Undead Beast Master: Living Solely for My Desires-Chapter 321: Unseen Terror
Up to this point, David had faced all kinds of opponents, but this was the first time someone had managed to take his attack and redirect it back at him.
Worse still — the redirected blow was twice as strong as his original.
But perhaps it shouldn't have been a surprise. According to Rynor's own words, he was one of the princes of the Graveborn Empire. For someone of that caliber, doing something like this was expected.
With a smirk, David raised his hand, curling his palm into a fist. He wasn't going to back down from a challenge.
"Hey!" he called out, addressing the Spectral Warden behind him. "You said you wanted me to get stronger, right? Well, I hope you are happy — it seems that I found somebody that will push me to the limit!"
With that, he threw out a punch, meeting the attack Rynor had redirected head-on.
David's body pulsed with raw power; his mana core so overloaded it was practically bursting. Standing his ground, he punched through the redirected energy, splitting it cleanly in two as it surged past him.
"I've never seen anyone pull off something like this, Your Highness!" David called out mockingly to Rynor, his tone laced with pride and sarcasm.
The prince didn't seem to mind the taunt of his opponent as he nodded in agreement. "Likewise, I have never fought against an Abyss user until today. Hopefully, you will help me catch up to my brother."
It seemed that both of them were benefiting from fighting one another.
Digging his foot in the ground so deep it cracked like a spiderweb, David shot forward with devastating speed.
'If he is able to redirect my ranged attacks, what about when it comes to melee?' This was David's plan. He guessed that Rynor's fighting style was to stay far from his opponent and beat them by redirecting their attacks.
However, contrary to his expectations, the prince didn't seem startled in the slightest and ran forward, intending to meet David in one-on-one melee combat.
Making a mental note that Rynor must have something else up his sleeve, David reached him and threw out a punch. His arm was glowing with the purple energy his body was able to produce.
How was Rynor going to deal with the attack? Maybe he was skilled in martial arts, being a prince and all, and would be able to beat David using his pure skill alone? Or was he just being overconfident and underestimating David's power?
A smile crept upon Rynor's face, and another mirror appeared right before David's punch.
'He is able to make them appear so fast?' he was shocked. Due to the inertia, it was too late to stop the punch, and he hit the mirror with all his might.
As before, the energy was absorbed into the glass. A heartbeat later, the mirror exploded with force, unleashing David's own power right back at him.
Not having enough time to prepare, he was staggered back a dozen feet or so.
"You might be able to block one attack, but what about many?!" David grinned as his eyes started to glow an even more intense hue of purple.
Using the power in his body and pushing past the limit of what he thought was possible, dozens of spear-like objects made out of the purple energy that was around the Abyss appeared and shot forward, aiming to pierce Rynor on the spot.
"If you wish to beat me, then this is not enough!" Rynor declared, as dozens of mirrors of all shapes and sizes appeared, managing to stop David's attacks.
The ones that had absorbed the energy turned, all facing David. The place around them lit up as the mirrors let out dozens of attacks.
There was no need to ask the Spectral Warden for advise as David knew this attack was strong. However, he felt no fear, as the memory of fighting Zaroth and his dragon was still fresh in his mind.
If one were to compare the attack David was about to receive and the flames Luna was able to create, they were far apart!
With a flick of his finger, a giant wall rose from the ground, intending to stop Rynor's attack.
Once the energy collided with the wall, a giant mushroom of smoke appeared, and the ground in the vicinity cracked by the sheer force alone.
Once the smoke disappeared, Rynor was able to see that the wall David had created stood whole.
'He managed to stop that attack without any trouble? There was a chance this could have even injured my brother! As I thought… this Abyss user is special.' His eyes lit up, it seemed this fight really would make him stronger.
The two of them lost all sense of time as their battle raged on, wreaking increasing havoc on their surroundings. Not that it mattered—within the Abyss, there was little to destroy beyond the barren, unused ground. It was an empty place, devoid of any life.
David found ways to use the power in his body in other unique ways, while Rynor managed to block and redirect these attacks with no problem.
If one were to watch the battle from the afar, it would seem that this would continue indefinitely, but that wasn't the case, as both of the men were reaching their limits.
Rynor's mana core was almost drained; having to use so many mirrors took a lot of mana from him.
Meanwhile, David had the opposite problem: as long as he was in the Abyss, more and more power would surge in his being. However, at some point, that power would begin to upset the balance in his body and pose the risk to kill him from the inside out.
Both of the men were going to die if they didn't flee, but neither of them was willing to back down.
David wasn't planning to let the town he had grown up in be captured by the enemy forces, even if that killed him! While Rynor wanted to become stronger and prove himself to his father, as such, he wasn't willing to let go of the opportunity!
"Don't you see that it is meaningless?!" David spat, irritated. Being unable to harm Rynor was beginning to anger him.
"If you think that I am going to give up, think ag—"
Rynor began to shout, countering David's outburst, but stopped mid-sentence as he saw something far in the distance.
His spine shivered as his blood ran cold. His instincts were screaming at him to get out of the way.
"What the fuck is that?" he whispered to himself in pure horror.
Not planning to stay and find out, he exited the Abyss and fled as quickly as he could.
David was stunned, left panting with his mouth wide open, exhaling heavily. "He was speaking so mighty only to leave so suddenly?" He found that strange, so strange that he didn't even stop to think how Rynor was able to exit the Abyss out of his own free volition.
"Brat, your battle has gone on too long. I suggest you end it — now," the Spectral Warden advised.
'What is he talking about?' David raised an eyebrow as he saw that the fucker was staring at something in the distance.
Focusing his eyesight, he gazed at the distance as well.
"Huh?" His eyes widened a moment later in surprise.
It was hard to see that far ahead, but for a fraction of a second, he saw movement. A towering figure — over two meters tall. It had multiple rows of fangs stretching across a wide jaw that reached to where ears should've been.
There were no eyes in the eye sockets, mimicking the Spectral Warden's appearance to an extent.
However, that being had six empty eye sockets — not three.
"I thought nothing existed in the Abyss except for me... and the ones I dragged in?" David's mind raced, trying to process the information. Was what he saw his imagination, or was it reality?
"Brat, did you not hear me? Get out of here!" the Spectral Warden shouted once again, breaking David out of his haze.
Without another word, David dismissed the Abyss and escaped.
He found himself kneeling on the ground, his hand clutching his pounding heart.
Now that the adrenaline of the battle had faded, he was starting to realize something.
His hands and feet were shaking. His entire body was trembling.
If he had stayed in the Abyss even a second longer...
There was no doubt in his mind — he would've been dead.
