Vampire Overlord's Harem In The Apocalypse-Chapter 44: A Vampire (Part 2)
They sat side by side at the counter, the sizzle of noodles cooking the only sounds filling the small, dimly lit kitchen.
A couple of bowls of steaming hot instant noodles sat in front of them, the aroma of broth filling the air.
Simon’s chopsticks moved mechanically, stirring his noodles absentmindedly. Each bite was methodical, his mind too preoccupied with the weight of what had just happened to focus on the food in front of him.
Bethany, on the other hand, ate with purpose, her chopsticks darting through the noodles with practiced ease.
She glanced up, her gaze momentarily locking with Simon’s. His eyes were distant, a faraway look in them that only deepened the unease hanging between them.
Bethany paused, her chopsticks hovering over her bowl, and she studied Simon for a moment, her eyebrows knitting together in concern.
She couldn’t help but wonder about the strange behavior she had witnessed earlier. The way he had acted — cold, distant, almost predatory. 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖
And then there was the bite. The strange, unexplainable sensation she had felt when his fangs had pierced her skin. The panic, the confusion, and yet... strangely, no pain... only pleasure.
"What happened back there?" Bethany asked quietly, her voice cutting through the silence.
Simon didn’t immediately answer. He continued to chew slowly, his jaw tensing. He didn’t want to talk about it, not right now, but he knew the silence wouldn’t last long.
It wasn’t in her nature to let things slide. His heart pounded in his chest as he tried to figure out what to say.
Bethany waited patiently, her eyes never leaving his face, searching for some kind of clue that might help her understand.
After a long, heavy pause, Simon finally put his chopsticks down. He glanced up at her, his eyes meeting hers, and for a moment, he seemed to hesitate.
"I sucked your blood out of hunger," he said, his voice rough, almost as if the words physically pained him to say.
Bethany blinked in surprise, her expression unreadable for a second. Her gaze flicked to the empty space in front of her, the room suddenly feeling too small.
She hadn’t expected him to just say it, to admit it so matter-of-factly. She could sense the weight behind his words, the shame that hung in the air like a thick fog. But there was no denying it — he was being honest.
Her brows furrowed, her lips thinned.
There was a strange chill in the air now, a tension she hadn’t felt before. She wasn’t sure what to make of it. She wasn’t about to shy away from the truth, no matter how bizarre it was.
"Are you human?" she asked, her voice soft, tentative. She needed to know. She needed to understand what had just happened between them.
Simon didn’t answer right away. Instead, he turned his gaze to the window, as though the answer was written in the dark, empty sky outside.
He couldn’t meet her eyes. How could he? She didn’t deserve this. But then, there was no going back. No more hiding.
"No," he said, his voice barely a whisper. "I’m not. I’m a Vampire."
With those words, the silence in the room seemed to deepen. It felt as though the world had stopped spinning, and for a brief moment, Simon was sure that the air had gotten thicker.
The word hung between them, almost too heavy to bear. He turned to face her again, his expression somber.
He saw her look at him for a long moment, her lips parted as though she was trying to process what he had said.
But then, something unexpected happened. She didn’t react with fear or disgust like he’d expected. Instead, she began to laugh.
At first, it was soft, hesitant. Then, it grew, a burst of genuine laughter that filled the room. Simon’s eyes widened in confusion. His hands clenched into fists, his fingers trembling as he watched her.
"I’m being serious," Simon said, a note of frustration creeping into his voice. "I’m not joking."
Bethany wiped a tear from her eye, still chuckling. She shook her head as she took another bite of her noodles, her smile warm and unbothered.
"I know," she said, her voice laced with humor, "I just didn’t think I’d meet someone that’s not human like me." She met his gaze, her eyes sparkling with something akin to relief.
"I mean, this is kind of a weird thing to share over instant noodles, but..." She shrugged, as if it were just another part of the bizarre world they found themselves in.
Simon blinked, caught off guard. He hadn’t expected this reaction — not by a long shot. He had braced himself for panic, for questions, for everything except what he was getting now.
Bethany’s laughter, her easy acceptance, almost made the whole experience feel normal. It was... strange. But in the oddest way, it felt comforting.
"But..." Her voice softened as she leaned in, her brow furrowing just slightly. "This hunger, it’ll happen again, won’t it?"
Simon nodded slowly, his mind swimming with thoughts of what to say next.
He didn’t want to get her hopes up, but he couldn’t lie. His appetite would always be there.
"If it does," Simon began, his voice low, "I won’t hesitate to—"
Before he could finish, Bethany cut him off with a simple, yet unexpected offer.
"You’re free to suck my blood," she said, her tone matter-of-fact, as though she were offering him a snack instead of something far more personal. "If it helps, I mean. I don’t mind."
Simon’s jaw tightened as he stared at her, stunned by her offer. Did she really understand what that meant?
"Bethany..." Simon began, but he didn’t know how to continue. Her willingness, her lack of fear, left him speechless.
Before he could process it any further, a sudden beep broke the moment. A glowing blue screen appeared in front of them, hovering in the air like an invitation.
The words "Global Video Call" flickered across the screen. Simon’s heart skipped a beat.
He tapped the screen, and it expanded instantly.
The face of Adrian Matthews, a young man with brown hair and blue eyes — disheveled, but still wearing his signature grin — appeared on the screen.
"Greetings, Survivors of the Apocalypse," Adrian’s voice rang out, his tone as confident as ever. "My name is Adrian Matthews, and I’m World Ranking Number One."
