Vampire Overlord's Harem In The Apocalypse-Chapter 51: Blood Burst
Simon stared at the screen that had appeared before him, the faint hum of lightning from the storm outside still buzzing in his ears.
"So how the hell does this work, anyway?" he muttered to himself. His mind raced, the concept of his new ability still unfamiliar, still strange.
The screen blinked once more, displaying the description of his skill:
[Blood Burst (LV.1): Can unleash a burst of blood that will shoot forward at a singular point. The sharpness and speed of the attack depend on how much blood is poured into it.]
"Sounds easy enough," Simon muttered, though he wasn’t entirely sure what he had expected. Still, it was a power, and power could be useful, especially in a world like this.
The storm outside raged on, the sound of acid rain striking the windows, making Simon shiver.
He could hear the faint sizzling of the pavement melting under the rain, a reminder of the world he now inhabited.
This was no longer the world he knew — a place of predictable dangers and rules. Here, everything was uncertain.
He brought his palm back, positioning it in front of him.
Immediately, he felt the hum of power inside his veins. A low thrum ran through his body, from his heart to his fingertips, as the blood inside him began to move.
He concentrated, pulling it toward his palm, feeling it swirl and pulse beneath his skin.
Then, without thinking too much about it, he thrust his palm forward. The blood in his hand shot out, forming a sleek stream that sliced through the air.
A burst of crimson slammed into the counter, tearing through the wood with ease. The force of the attack left a clean hole in the counter, as if it had been drilled with precision.
Simon blinked, stepping closer to inspect the damage. The hole was perfectly round, like a bullet had been fired into it.
It was impressive, but at the same time, a little underwhelming. He had expected something more explosive, maybe more dramatic.
But then again, he was still a beginner.
"So... that’s Blood Burst?" Simon muttered to himself, feeling both slightly disappointed and intrigued at the same time.
It wasn’t a flashy ability, but the potential was there. If he could increase its power, maybe level it up, then it could be something truly devastating.
He let out a sigh, clenching his fist as he stood up straight. "I’ll just level it up and make it more powerful."
Leveling up. The concept seemed straightforward enough.
If he kept using the ability, honing it, pushing it to its limits, the skill would improve.
Maybe he could even unlock new, stronger variations of it. He hadn’t quite figured out the system’s mechanics yet, but he knew there had to be some sort of progression. There always was.
Before he could focus too much on that, he remembered something important: his Hunger. He wasn’t used to the way his energy was tied to it. 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎
Using Blood Burst had drained some of it. He quickly accessed his Hunger tab:
[Hunger: 25]
He frowned. That wasn’t a lot. It wasn’t much of a problem right now, but if he kept using Blood Burst carelessly, it wouldn’t take long for it to eat away at his reserves.
Too much use could drain him completely, maybe even push him past the point of no return. He couldn’t afford that.
"So, it’s not just the blood that drains my power, it’s the damn Hunger too," he muttered, rubbing his hand over his face.
Using Blood Burst wasn’t like using a normal skill — it came with consequences. He had to be careful not to burn through his energy too quickly.
But there was a solution. He could manage his Hunger.
As long as he was mindful, he could push through without draining himself too fast. The trick would be to use the ability efficiently, balancing the power of the attack with the toll it took on his reserves.
Simon clenched his fist again, and as the power surged inside him, he could feel the blood swirling beneath his skin, ready to be called forth once more.
This time, he didn’t fire it off immediately. Instead, he focused on compressing the energy in his hand, feeling it coalesce into something sharper, something more concentrated.
The blood swirled faster, spinning around his palm like a mini cyclone. He could feel the pressure building, but he didn’t release it just yet.
He had to control it, master it. He was starting to get the hang of it, understanding how to manipulate the flow of energy without losing focus or control.
And that was when he realized something: as long as he didn’t release the Blood Burst, as long as he didn’t form a shot, the blood inside him didn’t drain his Hunger.
It stayed still, contained, pulsing in his palm like a ticking clock. But the moment he unleashed the burst, the power would flow out, and with it, his reserves would dip.
"So, I can hold onto it and not burn myself out," Simon muttered, testing the thought. He held the blood in place, letting it linger in his hand as his Hunger bar remained steady.
No additional drain. It was a strange but useful mechanic. As long as he was patient and disciplined, he could work with it to practice.
The storm continued outside, the lightning flashing again as the wind howled through the streets.
"Let’s try this again," Simon muttered, focusing his energy into his palm, he felt the blood swirling to life around his palm but that wasn’t enough, as he harnessed it more, pouring more blood into it, "So the more blood I pour into it, the more powerful it becomes eh?"
He immediately reared his hand out, shooting it forward and like he expected, it tore through the counter with ease, leaving behind smoky remains of a new drilled hole - it was far bigger than the last one he had managed to create.
"Alright I’m getting the hang of this," He muttered with a small smile.
