Under the vampire Lord's protection-Chapter 556: A slow start
Arabella’s eyelids fluttered shut even when her mind continued to buzz with everything her senses had encountered those recent three days and nights. Every little thing that brought questions without answers along.
Although the one that hogged her attention the most was her husband and the ideal solution to free him from limbo.
That was how her feet connected with that fine grass that looked just exquisite but lacked every other attribute that made the element what it was. Namely the fresh, lemony scent damp grass had the habit of emitting in the realm of the living.
That time, the young woman did not even bother looking around and simply settled down, hugging her legs to her chest.
Before long, the familiar fabric that wrapped around her shoulders before came into view, sheltering her exposed frame from the sweet winds that coursed the space.
Its colors too were familiar... The smell was undeniably Silas’. Only he said nothing and instead sat down by her side, his arm pulling her into a tight embrace.
He asked no questions, made no comments and didn’t even try looking at her face.
A small part of her worried that perhaps, they had crossed a turning point with each other. That the unfixable had been broken... That he no longer wanted the used-up woman that she had become.
However, the bigger part of her believed different, "Your father mentioned that the fabric of time stretched differently in this realm. Would you tell me what it is truly like? What does it feel like when you are around these parts all alone?"
He finally locked eyes with her which did not help with the loss of her sense of self since Arabella had a clear reflection of the desolate state she had been reduced to.
Her eyes had grown significantly duller, hair drier and feebler, her skin even more parched with very little color left.
But then came his smile. The one thing that changed everything, washing all of her worries away as though they were nothing but easy stains to remove, "It does not stretch that far in your absence. I don’t even get the time to think after your departure for you come back the very next minute in this realm," so warm were his features... So soft, like a luxury she ought to feel lucky to be on the receiving end of.
"Do you feel that is a good thing?" she murmured.
"A blessing," his beam grew brighter.
Her lips parted then closed before opening again, "Do you... Do you believe we will ever be free from this nightmare?" her voice was so meek, it danced on the verge of shattering.
"We will!" his lips connected with her forehead, "It will end. This is a promise from me to you," 𝒻𝑟𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝑛𝘰𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝘤𝘰𝘮
The two of them took a moment to just... Breathe each other’s essences, shutting their eyes to enjoy the full extent of it.
That was until her voice rose again, inspired by their short seconds of peace, "I wonder though, how do you feel in this place? Physically I mean?"
Silas tilted his head, eyebrows furrowing slightly.
The expression prompted her to elaborate, "Do you feel thirsty at all? Or tired perhaps?"
Something shifted in his eyes... In his whole face even. It was as if her words had unearthed something that was buried very deep within him.
"I hadn’t thought about it at all, but... Now that you mention it, no," he shook his head, eyes on her collared neck, "I have not longed for the taste of blood at all since my arrival in this place. In fact, I don’t believe I even remember what it tastes like,"
She straightened and fully turned her upper body towards him, "What about your other senses?"
"I can’t run as fast as I used to," he slowly shook his head, "I cannot hear into the distance or smell or even see from afar,"
They stared into each other’s souls until Arabella could’ve sworn, she caught the voices ringing in his mind, wondering if his experience was the same.
"What do you think it means?" she whispered more to herself than him, a cold streak settling across her chest, "Do you believe it could possibly be that you are straying further and further from life as we know it?"
"I truly cannot answer that," he again shook his head.
Nothing else was said as both delved into trenches of their own while still in each other’s arms.
But that dread had carved its place within her, clutching at her inner self and refusing to leave her be.
What if it was too late to save him? What if everything was lost and there was no bringing him back?
After a while of that self-lashing however, Silas brought her attention back onto himself. Although, he spoke quite sheepishly which wasn’t like him much, "Would you mind it if... I... If I...," he trailed off, never finishing his sentence.
Seeing the way his diamonds rested upon her neck, Arabella needn’t any pointers as to what he wished to say, "No, of course, I do not mind,"
Her hand immediately rose, pulling her hair fully out of the way for him to work.
Silas’ hands wrapped around her tender throat momentarily. Well, the free part of it and ever so gently, brought her closer to his mouth.
His warm breath pushed and pulled on her skin, caressing at it rhythmically.
That lasted for seconds that stretched to minutes... Or at least, that was what it felt like.
His body grew tenser with subtle trembles coursing him, "My fangs... They are not coming out,"
Despite the drawing terror that bit harder on her lungs, Arabella quickly found a different suggestion to make, "How about we start slowly? You do not need to use your fangs in order to take blood from me. You can make a new cut on me using your nails,"
In response, Silas just stared at her blankly before his features twisted, "How could you ever suggest that I...," his eyes snapped away, "Well, I suppose I broke your skin before but with my fangs it is different,"
