Chapter 147 – Headed Home… The Long Way

The rubble of the roof from the house where the children were originally locked in came down from the sky and landed all around the complex.

[Are you sure about the effect of the bomb?] (Syrus)

[Yes, it's not that powerful.] Eva adamantly claimed.

[Enough, we need to leave.] (Luna)

The bomb exploded a little earlier than Luna would’ve liked, but it was still within her expectations. They just needed to get out of here, and they would be fine.

Anlesa quietly whispered, “Don’t worry, Jerry, we will be out soon.”

With the noise, people were leaving the buildings, and some even brought their children out with them.

Luna immediately moved towards the planned exit in case the explosion happened before they got out.

As they were moving towards the entrance, the guard stationed there yelled out, “Where are you going?”

“To the extraction point.” She replied.

Jerry’s face was brought to her chest so that the entire time he couldn’t see anything, including Anlesa’s appearance.

[Didn’t we talk about how big of a pain getting there was going to be at night?] (Syrus)

[Is this really the time?] (Eva)

[Maybe, it's going very smoothly.] (Syrus)

[We do need to be quick; we aren’t going to one of the emergency extraction points after all, and I don’t want us to be dragged with the crowd.] (Luna)

Once out of sight, their hair switched back to red. The reason for the change was simply due if they had exited as ‘Syrus’, a red-headed person, leaving would've been far more memorable to the guard, so they reverted back to brown for the escape.

Soon they reached the building, and Susan and Billy were waiting for them.

“Your back.” Billy’s heart calmed immensely seeing Syrus returning, and even more so when he saw Jerry in her eyes.

Syrus put Jerry on the ground for a moment, and Susan and Billy immediately went to hug him.

“Guys?” His eyes widened. “You guys are okay, right?”

“Of course, you idiot!”

“Nev–er better.”

[Silly kids.] (Syrus)

Anlesa immediately started stripping and swapped clothes; the kids were too busy hugging to even notice.

[Keep the dress for later or burn it?] (Syrus)

[It would be best to keep it for later, but lords, do I want to fucking burn it.] (Luna)

[Burn it then.] (Syrus)

[Don’t… we will probably need something like that for later.] (Eva)

[Luna?] (Syrus)

[...Sigh, we should keep it.] (Luna)

[Fine then.] Syrus stuffed it into their back without much care.

[Time to leave?] (Syrus)

[Urgently. The sooner out of this shithole, the better.] (Luna)

[Nasty with the language today.] (Syrus)

[There is still the old man alive…] Eva warned. They had three targets they wanted to kill, but only two were actually taken care of.

[His name was Albert, from what the children told us before.] (Luna)

[Killed one person named Alen, and now we've got an Albert. Funny that.] (Syrus)

[Not that funny.] (Luna)

[I beg to differ.] (Syrus)

[...But what are we supposed to do?] Eva asked. He was someone who knew what the children looked like, knew where they were captured from, which was why they wanted him dead.

[It’s a fucked situation, we haven’t found him, but we can’t afford to be perfect assassins for this mission. Our priority is getting the children out of the city.] (Syrus)

[But… what about after the fact?] (Eva)

[That is for Ash to decide.] (Syrus)

[I don’t like that answer.] (Eva)

[I’m not expecting you to.] (Syrus)

Their quick chat ended by the time they had finished switching clothes back to their regular gear. The best case scenario was that the man would show up during their escape and they could stab him in the back unnoticed, but for the moment, that wasn’t likely going to be the option.

“I know you three are enjoying the reunion, but we need to get out of here quickly.” Said Syrus.

The children didn’t argue, and they began moving immediately. The noise the bomb made was so loud that they weren’t the only ‘civilians’ moving around the city.

Anlesa directed the children, and they tried not to stand out. They weren’t running wildly, just moving around, through the streets and, better yet, the alleys between the buildings. fгeewebnovёl.com

Stomp

The large sound of individuals moving alerted Anlesa, and they saw a squad of knights moving towards the entrance of the city and smaller groups splitting off.

