True Immortal Heart-Chapter 35: Being Honest With Each Other
After returning to the base, everyone went back to their respective duties. Silas resumed watching over the secondhand shop, while the other youngsters headed off to work as hotel security guards.
At the moment, only Viper and Dusk were down in the underground chamber. Dusk casually grabbed a chair and sat right in front of her desk.
"What’s our first move?" Dusk asked.
"Hold on, what’s the rush?" She replied nonchalantly. "It’s just a little bit of time, isn’t it?"
Work should always be balanced with relaxation—she wasn’t some kind of machine that kept operating without pause.
Of course, there was no such thing as relaxation for Dusk. Ever since his return to life, his days had been nothing short of intense.
Running into cops had become such a common event it felt like bumping into old friends. He’d seen them so often, he was sick of it.
"I didn’t come here just to admire your face," Dusk said, stretching out with a long yawn. "If you’ve got something to say, say it. Wasting time like this—I’d rather go kill another scumbag who deserves to die."
Without a word, Viper suddenly stood up and slowly walked behind him. Her hands slid gently over his shoulders, and the seductive scent of her perfume wafted straight into his nose.
"Am I not beautiful? Isn’t it worth admiring me?" She murmured in a voice dripping with temptation.
For reasons he couldn’t explain, her every move and word sent a chill down Dusk’s spine.
’Damn it, 99% chance she’s just bored and trying to mess with me. The other 1%? She’s messing with me for absolutely no reason.’
His impression of her couldn’t have been worse. If not for the fact that he needed her for his own ends, he would’ve chosen her heart as the final one a long time ago.
The mafia’s pursuit of the Rank 1 Heart Master wasn’t something impossible to resist. Maybe—just maybe—his own strength was enough to make him the new boss.
Noticing there wasn’t even the slightest reaction in Dusk’s pants, she pouted with obvious disappointment.
"So, you’re impotent, huh?"
"I am not!"
"Liar. Then why isn’t little Dusk showing any signs of life?"
"Hmph, maybe take a look at yourself first," Dusk sneered, curling his lip in disdain. "What exactly are you that I should find you interesting? Don’t go gilding your own face with gold."
It wasn’t like he had zero interest in women—he’d had his wild days, after all.
Three hundred years was a long time. Before setting his sights on immortality, he’d tried a lot of things.
But Viper was different. In his mind, she was filed in the same category as demons, which meant zero reaction—physically or otherwise.
Of course, none of his insults seemed to register with her. Instead, she acted as though she’d finally figured it all out and said, "Ah, I get it now. You’re gay. Don’t worry, I respect your preferences."
Dusk’s eye twitched. In 300 years, no one had ever dared call him gay. Maybe immortality did lead some beings to let go of all worldly desires—but not him. Not now. He was officially annoyed.
"Gay or not—why don’t you test it and find out?"
With that, he grabbed her by the neck and pushed her to the floor, then straddled her stomach.
But seeing her still smiling, not even attempting to resist, Dusk’s mind immediately kicked into overdrive again.
"You’re planning to slice little Dusk in half, aren’t you? I’m reading you like an open book."
He got off her and stood up without even glancing back.
"Haha, messing with you is too much fun. But you’re wrong—I had no intention of splitting little Dusk in two," she said, grinning with a look that practically dared him to try again.
Normally, that would be a good sign, wouldn’t it? But right now, Dusk didn’t feel great at all.
’Damn it, what is this? Don’t tell me she actually wants my body? No way. This lunatic definitely has no interest in it.’
But almost immediately, he realized he was overthinking it. After all, she’d done plenty of things in the past for absolutely no reason.
"What the hell do you actually want to say?" he asked, frustration in his voice. "Be serious for once."
"Hmph, how boring. I actually thought you’d really pounce on me," she said, pouting before standing up and returning to her seat.
"I know you want to use me," she said suddenly.
Her words made Dusk’s heart skip a beat. He thought about the possibility that she knew he was using her, but if she didn’t say anything, it meant they hadn’t exposed each other and the partnership could continue.
’What the hell? Could it be she really wants to eliminate me? What kind of joke is this?!’
At that moment, he felt deeply unsettled but was ready to draw his gun and shoot her if things took a turn for the worse.
As if reading his mind, she made a finger gun gesture and pointed it straight at her temple.
"You want to shoot me? Go ahead, let’s see who dies first," she said with a laugh.
Seeing her goofy, unserious attitude put Dusk somewhat at ease.
"Say what you want; stop hesitating. Are you scared I won’t dare to kill you?"
"He he, of course you’d dare to kill me. I haven’t forgotten you’re a serial killer. Besides, you claim to be a good man. Isn’t it perfectly reasonable for a ’good man’ to kill a crime-ridden mafia?" She crossed her legs on the table and laughed.
"You still haven’t gotten to the point," Dusk said, growing impatient with her.
"Oh my, what’s the rush? We have a long cooperation ahead. I just want to make one thing clear—I know you’re using me, and I’m using you. So as long as the balance between us remains equal, you can act freely. I’ll have your back as much as possible." Her tone was resolute and commanding, inspiring an unusual sense of reassurance.
Dusk was somewhat affected—her presence was indeed something he could not match.
"Fine, honesty is good. But I have one request," Dusk said.
Viper frowned, thinking she had already offered plenty of benefits, yet he still wanted more.
"What do you want?"
"Could you please stop suddenly flipping out and teasing me with nonsense? I don’t find it amusing at all."
"No. I like it that way. What are you going to do about it? Besides, I’m not really going to hurt you badly—at worst, I’ll just give you a bump on the head," Viper said, pouting as if she had done nothing wrong.
Dusk could only sigh. For the sake of the future, he held back.
"Good. Now, let’s talk about the plan," he said.
