Treasure Hunt: Tycoon's Priceless Runaway Wife-Chapter 61: Were Any Remedial Measures Taken?
Chapter 61: Chapter 61: Were Any Remedial Measures Taken?
After finishing breakfast, the three, refreshed after a day’s rest, divided the work and dove back into their busy tasks.
Ji Rui and Yang Sheng sat side by side at the desk, while Le Tong sat across from them, helping pull up various documents and organize them upon their request, sometimes serving them hot tea or coffee.
During a short break, Le Tong went out and returned with a bag of cookies, tearing open the bag and chomping on one noisily.
"Hungry?" Yang Sheng reached over, grabbed a piece from the bag, and tossed it into his mouth.
"Yeah, my appetite’s been great lately, easily hungry."
Actually, it’s because her porridge got taken, and how long can one baked sweet potato last?
Yang Sheng chewed on the cookie, grinning at her, "Heard pregnant women eat a lot. Little sis, you’re not..."
Yang Sheng knew Le Tong didn’t have a boyfriend; making such a joke was purely that—a joke.
But this joke gave Ji Rui, buried in documents, a jolt. He abruptly looked up, staring hard at Le Tong.
Le Tong was busy joking with Yang Sheng and didn’t notice Ji Rui’s unusual behavior.
"If you keep teasing, I’ll eat you up!"
She raised her hands, baring her teeth at Yang Sheng with a menacing look.
Ji Rui glanced at Le Tong thoughtfully a few times. Some words, even for him, were hard to say aloud, so he took out his phone and texted Le Tong.
Le Tong thought it was from Luo Yuanyuan, but when she checked, it was actually from President Ji sitting right across from her.
"Did you take any precautions that night?"
Le Tong lowered her head, a touch of sarcasm in her eyes. So President Ji was still worried she’d use that night as leverage?
Enough already!
If it wasn’t for the hefty salary from the Ji Family, she wouldn’t bother facing a man who, like a wolf, bullies a rabbit and then constantly worries the rabbit might extort him!
She held no fantasies about love, nor about men.
Ji Rui might have great qualifications in every aspect, but she never coveted him.
On this, she could swear to the heavens: she never had any thoughts about him.
Besides, if she really wanted a boyfriend or husband, she’d aim for someone like Yang Sheng who is perceptive and amusing, not cold, indifferent, and boring like Ji Rui.
And the thought of using a child as a bargaining chip to secure a man like Ji Rui was both disgusting and pathetic.
Le Tong quickly swiped the screen and replied with a few words.
"Relax, I’m afraid of pain!"
Ji Rui glanced at his phone, and Yang Sheng, seeing both of them with their phones, teased them.
"Hey, are you two flirting right in front of me? If so, just say it; I’ll step out for a bit!"
Ji Rui ignored him, continuing to idly play with the phone in his hand.
Yang Sheng, of course, was also joking. He couldn’t possibly imagine that the two seemingly unrelated people before him had done things far more intense and intimate than flirting via text.
"Bro, what’s done in front of you isn’t called sneaking around, it’s openly flirting. But bro, did you take your meds today? No way do the CEO and I look like a match, right?"
Le Tong spoke confidently, as if she and Ji Rui truly had nothing.
And actually, she believed they had nothing.
She didn’t remember anything about that night. If not for Ji Rui’s message, she’d have forgotten all about it.
"You sure?"
Ji Rui seemed distrustful, messaging again.
Le Tong hesitated, realizing there was no point in continuing this, so she plucked up her courage and sent a straightforward reply.
"Are you sure? Why not let a doctor check it out?"
After that event, her period had come right on schedule twice; letting him get her checked should ease his mind completely.
"Alright!" Ji Rui replied almost instantly.
The little bit of goodwill Le Tong had left towards Ji Rui quickly evaporated.
In the afternoon, Ji Rui mentioned having plans tonight, no overtime needed. Yang Sheng happily packed his things and left on time.
Ji Rui calculated Yang Sheng’s departure time, grabbed his bag, and knocked on Le Tong’s desk as he left the office.
"Let’s go."
"President, give me the address and I’ll take a cab there myself." Le Tong did this partly to avoid suspicion, partly out of a reluctance to face the unscrupulous Ji Rui.
"I’m driving." Ji Rui was even less willing for others to know about this, having already sent the driver Xiao Li home early.
"But..." Le Tong started to say, but Ji Rui interrupted, "You’re backing out?"
Anger flared in Le Tong, and whatever goodwill she had accumulated over the period for Ji Rui plummeted into negative territory.
She stood up abruptly and headed straight for the elevator, with Ji Rui following closely behind.
The elevator went straight down to the negative first floor, and the two walked in silence like strangers towards the car. Ji Rui got into the driver’s seat, while she opened the back door.
This whole ordeal today left Le Tong utterly cold towards Ji Rui. Perhaps in President Ji’s eyes, everyone is inferior; anyone associated with him must have ulterior motives.
If she could, she wouldn’t want to be confined in the same space with such a person.
Sitting in the driver’s seat, Ji Rui focused on driving without attempting to converse, and Le Tong, seething, likewise refused to interact. So, during the nearly half-hour drive to their destination, neither spoke a word.
Ji Rui took Le Tong to a private clinic, where a doctor in his thirties greeted them, around Ji Rui’s age.
"Rui, the equipment is ready. Let her in."
Le Tong stood aside, watching the two men skip introductions, using simply "her" to refer to her, making her feel cold as her chilling heart sank further.
Perhaps President Ji had brought countless women for check-ups, making names unnecessary for him and the doctor.
Because, in their eyes, among this whole bunch, A and B, B and C, C and D, are merely interchangeable women for President Ji to unleash upon, without any difference.
And she was just any one of the ABCDE orbiting around Ji Rui, her name truly, unimportant!
