True Alpha's Chosen Mate-Chapter 316: You smile like this
Sven and I stayed on the terrace of my room until the sun was about to peek through the horizon for a new day. I had always known I wanted to listen to his story back when we first met, but I had many things in mind and I didn’t want to get attached to someone whom I knew wouldn’t stay.
I still knew Sven would leave one day, but I couldn’t stop myself from listening to his tales. It felt like I was also in those places, experiencing his crazy days. Sometimes, I would wonder if he wasn’t truly stupid because one thing I realized was he was quite dumb... or simply reckless. Or maybe he just had too much luck on him.
Either way, our time together ended in the third country before I bid him farewell to get some rest. Who would have thought I would think of that now the moment I open my eyes?
I gazed at the high ceiling, which was decorated delicately. All I could think of were the stories he told me last night — they were amazing. I smiled at the thought.
’He’s stupid too,’ I mocked in my head, giggling deviously. ’How can he get bitten by a crocodile and wrestle with it?’
My chuckles grew louder, recalling Sven’s misadventures in the kingdom of green. Since Sven had an impressive regeneration ability, he didn’t have a scar to prove he wrestled with an enormous crocodile because he got bitten by it.
How did that happen? Well, Sven was trying to pet it and was asking it to swim across the ocean to get to his next destination. He was a silly man, but I was more silly to still think about it and laugh the moment I woke up. Honestly, I didn’t get enough sleep, but I felt like I did. It was very different from my usual routine in the morning where I get longer sleep but still feel tired.
"I bet if he sees a gigantic bird, he will jump from the top of the tower to reach it just to experience what flying feels like." I shook my head as if that wasn’t even impossible right now. Sven was a man full of surprises, and he was the person who would die young once his luck ran out.
Knock knock...
My smile slowly faded when I heard a knock on the door, turning my head to look at it. When I heard Lisha’s voice, my reality returned to me like a bolt of lightning.
"Come in." I propped my elbows against the mattress to push myself to sit up. When I did, Lisha had already come while carrying a basin. I flung my legs out of the bed, watching Lisha place it on the nightstand, which she dragged within my reach.
Lisha simply looked at me without any emotion, like usual. Although I knew she was suffering from face paralysis — not the real thing — I could not help but sigh.
"You should smile, Lisha," I suggested as I reached my hand towards the basin to wash my face. "I know you’re already beautiful, but try smiling. I think I never saw you smile."
"I am smiling."
I chuckled at her stoic reply, washing my face before she handed me a cloth to dry my face. As I dabbed it on my face, I looked at her.
"You smile like this." I stretched my lips wide to show her what smiling was like. "You try it."
Her cheek twitched for a bit, and what I saw was a forced, awkward smile. I sighed the more I looked at how silly she looked right now.
"Is that how I look?" I asked, and she nodded as an answer. "Goodness..."
A deep exhale escaped my mouth as I recalled Sven’s smile. He does it so naturally. Now that I thought about it, Sven bore a lot of expressions. One could tell when he was happy, serious, shocked, and stupid. It was all written on his face.
I had been hiding under a facade that it was hard for me to express emotions other than the usual seductive or cunning smirk and the like. Another sigh slipped past my lips the more I thought about how such a simple thing was akin to a difficult task.
"My lady, are you alright?" I snapped out of my thoughts when Lisha spoke. "Your hand is inside the basin."
"Ah." I raised my hand on instinct, leaving the cloth underwater.
"Are you feeling unwell because of your spar yesterday with the young master Paris?"
"No, it’s nothing like that. I’m fine, Lisha." I smiled — the usual smile I had practiced for years. "Have you heard about Lucien?" I asked to divert both our attention.
The second I dropped my question, Lisha’s expression grew solemn. "They will reach the duchy in a week — five days at the latest."
"Damn..." I cursed under my breath, feeling my head throb as my finger instantly zeroed on my temple. There was just something in that person’s existence that gave me a headache whenever I thought of him.
"My lady —" I raised a hand even before Lisha could speak further.
"Prepare me my indoor clothes," I ordered as I reopened my eyes, setting them to her almost instantly. "I will go see Paris and perhaps spend some time training. I can’t let him get near me or I might kill him." 𝓯𝓻𝒆𝙚𝒘𝓮𝙗𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝒍.𝙘𝓸𝙢
There was worry pooling in Lisha’s eyes, aware of my complicated relationship with Lucien. Still, she bowed politely.
"I will return immediately," was all she said before picking up the basin and walking away.
I watched Lisha leave my chambers and the second the door shut closed, my eyes glinted menacingly. It was good timing that Paris would let me access the level two dungeon since Lucien would return home sooner than I expected.
"That man..." came out a dark voice, tucking away all the fun times I had with Sven to a place where my rotten soul couldn’t touch them. "... my peaceful days are over."
