Traveler of the River of Time and Space-Chapter 429 - 40: Giant King Yum
A faint smell of sulfur wafted through the air.
After walking for a while, the area ahead opened up considerably, revealing piles of charred corpses forming mounds before their eyes.
"There must be several thousand people here," Su Ziyu remarked, looking at the heap of bodies and picking up a pure gold goblet.
Everything before them gleamed with gold.
Roughly estimating, just the gold and silver here weighed several tons. Unfortunately, his personal space already contained plenty of gold, so taking more would be useless. The gold and silver treasure in the City of Sin exceeded that of any other place; one could stumble upon it by accident while walking, but regrettably, they were just ordinary gold and silver articles, with no curious artifacts among them.
After a while, those disgusting creatures crawling on the ground appeared in sight once more.
These giants seemed to have their heads chopped off, with two arms reattached at the neck. Their massive bodies were aggressively coming at them, with the viscous liquid dripping from their eyes seemingly toxic, prompting the group to avoid them as much as possible.
— "Dung Blocks (Curious Artifact): Toxic dung blocks that can be thrown at enemies, rumored to be found on some giants."
Each giant could drop two to three of these toxic dung blocks.
In just about ten minutes, Su Ziyu collected quite a few, but, unfortunately, this curious artifact was indeed somewhat unusable.
Just as they continued forward, a flicker of flame seemed to appear ahead.
In the next instant,
a massive shadow descended from the sky, its enormous wings obscuring the road. It held a spear that burned like a torch in its hands, yet on closer inspection, it was a statue previously discovered. Unbeknownst to them, it had come to life, transforming into a formidable gargoyle.
Clang! Clang! Clang!
A burst of flame appeared.
The three reacted quickly, almost simultaneously striking, yet this enemy was truly tough-skinned. Blades and swords clashed against it, sparking bright with energy, only leaving a few scratches on the gargoyle's surface.
A gust approached swiftly!
The gargoyle swung its massive torch-spear in a sweeping motion, then spread its wings and spiraled into the sky, quickly raising its weapon and bringing it down forcefully.
Su Ziyu and Nun Fried dodged simultaneously, while the Onion Knight raised his great sword to parry the attack.
"Uh!"
"Such power!..." the Onion Knight retreated half a step, commenting.
Clang.
Su Ziyu struck forward fiercely with the Dragon-Hunting Spear, and the gargoyle's wings curled instantly to shield itself as a defense, underestimating the spear's sharpness, causing a crack to appear on its hardened wings.
Nun Fried's figure suddenly vanished, reappearing behind the enemy. The massive scythe swung down with a gleam of cold light, slicing through and removing a large portion of the gargoyle's head.
Its nearly four-meter-tall body twitched briefly, then slowly collapsed, turning into rubble.
"A creation of ancient magic."
Nun Fried casually picked up a wisp of soul, tossing it over, saying, "There might be more than one here."
"Watch out!" Su Ziyu suddenly shouted.
Not far away.
A ball of flame suddenly shot towards them, revealing a fleeting white shape in the corner. Nun Fried reacted swiftly, rolling directly to Su Ziyu's side, while the Onion Knight took out his hefty shield.
Another flaming ball came their way.
This time, they finally saw the enemy's appearance; it was three eerie women in white, holding small lanterns emitting an ominous glow.
"Who are these people?" Su Ziyu furrowed his brow, somewhat inclined to converse with them.
Uncertain if they were normal humans, possibly able to converse.
The three white-clad women floated lightly as they walked, with strange silver and gold masks adorning their faces, akin to the masks worn by leper kings in movies, with faint light emanating from the pupils' position. They silently approached, their tattered white robes fluttering slightly. As the distance closed, they suddenly accelerated, sharply stabbing forward with a ritual dagger in their right hand.
"The City of Sin has long lost any normal living people," Nun Fried said, launching forward, wielding her massive scythe and lashing out at one maid's head.
Sparks flew.
The swinging white hood followed, and the head of a maid was directly severed by Nun Fried, the eerie silver mask falling away, revealing a face that had been burned beyond recognition to Su Ziyu.
They were entirely zombified long ago.
The death of their companion did not instill fear in these white-clad maids. They swiftly approached, frantically attacking with their daggers. After emitting a strange sound, they could summon a ball of burning flame, seemingly from the lanterns they held, yet those were merely ordinary items, the only unique aspect being the unextinguished flame within.
The battle didn't last long.
The three quickly took care of these maids, with Su Ziyu checking each removed metal mask to confirm none were ordinary living people.
They had all been burned before.
But for some reason, they were not reduced to the charred corpses outside.
"We should be close now," the Onion Knight spoke gravely, continuing, "These are the maids serving the Fire of Sin..."
