Chapter 294: The Main War Camp

After a couple of hours of marching and crossing the forest that lay between the old camp and the main camp, the four of them finally set foot on the edge of the battlefield with the rest of the soldiers and knights.

Bael scanned the calm battlefield and shifted his gaze to the main camp in the distance.

Unlike the old camps, the main camp had far more tents, and each of them was noticeably bigger than before. Soldiers from other camps roamed the place, and he felt the presence of over a thousand superhuman knights and the six nebulae that had kept the duke from carrying out the war for the past three decades.

Originally, the kingdom had seven nebulae. During an attack on the palace, however, one of them had been left injured and unable to participate in the war.

Obviously, such a thing sounded absurd because how could someone with an advanced aura be injured so severely, and that was the problem; no one knew how the duke’s forces had managed to do it. However, Bael did have an inkling.

"How long are you going to stare at it?" William’s unhurried voice reached his ears.

Bael snapped out of his thoughts and finally noticed that he had stopped in his tracks.

He rubbed the back of his head and mumbled with an awed expression, "It’s just so big..."

"That it is," William nodded.

Then they moved to the main camp, and upon reaching it, they walked to the guards standing near the entrance, and William took out a silver plate with two stars.

The plate was his formal identification as a knight of the Leonara kingdom.

The guard on the right took the plate from his hand and examined it. A few moments later, she returned it and asked, "How many soldiers?"

William turned his head and looked at the three figures standing behind him and answered with a smile, "Three."

The guard’s lips dropped into a frown, and she mumbled with a puzzled expression, "Just three?"

William nodded. "Yes."

"You sure? The more soldiers you have under you, the more merits you will gain," the guard said while peeking at Bael and his students from over William’s shoulder.

William patted her shoulder and said, "You don’t have to worry about it."

The guard stared at him for a good minute and nodded, "If that’s what you want."

With that, she told him the location of the tent, which had enough space for four of them, and they moved to it.

While walking to it, Jareb stepped beside William and asked, "Why did you do this?"

William slightly turned his head towards Jareb. "What do you mean, Lord Jareb?"

"You didn’t have to do what you did for us. If you had more soldiers, you would have gained enough merits to retire," Henry added after walking over to his other side.

Hearing the two, William let out a chuckle and asked teasingly, "So you think I am too old to be a knight? Why else would you want me to think about retiring?"

Henry looked dead in his eyes and stated, "Sir William. You are old."

A wry expression appeared on William’s face. "What do you think, Bael?" he asked. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝙬𝙚𝓫𝒏𝓸𝓿𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝙤𝓶

Bael stopped looking around and turned his gaze to William. A smile creased his lips, and he responded, "You are obviously still very young, Sir William."

William smiled as well. "Did you hear that? Haha!"

The two noble heirs shook their heads, and they reached the tent.

The tent was similar to their previous one, and they claimed their beds.

The moon was already high up in the sky, and all that was left for them was to fall asleep, so they did.

Though unlike the previous camp, Bael didn’t shrink his Zone completely and kept it the size of the tent to make sure there were no surprises while the four of them slept.

The next morning, a loud horn echoed throughout the camp, waking all the soldiers from their sleep.

Bael rubbed his eyes as he sat up and looked around. Jareb and Henry were still in their beds, and William had already left for his duties.

Jareb and Henry also woke up, and then the three stepped out of their tent.

They walked to the crowd at the center, where the knights were commanding or yelling at the soldiers to move while giving them the kingdom’s armor and weapons.

The reason why they hadn’t done this before was that many of the soldiers had died even before the war started, so the armor and weapons would have gone to waste. Which was reasonable, but they could’ve also saved many of those lost lives.

They took their armor, and as for the weapons, Bael took a sword, while Jareb and Henry just stuck to their family’s swords.

After taking the armor, they returned to their tent, and after an hour, the horn rang once again, and all of them got ready to leave.

The chief commander, one of the six nebulae, was at the front. Behind him rode two of the ten commanders who had fully mastered basic aura. Behind them were the soldiers, and the superhuman knights were at the flanks with their horses.

The knights who hadn’t yet awakened their aura were at the far end, working as the final defense if things went south.

Bael, Jareb, and Henry were among the soldiers.

"He must’ve done something," Jareb spoke with his fists clenched at his sides.

’Guess he isn’t as naive anymore, huh...’ Bael commented in his head. He had the same hunch because none of the other nobles were part of this first group of a thousand soldiers. Which meant Enris had done something to make sure Jareb and Henry became part of this.

"Stop thinking about it. Remember why you had joined the war in the first place," Bael mumbled.

Henry nodded his head and took a deep breath.

"My soldiers!" The chief commander’s voice echoed throughout the place.
