Chapter 22 - 22: Elara Rowan

Faced with an overwhelming number of titles, he hesitated.

Where should he even begin?

Just as he stood there staring blankly at a plethora of books like a fool, a fair hand extended toward him, and offering a book:

"A Brief History of the World" by William M. Henry.

Seeing the book, he turned to look at the owner of the hand with a confused expression.

But before he could express his gratitude or confusion, he was stunned — the owner of the hand was actually his desk mate, that "nerd girl," and if he remembered correctly, her name was Elara Rowan.

Honestly, just hearing her name, you could already picture her as a soft, gentle, and quiet person. And she was exactly that — a gentle and quiet presence.

She was still wearing her simple, rather old clothes, but instead of looking crude, they gave her a modest and sincere appearance.

Right now, she was extending the book toward him with her gaze lowered, her long bangs partially veiling her face.

When he turned to face her, she visibly flinched before speaking in a barely audible voice.

"Here... t-this might help you."

Saying this, she pushed the book into his arms. Before he could respond, she immediately hurried away, looking rather flustered.

Watching her retreating figure, Rex glanced at the book in his hands, caught between amusement and confusion. (°ー°〃)

Unsure of what to make of the situation. He just shook his head in amusement, and unconsciously, a smile crept onto his face.

Looking at the book again, he opened it and skimmed the synopsis. It was exactly what its title suggested — a brief history of this world, just what he needed right now.

On the other side of the library, Elara finally stopped running to catch her breath, her clear cheeks flushed pink — whether from running or embarrassment, even she wasn't sure. she pressed her hands against her hot cheeks and collapsed against a nearby shelf.

"Aargh! Are you crazy, Elara? Why did you suddenly decide to approach him? When did you become so brave?" she silently screamed, patting her burning cheeks.ヽ(≧□≦)ノ

"But b-but, he looked so troubled, and he's also my classmate. Shouldn't I help him?" she muttered hesitantly, questioning herself.

"Yeah, that's right. As classmates, it's totally normal to help each other," she reassured herself, as if justifying her previous actions. (︶^︶)

---

Let's turn back the clock five minutes.

As Elara was organizing books, she noticed Rex approaching. Before he could see her, she instinctively hid behind a shelf, watching as he made his way to the history section.

Seeing that he hadn't noticed her, she patted her chest, trying to calm her racing heart. Peering through a small gap in the shelves, she muttered to herself,

"W-what is he doing here? Is he looking for me?"

But she quickly dismissed the idea.

"Girl, can you stop being so delusional?" she whispered self-deprecatingly.

"But what is he looking at?" she wondered, noticing his confused, troubled expression.

"He looks so lost..." She hesitated, unsure whether to intervene.

"But... he seems so troubled."

"Just leave him be, Elara. It's not your problem. You have work to do," she reminded herself.

After a fierce internal struggle, her kind heart finally won out.

"Maybe... just a little help."

As someone introverted, the idea of initiating a conversation made her palms sweat. Yet, after hesitating for a while, she steeled herself and walked toward Rex.

She silently approached the shelf near him, quickly scanning the titles before pulling out a book she thought would help. Without saying a word, she extended the book toward him, her heart beating like a drum, avoiding direct eye contact.

Back to the present.

After reading the book's synopsis, Rex felt satisfied. He knew it was exactly what he needed. He stopped searching further and walked toward the seating area, but after looking around, he realized something troubling.

He couldn't find a single spot available; the entire library was jam packed.

"What the heck? There isn't even a single chair to sit on?" he muttered, his eyes scanning the crowded area.

"Are these people crazy? It's just a library, not a cafeteria."╰(‵□′)╯

What he didn't know was that this library was one of the most diverse and prestigious in the entire university, where students could find anything, they needed.

And You can't really compare these students to those of an ordinary university like in his previous life.

Because everyone who is enrolled here is a bit of a genius or he has tons of money or connections though even that requires above-average intelligence.

And this university is notorious for its intense workload and tough curriculum.

Naturally, the students had to squeeze time wherever they could.

And this library was a sort of central hub and was always bustling, especially crowded during peak hours.

After resting for a while, Rex resumed his search.

"I don't believe there isn't a single seat available," he grumbled, his eyes burning with determination.

Just then, he spotted an empty box seat. Overjoyed, he hurried toward it.

"Even the heavens have pity on me," he whispered, wiping away his nonexistent tears of joy. 〒▽〒

He hadn't expected finding a seat to be so difficult. Students from prestigious universities were truly different.ಠ▃ಠ

Reaching the box, he noticed it was excellently positioned — a quiet corner with a large window offering a clear view of the lush greenery outside. Although it seemed odd that no one else was sitting there, he didn't care.

As he entered, a few students looked at him strangely — some with mocking expressions and others as if they were about to watch a show.

Settling into the seat, he moved his butt around to find a comfortable posture.

After finally finding a comfortable posture, he discreetly took out Aeon Glasses from his pocket, in fact he was taking it out from the system warehouse.

[System Warehouse: An independent space to store system goods.

Note: Non-system goods can't be stored inside.]

He examined the glasses carefully.

They had a sleek, yet intricate, minimalist design made from an unknown alloy that appeared both metallic and matte.

The obsidian black frame contrasted with translucent, iridescent blue lenses that shimmered faintly.

The nose pads were soft and gel-like, with slim, curved arms fitting comfortably.

The glasses exuded a sense of timeless innovation, hinting at hidden wisdom.

Feeling satisfied with its appearance, he carefully wore them.

The world suddenly seemed sharper, clearer — as if someone had applied a beauty filter to reality. As he looked out of the window, The view outside was vivid, and he could see farther than ever before.

His thoughts accelerated, and he discovered that he could deactivate the feature with a mere thought, transforming them back into ordinary glasses with a clear, unaltered view.

'These are truly a masterpiece, something worthy of the system', he thought, feeling exhilarated.

Feeling extremely satisfied and motivated, he opened the book.

After skimming the page, he realized his reading speed had gone through the roof—he could get through a full page in just 5 to 10 seconds. And most importantly, he understood it all perfectly, like he'd read it a hundred times before, and could easily recall most of the content.

Overjoyed by the glasses' capabilities, he quickly immersed himself in the world of knowledge.

Completely unaware that someone had quietly entered the box.
