True Immortal Heart-Chapter 27: Kicking Down the Door
The new identity Viper had assigned to Dusk left him momentarily stunned.
Didn’t this mean he had to stick by her side all the time?
The very thought of having to be around her nearly every moment of the day made him deeply uncomfortable.
"Can’t... Can’t you just give me a different role?" he asked hesitantly.
At his words, her expression darkened. She grabbed him by the collar and threatened him coldly. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝚠𝕖𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝕖𝚕.𝚌𝗼𝗺
"Stop spouting nonsense—and don’t even think about running away. Doing anything stupid won’t end well for you. Be obedient, and I might just let you live a decent life."
"Fine," Dusk sighed.
What could he even say? That he refused? Only to get beaten down and forced to yield to her anyway?
The more he thought about it, the more Dusk realized the advantages of having a faction. Having a group of competent allies not far below his own level of power significantly amplified his strength and influence.
Thinking of factions reminded him of his own—the Great Love Guild.
’I wonder if those two are handling things properly. Hopefully everything’s going smoothly... I need that guild to grow into something solid.’
"Has Mirella sent you that bitch’s address yet? I bet Aldric is already on his way there," Viper asked.
"We’ve got the address. Are we heading there now?" Silas replied.
"Call in anyone nearby who’s free. I want everyone there. That bitch needs to know that just because Aldric is an orphan doesn’t mean he’s got no one backing him."
Her commanding tone carried the weight of a true leader, giving her subordinates a sense of reassurance.
’Gotta admit, when she gets serious, she’s damn capable. But when she loses it... hell, she’s not even human.’
Despite a sliver of reluctant admiration, Dusk still felt more inclined to curse her. She seemed to enjoy making his life harder at every turn.
...
Not long after, a group gathered outside a grand estate. Even at a glance, it was clear that Aldric’s fiancée came from a highly influential family.
’Damn... how did an orphan end up engaged to a noble lady from such a powerful household? Don’t tell me Aldric’s some kind of protagonist too? Whatever. Guess I’ll find out when I meet him face-to-face.’
Dusk silently reflected, his curiosity about Aldric growing.
If this guy had the potential to become a fated enemy in the future, then he was worth paying attention to.
Glancing around, Dusk noticed more than a dozen unfamiliar faces had joined the crowd—most likely Viper’s idle underlings who happened to be nearby.
"Didn’t think they’d listen to her that easily. She’s pulling over twenty people just for something this trivial?"
Dusk couldn’t help but marvel at the loyalty within this mafia-like organization. He had the feeling Viper didn’t rule solely through fear and force.
Wearing her sunglasses, Viper strode confidently to the center of the gathering. Her coat and hair fluttered dramatically in the wind.
In that moment, she looked like a movie star—so dazzling it almost hurt Dusk’s eyes.
’Goddamn it. Never thought she had that kind of aura too.’
He cursed inwardly but couldn’t deny her charisma or talent.
"Brothers! Our man Aldric’s being bullied by some heartless bitch. We need to make sure she knows—nobody messes with our people!"
"Damn right!" a chorus of burly men roared back.
But she wasn’t finished. Her voice boomed as she launched into a passionate speech.
"We’re a family! And no one lays a finger on a member of our family! Anyone who dares mess with even one of us... will pay the price. Now let’s go show that bitch the meaning of justice!"
Meanwhile, the mansion’s security guard was on the verge of panic. Never in his career had he faced a situation like this.
"Stop right there! Do you have any idea you’re trespassing on private property?!"
He summoned every ounce of courage he had to shout, hoping it would at least delay the inevitable.
But when over twenty intimidating men all turned their glares toward him at once, he nearly wet himself.
’Please, have mercy. I’ve got an old mother at home, a baby daughter, a wife... I’m just trying to earn a living, okay?’
He prayed silently, his heart sinking as he realized tears wouldn’t even come at this point.
Of course, all of his "reasonable" protests meant nothing to Viper. To her, they were just noise.
"Bullshit! We received word that someone in this house is ganging up on our dear brother. If you dare stand in our way, don’t blame us for knocking you out."
As she spoke, Viper lifted her sunglasses. Her eyes, sharp as blades, burned with the fury of a demon from hell—piercing straight through the poor guard’s soul.
The moment he met her gaze, panic overtook him. He bolted without a second thought—better to lose a job than lose his life.
The mob behind her charged in like the mansion was their own backyard.
...
Inside the mansion’s grand hall, Aldric was standing alone, facing the entire family of the girl who was supposed to be his fiancée.
"What right do you have to break off the engagement?" he said. "This pact was made by our grandfathers. What gives you the authority to tear it up?"
His supposed fiancée, Seraphine, looked at him with unmasked contempt. Her expression couldn’t be colder if she’d frozen it.
"Who do you think you are? Just a surgeon—someone average at best—thinking you’re good enough to marry me?" She sneered.
"And who can even verify this so-called engagement? My grandfather passed away ages ago. And you? You’re just an orphan. What right do you have to dream of someone like me? You have no background, no connections—you should know your place."
Though surgeons held respectable positions in society, compared to elite noble families, they were still far from being equals. In a world where wealth measured success, Aldric was simply outmatched.
Being called an orphan was Aldric’s trigger—he hated when people brought up his past.
But before he could respond, the front doors of the mansion were kicked open.
Aldric turned around in shock, only to see Viper and her gang standing there.
"What... What are you all doing here?" he asked hesitantly.
"You idiot. We’re family, aren’t we? How could I possibly abandon you?" Viper grinned.
She had always been kind to members of the Crimson Vow. But when she called them family, a few of the older members exchanged awkward glances.
They knew Viper truly cared about the gang.
But when it came to her real family... well, that was a story best left untold.
After all, the one who had sent her entire bloodline to heaven was none other than Viper herself.