[Fuck… guards are going to all corners of the city!] (Luna)

[Not expected?] (Syrus)

[No, they never expended so much effort before when it came to these kinds of situations.] (Luna)

[Is it possible Albert alerted them?] (Eva)

[Unless there were lies about his role, then no, even if they reported a dead body, they shouldn’t have even had the procedure sorted for a full city lockdown.] (Luna)

[But full lockdown is what we got, any ideas?] (Syrus)

[No…] Luna was at a loss. Based on all her past experiences with the church when it came to emergencies, a full city lockdown was never ever on the immediate to-do list. This situation wasn’t even a major one when it came to the list, of course when they found the dead body it would escalate, but from Luna’s experience, a simple loud boom wasn’t enough to warrant this kind of response–there had been plenty of idiots new to their attributes breaking buildings at any time of the day since the start of history.

[We could leave from the backend?] (Eva)

[That would be blocked off soon.] (Luna)

[Hide in the building until the coast is clear. Though I am not happy with that suggestion.] (Syrus)

[Agreed, and if they are going all out, then they will check everywhere, including the abandoned buildings.] (Luna)

The situation was not what they would’ve liked. Luna was cursing herself for somehow not figuring out this would happen, even when she had no way of knowing this would occur.

[Why are they doing this..?] It was a question Eva had asked many times, and for once it was not for a moral reason. [Fuck! How about we take a massive detour?]

[Detour?] (Luna)

[Oh I get it! Haha, yep fuck the roads lets go all the way around!] (Syrus)

Syrus laughed her ass off, realising Eva’s suggestion.

[But we are near the edge of mountains and other landforms that make travel in other directions possible, not to mention, trying to sneak the long way around will still get us stuck when we come back to the roads.] (Luna)

[Haha, but what if we take the really long way around?] (Syrus)

[Wait…] (Luna)

[Demon territory, let’s go, everyone!] (Syrus)

They were still a ways out and would have to pass a few more towns, but the border of the demon territory was relatively close by, the same demon territory that bordered Arisea Station. By travelling slightly more north-east, they would reach the border, then it would be a long journey around the mountain range and through the territory itself, but going south from within the territory, eventually, they would reach Arisea Station.

[I guess we might be meeting that demon again soon.] (Syrus)

[I would prefer not, but as long as we can get out of the city. Going all the way around would work.] (Luna)

[Demon home, it was?] Eva asked, remembering the words of the last encounter with the demoness.

[Syrus, I am guessing that is just what they refer to as their land by.] (Syrs)

“Susan, Billy, Jerry, we are moving now.” She stretched her arms out, “Jump on, we are booking this place at max speed.”

Susan asked, “Wouldn't it be faster if we ran separately?”

“For people who aren’t me, now trust and grab on; we’ve got to be fast.”

Unsure but trusting of Syrus, they leapt into her arms.

[Don’t push yourself, Syrus] (Luna)

[There is a time and a place.] Said Syrus. Her eyes glowed a bright red, and the blood accelerated through their veins and muscles. [And now is both.]

Leaping off the ground with her first step, her feet flew off the ground with each subsequent step. Dashing down the alley and pushing her foot off the wall as she made a turn. The noise attracted attention, but when people looked, she had already turned the corner.

[Three.] Syrus saw the exit in sight.

[Two.] There was just one more street to go.

[One..!]

“Who goes there!” A guard yelled out from the street. Syrus needed to pass to reach the forest line for her escape north. She couldn’t stop, but the guard was on full alert.

She was running down the alley, which connected to the outer street where the guard was standing. Not willing to stop, she planned a manoeuvre to try and avoid the guard.

However, he quickly moved down to look into the alley

“Lords, where did that sound come from?”

“Argh… Haaaaa, haaaaaa.” Luna breathed deeply in and out as she felt her heart squeeze.

[What was that about pushing oneself?] (Syrus)

[I get it, bad at listening to my own instructions.] (Luna)

With their mana majorly drained from that last action, the purple light faded from their body.

“Feeling… sick…” Billy commented.

“Ha… Not the only one.” Luna replied.
