Vampire Overlord's Harem In The Apocalypse-Chapter 59: Adrian’s Base (Part 3)
The bikers were guards, tasked with securing the base — a secretive and heavily fortified haven for Adrian’s followers.
The rules were clear: approach on foot, not by vehicle. This directive had been spelled out in the private message Adrian sent to their DMS after their last video call.
Any deviation, such as Simon’s bold choice to drive, was guaranteed to trigger suspicion.
The car slowed as they neared the base. It was an imposing structure, its towering silhouette framed by the night.
The perimeter was secured by a tall fence, and guards were stationed at strategic points. Adrian’s promise of protection required a facility this large, and it delivered.
The base looked more like a fortress than a refuge, its walls seeming to hold countless stories of desperation and survival.
Simon brought the car to a halt just far enough from the gate to avoid immediate gunfire. He leaned back in his seat, a sly smile tugging at his lips as his crimson eyes glinted in the dim interior light.
"Alright, out," Simon said, his voice calm yet commanding. Rita and Leo hesitated for a moment, exchanging worried glances, but they obeyed.
Bethany, her green skin glowing faintly in the slits of moonlight, emerged as well, her eyes fixed on Simon.
Simon didn’t move. Instead, he revved the engine, the sudden roar piercing the tense silence and drawing the guards’ attention. The figures by the gate stiffened, raising their weapons.
"Stick to the plan," Simon instructed Bethany, his tone flat. She nodded wordlessly, her expression hardening.
And then Simon slammed his foot on the gas. The vehicle roared forward, tearing through the night. Guards shouted, and the sound of gunfire erupted as bullets peppered the car.
Simon barely flinched. Two blood-red beams shot out from his palms, slicing through the air like lances, striking the nearest guards with deadly precision. Their bodies crumpled to the ground before they could react.
The car didn’t stop. Simon drove straight into the gate, the impact splintering the metal barrier with a deafening crash.
The vehicle barreled through, leaving destruction in its wake. Inside the base, the once-quiet compound exploded into chaos.
Rita and Leo stood frozen outside the shattered gate, their faces pale with shock. "What the hell is he doing?" Leo whispered, his voice trembling.
"Buying us time," Bethany replied coldly, already moving. "We need to move now."
Inside the base, Simon’s car skidded to a halt, smoke billowing from the hood. The engine sputtered, its final roar fading as Simon stepped out.
He adjusted his coat, unbothered by the bullets that had torn through the vehicle moments before. Around him, the base’s defenders scrambled into position, shouting orders and firing indiscriminately.
Simon stood amidst the chaos, a calm figure in a storm of violence.
With a flick of his wrist, a blade of crimson energy materialized in his hand. His lips curved into a predatory smile.
"Let’s get started," he murmured. By focusing his blood, he could morph it into anything... as long as he didn’t shoot it out, he wouldn’t get hungry.
Back outside, Rita’s legs felt like lead as the sounds of gunfire and explosions echoed through the night.
She could see flashes of light from within the base, each burst punctuated by screams. "This is insane," she muttered, her voice barely audible.
"We have to move," Bethany snapped, pulling Rita by the arm. "He’s clearing the way. If we waste this chance, we’re as good as dead."
Leo stumbled after them, his mind racing. He could hardly process what he was seeing. The plan, if it could even be called that, was madness.
Simon was a one-man wrecking crew, drawing every ounce of attention to himself. And yet, as horrifying as it was, it was working.
Inside the base, Simon moved like a force of nature. His crimson blade sliced through the air, cutting down anyone who dared to approach.
The defenders — men and women who had likely never seen combat of this magnitude — stood no chance. Blood splattered the walls, and bodies fell like dominos.
"Where’s Adrian?" Simon demanded, his voice carrying over the chaos. A guard, trembling, tried to raise his weapon.
Simon’s hand shot out, and a crimson beam pierced the man’s chest, silencing him.
From a nearby tower, a sniper took aim. Simon’s head snapped upward, his eyes glowing. The sniper’s bullet never reached him.
A shield of blood-red energy materialized from his other hand, deflecting the shot harmlessly. Simon responded with a wave of his hand, sending a surge of energy toward the tower. The structure groaned and collapsed, the sniper’s scream cut short.
Outside, Rita, Leo, and Bethany slipped through the breach in the gate, sticking to the shadows. The noise of the battle masked their movements, but Rita couldn’t shake the feeling that they were walking into a nightmare.
"We shouldn’t be here," she whispered.
"We don’t have a choice," Bethany replied sharply. "Keep moving."
The trio reached the outer wall of the main building. Bethany signaled for them to stop. "Wait here. I’ll scout ahead."
"Be careful," Leo said, his voice tight. Bethany didn’t respond. She slipped into the shadows, her green skin blending seamlessly with the dim light.
Rita leaned against the wall, her breathing ragged. "Leo... if we survive this, we’re going to need a new plan."
Leo didn’t answer. His eyes were fixed on the flashes of light and the sounds of battle inside. Simon’s plan might have been reckless, but it was working — for now.
Bethany came back and urged them forward and they slipped into one of the buildings, the buildings were towering that was for sure but Simon had given her an errand.
"Supplies, we’re going to get supplies," Bethany said, "That’s going to be our mission,"
After giving it a lot of thought, it was clear that the supplies would be in a smaller building - far distanced from where the people were living, why? There were countless people... doing all that would just ensure that the limited supplies would be stolen.
Separating it from other stocks and deploying guards was the best way to go.
