Universe Infinite Canteen-Chapter 733 - Soap
"When I was young, I liked to wander around, and even went to the Ares people's territory to tour with them, even arm-wrestled with their emperor back then."
Yan Wu took a sip of beer and continued, "I have a very direct understanding of the Ares people's combat strength. They are born warriors, raised on a planet with gravity five times that of Earth, having an astonishing bone density and outstanding strength.
"From the age of five, they start undergoing rigorous military training, and by the age of eight, they are thrown into the wilderness to fight against wild beasts. Even teenagers in their early teens can easily defeat professional soldiers from other Planes."
"So... like Sparta?" Ma Lu was somewhat surprised.
"They are strong," the hardware store owner said seriously, "as long as they get serious, no one in the entire Multiverse can defeat their army in less than a month, let alone defeat them so utterly."
"So... are you implying that the war isn't over?" Ma Lu frowned, "But didn't they capture their emperor?"
"I don't know what kind of scheme those Ares people are hatching, but I am sure they wouldn't be so easily defeated."
Yan Wu said, "They are the most resilient and determined race I have ever seen."
"Um, but even if you say so, last time you saw them was two thousand years ago, right? Over the course of two thousand years, you can't guarantee that the Valkyrie People of today are as fierce and warlike as their ancestors.
"Just based on impressions from over two thousand years ago, isn't it a bit hasty to push through such a huge investment?" Ma Lu scratched his head, "If the war really ended just like that, wouldn't we lose a lot of money."
"Even if I don't understand the current Ares people, don't I understand The Grand Alliance bunch of good-for-nothings?"
The hardware store owner impatiently said, "Javier Cruz, just for those political donations from the arms companies, wouldn't end this war so quickly.
"The seller won't wait too long; I'm giving you a maximum of three days. If you can get 2 million Star Currency, I'll let you in on it. If not, I'll find someone else to partner with."
"2 million Star Currency..." Ma Lu currently had about 1.5 million Star Currency on hand. If he could repair and quickly sell all the goods he had gotten from Yan Wu, he might just barely be able to scrape together 2 million.
However, that would leave him without capital for rummaging through old goods next time, and most importantly, the investment risk is not low. If things didn't continue as Yan Wu predicted, and the fighting went on.
A conservative estimate would be a loss of at least thirty to forty percent. Ma Lu hesitated for a moment and then said, "I'll think about it and give you an answer within three days."
The hardware store owner gave Ma Lu a meaningful look upon hearing this, "You've got quite a lot of Star Currency on hand."
Ma Lu's expression remained unchanged, "Hey, if I'm sure to participate, I'll definitely have to find others to chip in."
...
After the late-night snack, Ma Lu also enquired in the fan group about the Ares people.
He found that they were indeed as brave and good at fighting as the hardware store owner had said, which is also why many people wanted to come to Earth for refuge after hearing about the conflict with the Council.
Because everyone expected it to be a long-lasting war spanning over a hundred Planes and lasting at least a decade or so, becoming another Hundred Years' War like those maintained by England and France wasn't surprising. No one expected it to end so quickly and abruptly.
But with an investment of 2 million Star Currency at stake, Ma Lu still found it very hard to make up his mind completely, especially as The Grand Alliance's propaganda machine is now in full swing.
Everywhere was praising this great victory, making him a bit suspicious whether Javier Cruz, the Chief of Staff, really was such a brilliant military god.
And while he hesitated, it was time to go out and gather ingredients again.
With the last 24 hours remaining until his appointment with Yan Wu, Ma Lu wasn't in a rush to make the final decision and planned to contact the old wolf after returning.
He returned to the same cell he had left from through the Bug Egg, only to find the cell door was half gone and severely deformed, as if someone had violently broken it open with something.
Just over a week had passed and the people who had surrounded Ma Lu were nowhere to be found.
Ma Lu first came to the ventilation duct, removed the filter screen, and stretched his fingers in to pry out a blue marble from the groove.
This marble was the same one he had stored there before he left last time.
Afterwards, Ma Lu reattached the filter screen and walked out of the prison cell, whose door was already damaged.
He planned to revisit the communications room and draw a blind box to try his luck.
Ma Lu had no intention of depending on a sentence reduction to leave prison, and besides, that absurd 999 trillion-year sentence couldn't be reduced by even a fraction. He was more inclined to spend his marbles to exchange them for combat power.
Getting his hands on some weapons in advance would make his subsequent fishing much easier.
The corridor outside was very quiet.
According to what Ah Yi had said previously, after Pakash's death, the balance of the tripartite in Block 23 had been broken.
The Black Dog Gang and the Polkana family would surely erupt into a major war, with whoever could swallow the Spiritual Cultivation Sect becoming the absolute overlord of Block 23. And the loser would most likely lose their right to survive as well.
It was a war where neither side had any room to retreat, Ma Lu seemed to already envision the bloody scene where they beat each other's brains out.
But for now, he didn't know who the final winner would be.
However, such matters weren't really a secret; once he encountered other prisoners, he would naturally find out.
Yet for some reason, whether because both sides had suffered too many casualties in that battle, Ma Lu didn't encounter a single prisoner on his way to the communications room.
He didn't think too much of it and picked up the phone to contact the guard office first.
After learning that he had signed up for the fishing event, the tone from the other end was somewhat unfriendly.
"Why are you only calling now? In 40 minutes the spacecraft is taking off. Hurry up and come over to check in. If you're late, your sentence will be extended by another 10 years."
Ma Lu didn't make excuses for himself, but just asked again, "Is it still possible to buy value-added services?"
The voice paused for a moment, softening slightly, "Are you new here? The value-added services are open for purchase until the very last moment before departure. What do you want to buy?"
"Three blind boxes. I have a blue marble here," Ma Lu said.
"Alright, then place the marble on the conveyor belt. After I check and confirm it's fine, I will send you the blind boxes."
On hearing this, Ma Lu placed the blue marble on the nearby conveyor belt. Soon, the conveyor belt started moving.

The marble rolled into a metal pipe, making a clear tinkling sound that traveled far off. About 5 minutes later, the conveyor belt started moving again.
This time it was the opposite direction, and soon three uneven-sized cardboard boxes were sent to Ma Lu from the other end of the conveyor belt.
Ma Lu opened the largest box first, only to find a toy bear nearly half his height inside.
Then he opened the smallest box, the size of his palm, and looked at the object that had appeared in his hands, Ma Lu was momentarily speechless.
It was a bar of soap.
