Chapter 283: Final Act I: The new dawn

Ronmin Empire, the werewolves’ breeding ground, and the place they called home weren’t new to the cold climate. It was cold all year round, but only tonight did it snow that felt warm.

Toby stared at the white substance that fell on the back of his hand before looking heavenward again. As soon as he did, he noticed the faint light coming from a certain direction near the portal in the night sky. His brows furrowed, blinking almost innocently before he felt a sudden thump against his chest.

"Mama," he whispered on instinct. It was a child’s instinct about his mother, having this unsettling feeling in his heart. "Papa..."

"What is this snow...?" the knight carrying Toby outside the gates of the imperial palace also looked up. "A sheep’s wool?"

The knight stared at the wool that landed on his shoulder and then at Toby’s shoulder. Even before he could get answers or wonder, he furrowed his brows as the small white wool glowed faintly on Toby’s shoulder as if the boy’s body were absorbing it as it disappeared.

"Your Highness..." he called, only for him to realize that his body was also glowing.

To his surprise, as they glowed, the fatigue and pain of the night seemed to heal because of these white substances pouring on them. It didn’t take long when they felt refreshed as if he had just woken up from a satisfying good sleep.

"Your Highness, do you..." he trailed off as Toby wasn’t even paying attention, staring in a direction. He followed where Toby was staring, only to furrow his brows at the ball of light ascending in the sky.

It started small, but the more it ascended, the more it continuously grew.

"What is that...?" whispered the warrior in shock, fixing his eyes on the ball of light that was akin to a moon, giving light in this endless darkness.

"Mama..." Tears shone in Toby’s eyes as his lips quivered. "... Papa."

Even though the young Tarsa couldn’t see what was happening, his instincts already told him he would never see them again. He could hear it — Rinnie’s heart apologizing to him.

It was amazing how Toby’s heart could hear his parent’s hearts. How they felt sorry for leaving him this soon, for failing him, and for everything. They didn’t tell him directly, but the faint light covering him felt like Rinnie’s tight embrace.

As tears flooded his face, he chewed his lower lip and hiccuped. He then wiped his eyes with his arm, sporting a brave expression, and set his eyes back in the direction where the ball of light came from.

"I understand, Mama. Toby will not cry... I will wait for you and Papa."

Toby forced a smile, even though his tears continued to stain his cheek. He took a deep breath and huffed, steeling his heart before looking back at the warrior carrying him.

"Sir warrior, we should regroup with everyone," urged Toby, baffling the warrior since they were waiting because he asked him to. "It’s alright. My uncles and auntie will come. Mama said they will and she will make sure of that."

"Uh..." although baffled, the warrior could only nod and carried Toby away to regroup with everyone.

This time, however, the warrior was finally certain he regained his strength faster than he could regenerate.

A miracle.

That would everyone would call this phenomenon. A miracle that happened the night the moon descended on the land and embraced her beloved wolves.

Meanwhile...

Deimos’ berserk form slowly disappeared, morphing back into his human form while looking up at the sky. He didn’t even realize what was going on in his surroundings as he kept his eyes on the light that was shining so brightly, it almost looked like daytime.

"It’s so warm," he whispered as his eyes softened.

He had lived long enough in Ronmin to get used to the climate of their land. Even so, this warmth that was covering the entire land was something he hadn’t experienced in his life. It was the kind of warmth that reached his heart as if cleansing him and his soul.

He then gazed down at his palm, watching how the white snow-like wool glow faintly. He watched his scars and wounds heal without exerting effort. It was different from the usual regeneration ability the wolves were gifted to.

This healing... was more like healing, not just physically, but emotionally and spiritually. Feeling refreshed was not because of the disappearance of fatigue, but because of the cleansing of their soul. Deimos was wise enough to discern that baffled everyone.

"Lamb..." he whispered, seeing the little white glows cover his severed leg, watching how it miraculously grew his limb back slowly but surely.

It was, indeed, a miracle.

