Vampire Nightlife-Chapter 182 New Man In Town
Lukas walked down the streets of the Nyx City and found himself admiring the sights. The Carmilla House district was home to many smaller shops and establishments that Lukas didn't think could be found in a Vampire city.
And yet they made perfect sense.
There was a cafe that wasn't VitaBlood but was instead a fancy and chic place for Vampires to lounge around and chat with their friends, a kind of boutique and parlor that actually took care of one's appearances.
"Didn't think they'd use dyes and stuff." Lukas raised his brows.
A Vampire left the store sporting a ridiculous hairstyle and a bold choice of hair color.
But not every Vampire was once again gifted with the ability to physically manipulate their features… and speaking of which, Lukas coughed and saw a particular store that was clearly not present in Lux City.
Indulgent Nights.
There were some attractive Vampire women that hung around and smiled at passerby, and while they weren't outwardly expressing their intentions… the design of the store itself was enough to make Lukas realize that fashion, enjoyment and this kind of entertainment predominated the Carmilla House.
Lukas saw them eye him, and for a moment, he wanted to look away but couldn't.
This wasn't supposed to be a big matter, and those ladies didn't actually compare much to Chaerin and Lily. They were sexy and weren't afraid to show off their assets and physiques, but that wasn't enough of a reason for Lukas to get interested.
Lukas might have wanted to check Indulgent Nights solely because he was interested in what accommodations they provided… if there was scented candles, dim lights and anything along those lines but that was basically it.
Just a former inclination made from the fact that he had been mostly alone by himself in the past. Lukas brushed the thought away and continued down the district of Carmilla until he found what he had been looking for.
The Durand precinct was the only building in the avenue that hadn't scream of luxury and indulgence. It was painted with a white finish and had blue streaks that were mostly utilitarian than anything else. 𝒇𝙧𝚎𝐞𝙬𝒆𝑏𝑛𝑜v𝚎𝒍.c𝑜m
Lukas approached the store and found a couple of men and women in uniform seated at the table. Some of them were filing paperwork, others sipping their drinks while reading newspapers and there were some actually just toying around boredly with their pen.
However, they immediately stood to attention at his arrival.
"What can we do for you, sir?"
"Do you have any cases to report? Any incidents in the streets that we should be aware of?"
"Are you safe or in need of protection?"
Lukas shook his head and eyed the newspaper that clearly had something written about the Carmilla Household. Something about three hogging the streets and something in the air and whatnot.
"Sir?"
"Oh, yeah. I'm not here in need for help or anything like that, unless looking for a job is something that is considered to be a cry for help." Lukas grinned.
"Huh." One of the Vampires hummed underneath their breath.
Lukas didn't miss the exchanged looks between them and raised his brow. What was with the atmosphere? It wasn't probably a wrong thing to look for a job right?
"Do you have your credentials and authority to work?" one of them asked. "We'd like to see some documents beforehand, sir."
"While there are some slots open in guard-work, we still have to check if you are fit for the position. There are seminars that can be added to gain the expertise on it."
Lukas blinked and was surprised. He gotten a job before in Lux… and didn't quite remember needing to submit all of that, until he remembered that they probably had his information on database before.
"If you're interested, there's also a workshop on training to become a hunter. Although that's a less feasible job than others." A Vampire waved over a leaflet.
"I see… out of curiosity, is there something like assassin work here?" Lukas asked and then quickly realized that was a wrong question to ask.
"Assassin what?" the atmosphere really turned more serious after that.
"Where do you come from sir? We don't do that kind of work here at all. That's outlawed and any attempts to assassinate another Vampire will provoke harsh sentences."
There was crime in the city of Nyx, and once again, Lukas couldn't help but compare it to Lux. Delinquents like Alexei and his group were able to roam free, but that probably wasn't a thing here unless people were good at hiding it.
"Where do you come from?"
"Uh, Lux. Just a thing over there." Lukas replied at last.
"Ah, Lux?"
"What's that place? I've never heard of it before."
"It's the one near the human territory. Of course, something like them would be in need for assassins. But that's really not a practice here." One of the Vampires said evenly and handed Lukas a flyer.
Lukas wouldn't have accepted it, but he was reminded that he didn't actually had his Travel Pass and that had been with Junia Atticus all this time along with the others.
They might have been welcomed by the Carmilla House, but that didn't exactly put them above the law, did it? Lukas didn't think that he'd want to incovenient the folks if he was suddenly contained or anything.
"Thank you. I'll take a look at this stuff then." Lukas took the paper and then left the office. He hadn't actually planned on going anywhere far away, but if he was going to stay long here with the others then he needed those proper documents.
Lukas rubbed his neck and stretched a little, preparing him for another round of leaping across buildings. Even if he wasn't going to endanger his life in the Blood Wilderness, that was no excuse for him to lag behind in terms of strength and power, did it?
"Get the documents and then I'll look into getting a job or this workshop thing, maybe."
