Dexter opened his eyes with much difficulty and saw Eva staring at him.

"Your finally awake." Eva said with a smile.

Dexter didn’t answer her and just looked around, he found out he was in the infirmary of the base.

Eva saw he was ignoring her and changed the subject.

"Do you know what caused this?" Eva asked.

Dexter of course would not want to say that he was the one who walked out at night, even though they said no one should go out.

"I don’t know." Dexter answered expressionlessly.

Eva tried to look at him to see if she could read his emotions from his face and saw nothing.

She kept on staring at him and then Dexter felt like he was in a daze, Eva was reading his mind.

After Eva looked away and Dexter came back from his daze.

"Did you just read my mind?" Dexter asked in disbelief

"I asked you first, answer my question." Eva said with a hint of threat in her tone.

"You already know what is the point of threatening me?" Dexter asked with a smirk.

"I want to hear it from you."

"Well then yes, I did go out at night."

"Why?"

"To figure out what was going on, on this planet." Dexter answered.

Eva sighed and then turned around to look out a window unto the open expanse of land.

"You noticed it to didn’t you, something is wrong about this planet." Eva said.

Dexter was really surprised and just looked at her hoping she would say more.

"One day I was taking a walk here with my brother on this planet, on our way we saw a weird statue, as soon as we touched it a swarm of undead rushed at us, if not for my brother’s sacrifice I would have died there." As she spoke, two drops of tears fell down her cheek.

Dexter at the moment as he stared at this woman did not see the calm and decisive princess, but a vulnerable being.

"Why don’t we go and find out what is going on?" Dexter suggested.

"What?"

"Me and you, we both head out and find out what is going on in this planet and why it is so dangerous."

Eva hesitated after she heard what Dexter suggested, all in all she was a living being and she did not want to die.

Dexter looked at her face and seemed to figure out what she was thinking about.

"Don’t worry you would not die." Dexter said decisively.

Eva looked up after she heard what he said, "What did you say?"

"I said you would not die, I will be there to protect you."

Eva couldn’t help but chuckle, she knew she was stronger than him yet he was saying things like he would protect her.

Nonetheless she still felt rather sweet in her heart.

"So when are we heading out?" She asked.

"Probably in a week, I have to get prepared."

After Dexter said that, Eva nodded in acknowledgement, she also got to get prepared as well.

After Dexter was treated, he was discharged from the infirmary and he went straight to his dorm.

Wilbert, Anthony and Richard were sitting there and they faced the door as soon as he entered.

Wilbert wasted no time and headed straight to Dexter, holding him by the collar and raising him up.

"You went out in that night didn’t you?" Wilbert asked.

"Yeah, so what of I did?" Dexter retorted.

"You fool, you caused the deaths of hundreds of men and you still feel no shame." Wilbert said as he pushed Dexter against the wall.

"I am sorry for the deaths, but I had to do something, I couldn’t just sit back and see everyone living in constant fear, and even if I didn’t come out in the night, it was still not a guarantee that they would not die later."

Wilbert let go of Dexter, he didn’t have strength to argue with him.

After Dexter was let down by Wilbert.

"Look I need your help, Me and the princess are going to find out why this planet is so dangerous." Dexter said.

Everyone looked at him like he was a fool.

"Look if you want to die, go and die, do not drag us down with you." Anthony said.

Richard nodded along and Wilbert just sat there.

"Are you guys just going to sit back and just do nothing, even if you survive today, there is no guarantee that you would survive tomorrow." Dexter said trying to change their minds.

Wilbert just sat there emotionlessly, Richard made no moves of looking like helping him and Anthony just went to do what he usually did.

"Fine, stay here and keep acting like cowards." Dexter then left.

As soon as Dexter left Anthony looked at Wilbert and said, "Should we have helped him."

Wilbert didn’t answer and just stared at empty space, no one knew what was going through his mind.

Dexter with the help of Eva was able to gather materials and create another nanotech suit.

When he showed the suit to Eva she was stunned. 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖

"So you can create tech like this?" Eva asked sarcastically.

Dexter felt kind of annoyed by the way she looked down on him.

"Yesh, chill out I was just kidding." Eva said jokingly.

Dexter was stunned for a moment but he recovered, it was the first time he saw Eva act that playful.

"Do you have everything?" Dexter asked.

"Yes."

It has been one week and they were ready to set off.

Just before they made a move they heard a loud shout for them to stop.

Both Eva and Dexter looked back and saw Wilbert, Anthony and Richard walking towards them.

"You finally decided to join?" Dexter asked.

"What made you think we were going to join." Wilbert asked back.

"I knew you would join in the end." Dexter said with a smile.

After one week they were all ready to venture into the land of the unknown.
