Chapter 598: Past lives.

In the dark night, Han Xin stood cloaked in shadows, his eyes fixed on the building where Overseer Kira moved about. The windows glowed with a soft light, illuminating her figure. She seemed so relaxed, as if she had not a care in the world. It was as though the other territories hadn’t been attacked and were in chaos.

They had anticipated the city to be under a strict security lockdown, yet the streets felt alive and normal, bustling with activity. It had been too easy for them to slip into the city, hence Han Xin was extremely vigilant.

The only reason he let Xiang Yu enter the Overseer’s buidling alone was that he would watch over him from afar thus why he was on the roof. Even so, tension gnawed at him. His heart raced with each passing moment and he could barely breathe.

He might have been panicking but Mei and Lian were so chilled you would think they were enjoying a day at the beach.

They swung their legs over the edge of the rooftop, happily munching on candy. They seemed carefree and unaffected.

After a long silence, Han Xin turned to them and asked, "Why are you two never worried?" his voice low.

Lian glanced at him, a smile playing on her lips. "You mean master?" she replied, her tone light, as if the world around them was just a game.

"By the way, why do you call him that?" The question tumbled out before he could stop it. He had never meant to ask.

He knew his husband had a lot of secrets he was hiding and Han Xin often told himself that it didn’t matter. What mattered was that Xiang Yu was his now. But something about tonight pushed him to ask.

"Did you know him before?" Han Xin probed, his eyes still locked on the building. Lian was honest in her reply.

"Yes," she said simply.

Curiosity flared within him, and he pressed on. "Where did you meet him?"

"In our past life or... lives," Mei chimed in, her voice soft but decisive.

Lian nodded. "He saved us in our past life, and we have been following him since."

Mei added, "I don’t think we should be telling him this."

Lian laughed lightly. "Or what? The old man will strike us with lightning?"

Just then, the clear sky erupted with an explosive thunderclap, and a flash of lightning illuminated a distant building. Han Xin’s breath hitched.

Han Xin, ’WTF!’

Mei shrugged, her expression suddenly serious. "I guess we are not supposed to talk about it."

"Watch where you point that thing, old man," Lian yelled at the sky like she was talking to someone. "Otherwise, I will tell my master you bullied us."

Han Xin, "..."

"And it better not rain," Mei added with a frown. "I just did my hair."

If the twins could see the divine emperor’s face at that moment, they would laugh their butts off. His face was scrunched up like a chrysanthemum and he looked like he was going to kill someone.

Han Xin looked up at the sky, a shiver racing down his spine. It felt as if someone was watching him, piercing through the darkness. Lian’s voice broke through his thoughts.

"To answer your previous question, he can take great care of himself, so you don’t have to worry."

Mei nodded, her expression serious. "Yeah, you should be more worried about the people inside with him. They are the ones at risk." Han Xin could see the assurance in their eyes, but unease settled in his chest.

Meanwhile, Xiang Yu carefreely approached the building, walking straight into the lion’s den. The atmosphere shifted around him, a tense silence enveloping his steps. When he arrived, the place appeared far more secure than the city walls. Security guards stood ready, their expressions shifting from boredom to shock.

They had thought Xiang Yu was dead, yet here he was in the flesh looking like he hadn’t suffered a single day.

Xiang Yu didn’t say a word. He strode confidently toward the elevator, and the head of security reached for his radio to report the matter. But by the time their call connected, Xiang Yu’s figure disappeared into the sleek metal doors.

As he made his way toward the conference hall, the guards attempted to stop him, their voices bristling with commands. Yet Xiang Yu moved with purpose, unwavering. A few minutes passed before the heavy door to the conference hall swung open. A figure emerged and nodded toward the guards.

"He can come in," the man said, allowing Xiang Yu access.

Xiang Yu sneered at the buff security guard as he walked past, feeling no fear. He stepped into the room, and the atmosphere shifted like a cold breeze. Before him sat the leaders of the other territories, their expressions darkening at the sight of him.

He didn’t mind their intense stares, which seemed capable of cutting through his skin. If looks could kill, he would have been a corpse by now.

He sat down confidently like he had nothing to do with the incidents in their territories. Reaching for a pear from the fruit tray, he casually propped his feet on the table, crossing his legs.

The room fell into a deep silence, thick enough to hear the crunch of fruit as Xiang Yu sank his teeth into the flesh of the pear.

"It’s sweet," he remarked, a smirk playing on his lips.

The group of men and women erupted in fury. Anger flickered in their eyes and they wanted to chop him to pieces. Xiang Yu feigned confusion. "What is going on? Why are you all upset?"

The leader of the Ironwrought Syndicate, a fierce woman with a gaze like steel, hurled her glass at him. Xiang Yu sidestepped with ease, the glass shattering against the wall behind him.

"Don’t you dare act innocent!" she yelled, her voice sharp as a blade.

Xiang Yu chuckled, unbothered by the chaos he stirred. The woman’s fury boiled over, and she nearly crawled over the table to reach him. But her comrades held her back, his laughter and outrage mixing in the air.

"You think this is a joke?" one of the men shouted, his face reddening with disbelief.

Xiang Yu leaned back in his chair, eyes glinting with mischief. "Well, I think it’s quite entertaining."

He took another bite of the pear, savouring sweetness while watching the leaders descend into chaos. Voices rose, accusations flying like sharp arrows in the air.

After a moment, he calmly said, "Have you ever thought about why it was so easy for whoever did what you are accusing me of... to access your cities in secret?... Why they could find your weak points, blow them up just like that, and vanish into the night?"

The room fell silent, a thick fog of confusion hanging over the leaders. They glanced at one another, their anger flickering as they processed his words. Xiang Yu remained unfazed, leaning back in his chair. He was like a casual observer of the turmoil he started.

"I believe you are all smart people," he continued with a smirk. "Think about it.