Deimos glanced back at the blinding white energy ball ascending, now tripled in size. For obvious reason, despite the healing of the soul, his heart clenched. His soft eyes flickered with bitterness, letting out a deep exhale as he knew this was all Rinnie’s work.

For her to do this... the man proclaimed as the strongest wolf understood the sacrifice. This healing, this light, and this warmth were the lamb’s life. She had sacrificed her life for all of them to live and start with a clean slate. The instincts that often dictated the wolves were not in control anymore.

Although their instincts were still as keen as ever, they finally gained control over them. Deimos hadn’t tested it out, but he knew himself more than anyone. Any changes in his body were something he was always aware of since the emperor was often self-conscious, to keep himself level-headed.

"Ugh..."

Suddenly, Deimos snapped his eyes as he looked back at the source of the grunt. A subtle smile appeared on his face the second his gaze landed on Garrett, who was grunting and rolling on the ground, surrounded by the white glow that was healing him as well.

"Thank you, our Goddess..." whispered the emperor, hopping in Garrett’s direction while his leg was still recuperating. "I don’t know how I could face Cora..."

"Ugh..." Garrett let out another grunt as he stretched his neck from one side to another, unaware of what was going on. After a second, his last memories before he blacked out surged in his head, causing him to pop his eyes open.

"Garrett."

Garret jolted back when he heard Deimos’ voice. Fear instantly clouded his features the second his eyes met with the emperor. It was almost hilarious, but Deimos just sighed.

"I had done things I had regretted, but thanks to the Lamb, she granted us another chance to make up for that." The emperor offered a weary smile, jerking his chin towards Garrett’s body. The latter furrowed his brows, gazing at the emperor cautiously before noticing the white glow covering him and the emperor.

"What...?" Garrett gazed at his body and then at the growing limbs of the emperor. Only then did he notice the white ball that was akin to a smaller version of the moon in the sky. He looked up and heard Deimos speak.

"Rinnie, she..."

"... she gave her divine life to us."

Tito gazed at Daniel, who was sitting on the grass beside him. Just now, Tito regained consciousness and Daniel helped him as if his big brother didn’t kill him. To clear the confusion in Tito’s head, Daniel explained to him what he understood as part of the wolf, while they sat idly on the ground.

"Is that so?" Tito muttered, hands on the grass, eyes up at the blinding light. "So, she will return to the empyrean realm where she truly came from, huh?"

Daniel nodded with his lips closed, blinking. He then cast Tito a side-eye upon the latter’s next question.

"How about Alpha Hugo? Our brother? Would he die?"

The crown prince stared at Tito’s side profile in silence, studying the concern and worry of his little brother. When Tito felt Daniel’s gaze and silence, he turned his head to face his brother, only to catch him smiling.

"The wolf, the lamb, and the child of evil will never die." Daniel breathed out, peeling his eyes away from Tito to the sky. His eyes softened and kept quiet while Tito just stared at him in puzzlement.

"That had been their fates. As long as our race exists in this world, Hugo will continue to live and for as long as he is alive, the lamb would continue to live. Those two had always been one," he added in a soft tone, smiling, as he finally got the closure he often wanted. That was his real identity, what he was, who he was, and all those sorts of stuff.

’I’m Daniel Tempest,’ he affirmed internally, receiving enlightenment in the miracle Rinnie gave them.

"As for the child of evil... I don’t know." Daniel smacked his lips, as there were still some things that were left unanswered. Even so, he didn’t want to dwell on that matter anymore since he understood there were certain things he couldn’t know no matter how he search for answers.

All they could do was manifest the answer they currently gain and live life. The answers would eventually come.

"We’ll eventually find out, but it’s not worth it to just live to look for answers." The side of Daniel’s lips stretched as he shot Tito a grin. The latter chuckled shortly before both men stared at the white ball in the sky before it finally exploded, blinding them for a moment, but oddly, didn’t alarm everyone who witnessed this phenomenon.

If anything, everyone just had one thought in mind.

It was a beautiful sight to behold and witness.

The start of a new dawn.
