Unveil Her Secret Identities-Chapter 45 - 0 I’m coming to pick you up _1
Chapter 45: 045 I’m coming to pick you up _1
The dinner was over in the blink of an eye. Lu Jiayue was smiling all the time, behaving obediently and sensibly, winning the hearts of the grown-ups.
Lu Qingyi wore a cold face the whole time, even being picky while eating.
No, it would be more precise to say she seemed like she didn’t want to eat anything at all, her whole person seeming lethargic.
"What’s with your attitude?"
They left the Ye mansion. Lu Yao was somewhat angry.
"Nothing." Lu Qingyi hardly bothered to lift her eyelids.
She was tired.
Yao Meishu glanced at Lu Qingyi blankly, yet she didn’t say a word.
"Yueyue, want to go to the bookstore?"
Lu Yao asked Lu Jiayue, his tone full of gentleness.
It was a sharp contrast to his strict attitude towards Lu Qingyi.
"Yes, Daddy." Lu Jiayue nodded, and then turned to look at Lu Qingyi, "Sister, do you need to buy any reference material?"
You’ve got to work through a lot of exercises to score well in many subjects, Lu Jiayue was certainly no exception.
"No need."
Lu Qingyi played absently with her phone.
High school knowledge was simple for her and practicing with exercises was entirely unnecessary.
"You said you wanted a full score." Lu Jiayue feigned surprise.
"Hmm."
She indeed said that.
"Do you know what a full score is?" Yao Meishu didn’t even bother to turn her head as she looked at Lu Qingyi through the rearview mirror.
Lu Qingyi, "I know."
"You dropped out of school after middle school, and you’re dreaming of a full score?"
Yao Meishu spoke with a slight hint of mockery.
None of the top scorers in annual college entrance examinations in Jin City had ever achieved a full score. The best score was only two points shy of perfect.
"Did I ever say that I dropped out of school after finishing middle school?"
Lu Qingyi smiled, her smile tinged with irony.
What she had said was that she had never attended high school, not that she started working after finishing middle school.
Her grandma had specifically said that she had never attended high school, not that she had dropped out after middle school.
"Sister, so you went to a vocational school then?"
Lu Jiahao felt like he was hard-pressed. On one side were his parents and twin sister, and on the other was his sister related by blood.
In their struggle, he felt at a loss.
"No." Lu Qingyi’s tone remained cold.
"I’m going back to school."
They had reached the bookstore. Lu Qingyi opened the car door and spoke to Lu Yao.
The atmosphere at the Lu Family was suppressive; she didn’t want to go back.
"You just came out." Lu Yao reminded.
"Sister, I’ve asked Aunt Lin to prepare a late-night snack."
Lu Jiayue blinked, putting on the guise of a sweet little sister.
"Nobody would be happy."
Lu Qingyi curled her lips in a slight smirk, filled with subtle irony.
Yes, if she went back, nobody would feel happy.
Motorcars filled the bustling streets. Waiting for the green light, Lu Qingyi rushed across the road, without any hesitation.
Suddenly, she realized that in the vast sea of people, there seemed to be no place where she belonged.
[Have you eaten yet?]
Her phone vibrated in her pocket. Lu Qingyi unlocked her phone, a message from Xu Boyan popped up.
[In the street.]
Lu Qingyi didn’t know why, but she sent these words.
[Send me your location, I’ll come to pick you up.]
Xu Boyan’s text came back quickly.
Lu Qingyi looked at the text. A small smile appeared on her face. She sent her location, then obediently stood still.
Someone was willing to pick her up, which was nice.
The night was slightly chilly; Lu Qingyi was wearing thin clothes, so she wrapped her arms around herself.
She was much more afraid of the cold than the average person, unable to withstand even a hint of chilliness.
"Cold?"
A harsh male voice sounded in her ear, and a jacket was draped over Lu Qingyi.
"Not really."
Lu Qingyi gave a soft smile.
She turned around to look at the man, a genuine smile forming on her face.
"I was too slow."
Xu Boyan reached out to hold the girl’s cold hands, blaming himself.
It was already autumn; the weather was getting chillier. His girl had been standing alone on the street for so long; she must have been frozen.
"You came really fast."
The journey from his place to where she was took around twenty minutes. Xu Boyan made it in slightly over ten minutes.
That was really fast.
"Not going home?"
Lu Qingyi should have left school a long time ago, now was the time for being home.
Why would a girl be roaming on the street so late at night?
"I want to go back to school."
Lu Qingyi said softly.
There was no strong emotion, just plain and calm.
Hearing this, Xu Boyan felt a pang of pain in his heart. His girl had her own house and parents.
Which boarding school student wouldn’t crave going home during the holidays?
Who’d choose to stay in dormitory voluntarily?
"Okay, I’ll take you back to school." Xu Boyan raised his hand, gently ruffled the girl’s hair.
His voice was gentle.
Lu Qingyi laughed, "Thank you."
Each word Xu Boyan said went straight to her heart, spreading warmth all over her body.
The school allowed students to stay overnight. When Lu Qingyi reached the school, it was already 8 p.m.
The campus was very quiet, with hardly any moving figures.
It was holiday time, who would want to stay in a campus dormitory?
Perhaps, only she, Lu Qingyi, would want to come back to school.
She smirked self-mockingly.
"Wait here, kiddo."
The school set a curfew of 8:20 p.m for boarding students during holidays.
Xu Boyan walked into a small shop and then came out with a plastic bag and put everything in Lu Qingyi’s hand.
"Don’t forget dinner. Eat more snacks."
The bag was full of snacks, and Xu Boyan also packed some food in a thermal box.
He handed over the bag to the girl, speaking softly.
His girl was indeed a picky eater; he didn’t know if she had enjoyed her dinner.
She was also thin; maybe it was time to put on a bit of weight.
"Thank you."
Lu Qingyi looked at the bag in her hand, her heartbeats accelerated.
Xu Boyan must be a good man.
"Don’t just say ’thank you’ all the time." Xu Boyan slightly squatted down, looking into the girl’s eyes.
Always saying ’thank you’ seemed a bit distant, he didn’t like it.
Lu Qingyi agreed instantly, "Okay."
"You should go back now. Come for breakfast tomorrow."
It was nearly time. Xu Boyan reminded.
He had thought about asking her to stay with him, but that seemed inappropriate; she might not feel comfortable.
The school was about to be emptied; would she be scared staying in the empty dorm by herself?
"Brother Xu, she’s still young."
Xu Yi suddenly appeared, standing next to Xu Boyan, reminding him.
He had witnessed Xu Boyan speeding, all just to pick Lu Qingyi up earlier.
Xu Boyan seemed to fall for her deep indeed. freēwēbnovel.com
"Not young anymore." A small smile formed on Xu Boyan’s lips, "She’s an adult."
The girl looked young and youthful. If she hadn’t said it herself, he wouldn’t even have known that she was already an adult.
He wasn’t in a rush. With time, he was sure she would eventually be his; he was confident in winning her heart.
Xu Yi: "..."
An adult?
Is that possible?
Xu Yi was utterly stunned. Lu Qingyi did not look at all like an adult.
She rather looked more like a high school freshman.
