Chapter 22: Chapter 22 - Stepsis Love Me

Evelyn stood calmly, her face still adorned with a sly, satisfied smile. With graceful movements, she slowly walked toward the door. But before crossing the threshold, she paused in front of Lena, who stood frozen with fiery eyes and clenched fists.

"Oh, Lena... you look so adorable when you’re angry," Evelyn said teasingly, tucking her hair behind her ear. "But believe me, this isn’t entirely Lucas’s fault. Men like him just need a little... push."

Lena glared at Evelyn, her eyes blazing as if she was about to pounce. But Evelyn only chuckled softly before striding out with an elegant step, leaving behind the sharp scent of expensive perfume that lingered in Lena’s nose.

Lena stood at the doorway, her eyes wide, her face flushed with rage. Her breathing was heavy, and her fists trembled at her sides, barely holding back the firestorm of emotions inside her.

"Lucas!" Her voice shook but was sharp as a knife. "What did I just see!? You—you and that woman... What were you thinking!?"

Lucas stood frozen in the middle of the room, his pants hastily buttoned back up. His face was pale, his head hung low, and his lips quivered as if trying to form the right words.

"Lena... I..." Lucas opened his mouth, but no words came out.

"What!?" Lena snapped, her voice dripping with anger. "I trusted you, Lucas! I always saw you as an older brother who still had hope. But you... you’re disgusting!"

Lucas slowly lifted his head, his eyes filled with deep guilt. "Lena, I... I can explain. I wasn’t thinking clearly, I just..."

"Just what!?" Lena cut him off sharply, her eyes glinting like a wildfire ready to devour everything in its path. "You lost control? Is that an excuse you think I’ll accept? You’re an adult, Lucas! You should know what’s right and wrong!"

Lena stepped forward aggressively, closing the distance between them. Her hands trembled at her sides as if she was barely holding herself back from throwing something at her stepbrother.

"I always thought you were different, Lucas. I thought that even though we aren’t related by blood, you were family to me. But now... now I can’t even look at you without feeling sick!"

Lucas shook his head desperately. "Lena, I’m sorry. I’m really sorry. This... this isn’t something I can justify, I know that. But please, don’t look at me like this..."

"Like what, Lucas!?" Lena snapped again, her voice trembling. "Like a pervert who was fooling around with a married woman!? Do you know how it feels to see my own stepbrother in that situation!?"

Tears began to pool in the corners of Lena’s eyes, but she quickly wiped them away, refusing to show weakness in front of Lucas.

"You always told me to trust you. You always said you’d protect me. But look at you now. You can’t even protect your own dignity!"

Lucas hung his head even lower, his fists clenched tightly at his sides, his face a portrait of crushing regret.

Lena ran her hands over her face, trying to calm herself. "I don’t even know what to say anymore, Lucas. I don’t know how I can ever see you as my brother again..."

The atmosphere in the room was unbearably heavy, as if the air had stopped moving. Lena stood there, her body trembling with anger and deep disappointment.

"We’re not done, Lucas." Lena’s voice was calmer now, but it carried a chilling emphasis. "I’m still staying here tonight. I’m not leaving until you explain everything to me... and don’t expect to sleep peacefully tonight."

Lucas could only nod weakly, his shoulders slumped as if the weight of the world was pressing down on him.

Lena turned and walked briskly to the sofa. She sat down, her head hanging low, her fists clenched on her lap, and her breathing still ragged from the storm of emotions.

Lucas remained standing where he was, feeling small and powerless in the face of Lena’s fury.

Silence enveloped the room, but Lena’s anger hung in the air like smoldering embers, ready to ignite again at any moment.

Lucas stood frozen, his gaze fixed downward, while Lena sat on the sofa with an expression of anger and disappointment. But amidst the chaos of his thoughts, Lucas suddenly remembered something—his skill called "Persuasion Touch."

Lucas took a deep breath and cautiously approached Lena. He slowly raised his hand and gently placed it on her shoulder.

[Skill: Persuasion Touch - Active]

A subtle energy flowed from his fingertips into Lena’s shoulder. Lena lifted her head, her brows furrowed, but her gaze softened slightly.

"Lena... I’m truly sorry. Evelyn... she started it all. I was too weak to resist her. I’m... I’m just a virgin who didn’t know how to react when someone flirted with me like that." Lucas’s voice sounded sincere, trembling slightly.

Lena stared at Lucas with tear-filled eyes, but the anger in her gaze began to fade. She let out a long sigh.

"You’re... such an idiot, Lucas." Lena finally spoke, her voice softer this time. "I know you’re not like that. But you need to be more careful. Women like her will only ruin your life."

Lucas managed a small smile, feeling a slight sense of relief. But Lena suddenly looked at him with a softer, more awkward expression.

"From now on, I’ll protect you from shameless women like Evelyn!" she declared, clenching her fists with determination.

After saying that, Lena’s face turned crimson. She realized how strange her words sounded. She quickly bowed her head, trying to hide her now-blushing face.

"I-I didn’t mean... I mean... ah, forget it!"

Lucas chuckled softly at his stepsister’s reaction. The tension between them began to ease, and for the first time since the incident, Lena managed to smile, though her face was still flushed.

Time passed unnoticed; five minutes slipped by. Lucas began to feel a bit more at ease, but suddenly his body stiffened. His heartbeat quickened, his breathing became heavier, and an unexpected notification popped up.

[Passive Skill: Heartbound Desire - Activated. Target meets criteria.]

Lucas froze. His eyes darted to Lena, who was still sitting on the sofa with a shy, flushed face.

"What... why? Lena, is she... No way." Lucas thought, struggling to calm himself and make sense of the situation.

Lena tilted her head, biting her lip slightly as she looked at Lucas.

"Bro? Are you okay?" she asked worriedly. But this time, her face flushed even deeper, and she bit her lip again.

Lucas forced a stiff smile, trying to ignore the voice in his head and the strange feelings bubbling up from the activated skill.

"I... I’m fine, Lena. Don’t worry."

With uneven breaths and a face turning redder by the second, Lena stared at Lucas. Lucas stared at Lena, her petite lips starting to tempt him. Their eyes locked, and without realizing it, their faces drew closer to each other and...
