Treatise Of A Failed Knight-Chapter 249: Final Battle Preparations
The War Council is in session.
All the members, myself included, have gathered once again to discuss our final attack on the enemy—that is, the Southern Kingdom.
Among the new members are Tyrrion and Enrydral, whom I advocated for.
Since they have made a lot of contributions with regards to the Great Bridgeworks and the eventual future of the world, no one makes any overt complaints.
New members or not, they deserve this much.
Back to the meeting at hand, though.
If all goes well, this will be our final battle.
After all, we have taken down the other governments either by force or their willing surrender.
However, the Southern Kingdom has refused to surrender.
Giving them too much time to ’consider’ their position would only help them better accumulate their strength in preparation against us.
We can’t have that.
"That’s why we can no longer delay our movements. We must attack within the week, and eliminate the enemy within a day if possible."
"Why a day?"
"Their territory is the least known among the other continents. They may have hidden mechanisms and traps that will be detrimental to us in a long-drawn battle."
Kalakuta and I watch as the War Council members discuss rudimentary affairs.
This is tradition, so we let it play out.
I already have a plan in mind, though. It involves the use of Magivores to overwhelm the enemies and take down their strongholds while our Freedom Fighters seize control of these strongholds and use them to our benefit.
’The Southern Continent is filled with Magivores of all kinds. In fact, based on the reconnaissance we did earlier, it has been confirmed that the Southern Kingdom indeed has large walls protecting their sanctuary from the creatures lurking outside.’ I lick my lips in excitement, fully aware of the implications.
’That land will be a gold mine for me, since I will be able to control so many Magivores at once. If I make all of them storm a specific area of the walls and disregard their lives in the process, creating an opening shouldn’t be too difficult.’ A broad smile forms on my face as I think about this. ’Also, since the Southern Kingdom didn’t personally experience me taking down the Western and Eastern assault on the Northern Empire with Magivores, I’m certain they will underestimate my abilities.’
The Freedom Fighters have also ensured that there is no communication between the South, which is still an enemy, and any of the other Great Nations which have surrendered to our ideals.
In essence, the Southern Kingdom is currently in the dark.
We can use that for our benefit.
"We should also address the progress of the Great Bridgeworks. Right now it has extended towards the Western, Eastern, and Central Continents. We can use these channels to gather supplies and also traverse the path in the Central Continent to easily reach the Southern Kingdom."
"Indeed."
"It surely makes warfare easier."
"Trade... That is its primary use. Let’s not forget that."
"I have a question. Would it not be easier if we wait for the road and bridge networks in the Central Continent to develop a little before we launch our attack? In its unfinished state, we will still experience some difficulty crossing the Continent and reaching the Southern Kingdom."
I sigh and shake my head.
Again with this shortsighted sentiment.
There is a faction among the Freedom Fighters that is more interested in building The Great Bridgeworks than actually fighting for the freedom that got us to this point.
The one who asked this question is their leader.
He believes he has asked a profound question.
But he’s wrong.
"The answer to that is simple. There’s no way the Southern will allow us to complete the project when they know what it’ll mean. Rather than sit on our arses and complete the project when there is still an obvious enemy in front of us, destroying the enemy to prevent any future interference is a much wiser choice." I explain with a calm smile, although my voice contains sinister undertones.
"That’s true. While the Great Bridgeworks is the future, we mustn’t neglect the fight that brought us to this point."
"I agree with the Knight."
And just like that, the opinion in the room shifts to my side, leaving the man who brought up the question slightly mortified.
’There’s another reason why we can’t wait, and it has to do with the instability within the Freedom Fighters and also Kalakuta’s current state. It’s clear that we have begun to break into factions, which isn’t good. Kalakuta has started having doubts, and he is also carrying a heavy weight. I intend to end all of this before it becomes too much and this entire movement implodes on itself.’
Thankfully, I’ve been doing great so far.
I haven’t died and experienced a regression in several months now.
That’s good.
’Now, then...’
Since the final resistance to the battle has been squashed, it’s time for me to present my plan.

[Meanwhile...]
In another part of the world, a group of eerily masked individuals take their seat around a circular desk.
They all possess dark cloaks that obscures most of their bodies.
Masks also hide their faxes, and gloves cover their hands. Their entire frame is engulfed in darkness, and even the room they occupy is dimly lit.
This eerie vibe continues in silence.
Until everyone has their seat.
All six of them.
"North, East, West, Central, and our newest member South..." The one seated at the head of the table speaks to everyone present.
"It’s good to have you all here."
There are five identical chairs occupied by each of the people identified by the distorted voice.
As for the voice owner, they are resting comfortably in the seat of honor.
"Acting Leader, has the time finally come?"
An eager voice echoes in their midst, and all eyes fall on the one occupying the prime seat.
Everyone present knows they aren’t the true owner of this seat. They are only acting as such due to the authority of the one truly above all of them.
Their Supreme Leader!
"Yes. The Supreme Leader has shown me the path ahead. All preparations have been made just in time."
"Thr Supreme Leader truly wise."
"Will I finally get to meet them after all this time?"
"You haven’t? Oh, that’s right. South is the newest, so they haven’t had the privilege yet."
"How are they like?"
"Haha... You have no idea, South."
The meeting continues, and for a good chunk of it, all kinds of praises are placed on the name of this mysterious leader of theirs.
Suddenly, the room had the aura of reverence.
Like this is a Cult
But this is simply the Dark Guild.
"Let’s move on to other matters." The Acting Leader eventually calls everyone to order so that they can discuss concrete details regarding the events of the future.
"The Freedom Fighters will be attacking the Southern Kingdom soon. This will present us with the opportunity we have been seeking for so long—the death of Kalakuta."
Everyone nods.
Nothing that has been said is strange. They have been plotting this for some time now.
"Only he stands in the way of the Supreme Leader’s grand plan. But with his demise, our Supreme Leader’s will can finally be fulfilled."
There is great rejoicing in the hall.
After all, the days of their ultimate enemy are numbered, and the advent of their ultimate goal is at hand.
"For the Supreme Leader’s will!"
"FOR THE SUPREME LEADER’S WILL!"
