Undead Evolution: From Trash To Divine-Chapter 34: Accident
No matter what tactics they had, in the end, if they were unable to keep up with the wolves’ speed, it was pointless. So Gordon’s only hope was relying on Lukas’s talent to slow down the Cometfang Wolves enough to give the rest of the damage dealers a chance to attack.
"Everyone, get ready. They are here..."
Gordon yelled, the killing intent emitting from his eyes intensifying.
Lukas was already ready the moment he noticed the charging Cometfang Wolves streaking toward them.
Howl! Before the wolves could even reach them, the collective roar released by horde hit the awakeners like a sonic attack.
Lukas felt as if his head had been hit by a hammer. For a brief moment, he even lost the ability to hear.
"Damn these wolves..." He forcefully gritted his teeth, trying to keep his senses sharp.
Unlike Lukas, most other awakeners were not as alert, so before they could even recover from the sonic attack, the wolves were directly in front of them.
"Lukas, now!" Gordon turned toward Lukas and yelled with large veins popping up on his forehead. In his mind, he wanted to make the most effective use of the talent first activation as much as possible to get the best possible effect.
Before Gordon had even spoken, Lukas used the passive Gravity Pursuit. With him as the center in an area of hundred meter around him the gravity suddenly doubled.
For a brief moment, everyone froze, including Lukas’s own squadmates.
The two men and woman, who were a little late to react, were hit the hardest. The sudden increase in gravity made their bodies fall to the ground.
Argh! A pained groan escaped the man’s lips.
Gordon noticed something amiss and his face contorted in fury.
"Lukas, you bastard, what are you doing? Are you trying to get us killed?"
His voice was filled with fury. Although the wolves had slowed, that meant dog shit if they were unable to move as well.
"Damn it, controlling the area of effect is really difficult..." Lukas cursed while gritting his teeth. As he had just learned this new talent his control over it was not as precise; there were moments when he made mistakes.
He immediately made a few adjustments, and the pressure that his squadmates were experiencing lessened significantly but did not completely disappear.
Gordon was completely furious, his eyes staring daggers at Lukas’s figure. But after letting out a cold snort, he jumped toward the nearest wolf, his two hands instantly combusting into balls of flame.
Lukas frowned, sensing the naked killing intent directed toward him, his eyes turning slightly colder, silently muttering under his breath.
He was no longer the people pleaser from previous life, this time he could accept conflicts with open arms.
"Don’t test me!"
Just then, a pained howl echoed. Turning his eyes toward the source of the sound, Lukas saw a Cometfang Wolf writhing painfully with blood flowing out of its mouth in large quantities.
Thud! Letting out one last pained whimper, the wolf fell to the ground.
At just one glance, Lukas noticed a sunken area around its belly—probably the handiwork of the weirdo Sam. 𝘧𝓇𝑒𝑒𝑤ℯ𝑏𝓃𝘰𝑣ℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮
It appeared the guy’s ability could be activated from a distance, completely traceless and non-defendable?
Lukas thought with sharp eyes, but there was not enough information to make any valid conclusion.
But this was more than enough. One thing was clear in his mind.
"I need to leave this group!"
He couldn’t afford to linger around people whom he couldn’t defend against.
While he was thinking, his focus never shifted away from the Cometfang Wolves around him.
The squad fought tirelessly, even macro-cooperating with other squads to quickly eliminate the Cometfang Wolves.
So after almost an hour of non-stop fighting, the awakeners finally managed to deal with the first wave.
Although there were losses, what mattered was they were able to deal with it.
After the almost impossible victory, the awakeners’ morale was boosted. Loud cheering sounds reverberated everywhere.
"I can’t believe my eyes. To think we survived fighting against the Cometfang Wolves, monsters known for their speed..."
"At this point, I think all those people who were exaggerating about the wolves’ speed might be straight-up lying..."
"Everyone else, head back to the battle board and exchange our contribution points so we can better prepare for the next wave of attacks..."
Almost every squad had the same thoughts. Lukas, however, remained cool-headed, not letting the easy victory get to his head. Shifting his focus away from Gordon, who was skinning the Cometfang Wolves’ cores to extract the monster core, a slightly puzzled look appeared in his eyes.
"Something is definitely wrong. These wolves are quite weak compared to the monsters I fought before."
If Lukas were to compare, these Cometfang Wolves weren’t even half as strong as the Cometfang Wolves deep in the forest.
No matter how much Lukas thought, he couldn’t come to an answer, so in the end he could only shake his head to stop thinking about it for the moment.
Meanwhile, while he was thinking, Gordon had finished extracting the cores and was distributing the loot. Given that the squad had managed to kill ten wolves, there was enough loot for everyone.
Without interfering, Lukas silently waited for his portion.
However, Gordon completely ignored Lukas. After distributing the six cores, he pocketed the four for himself, treating Lukas’s presence as nothing but air.
Lukas would be stupid if he still could not tell what was going on.
Still, he controlled himself for a moment and asked in a plain voice, "Gordon, where is my share?"
His question was straightforward and blunt. He didn’t want anything extra, just something he had worked for. If it wasn’t for Gravity Pressure, the squad might not even have managed to kill five wolves in total, and the two deadweights might have already turned into cold corpses.
"Huh!" Gordon’s eyes widened as if he had heard something absurd. Then, the next moment, as if finally understanding, a look of realization appeared on his face.
"Your portion? Giving you a part of the loot for almost killing us all?"
"Hmmph! Dream on!"
At those words, the eyes of the two deadweights turned slightly furious. It was clear, although it was an accident, Lukas’s action had almost killed them.
