Though you know him, he’ll still want to investigate what’s happening. To stop it from happening again." Her voice hardened. "And for revenge. Mostly for Qinghe."
Ningyan’s shoulders slumped. "Then I’ll go with him."
Lanyin turned sharply, giving him a hard look. "I don’t think that’s a good idea."
"What if he goes too far and I end up dying because of the spirit mate chain?" Ningyan muttered, lips pursed. "I think he’s forgotten about it entirely with everything that’s happening."
Lanyin stared at him for a long moment. Too long.
Then she walked closer.
She raised one hand. A deep, blinding white glow gathered in her palm, compressing inward with terrifying force.
Ningyan’s instincts screamed.
Before she could strike, his body flared with a translucent white-gold light. He leapt back, vaulting over the wooden railing into the courtyard below. His eyes gleamed the same color. Violet completely erased.
Lanyin didn’t lower her hand.
Ningyan stared at her in disbelief. "What are you—"
She fired.
The blast slammed into him mid-air, catching him off guard and sending him flying across the courtyard. Just before he hit the ground, something answered within him.
With a violent surge of qi, a pair of translucent white-gold wings burst from his back.
They flapped once. Powerfully.
Ningyan landed on his feet, skidding across the stone, heart pounding.
He barely had time to process it before Lanyin vaulted over the railing with effortless grace. She landed lightly, arms spreading as white light coiled around her palms. Her bunny ears stood upright, silver eyes blazing.
"Impressive," she said coolly. "Your qi doesn’t behave like that of a newly awakened beast."
Her gaze sharpened, predatory.
"Someone like you," she continued, "shouldn’t exist."
