Chapter 284: 278 Isn’t curing illnesses just about having hands?

When Zhang Cheng and the others arrived, he had changed into casual clothes to avoid unnecessary rumors.

With so many people watching curiously in the consultation room, Wang Jian wasn’t in a hurry to speak. He was simply curious about the patient’s condition, as this was the first time he had encountered someone with Soul Loss Syndrome. Moreover, on this patient, he saw things that others couldn’t see.

"Tell me, what is the Medicine?"

"And don’t give me any nonsense about being possessed by evil spirits." Sun Fu was insinuating something. When they had first brought the patient in, Wang Jian had mentioned possession, and Sun Fu didn’t want him using that as an excuse to evade responsibility. "Doctors shouldn’t say things like that."

Though he said this, Sun Fu still had an ominous premonition, because Wang Jian was far too calm.

Wang Jian glanced at him and abruptly said, "Mr. Sun Fu, do you have some kind of grudge against me?" He had a feeling this man was a bit extreme.

Sun Fu was taken aback, because Wang Jian was right. He knew full well that Wang Jian was the young doctor he had barred from entering, so he understood the implications of seeking his help today. Deep down, he refused to believe that the young man before him could possess such profound Medical Skills. His own ancestors had no detailed records of the illness, only a prescription, yet this young upstart claimed he could cure it? More than that, every time he looked at the patient on the bed, he was reminded of his own disgraceful reaction after this morning’s incident. The more he thought about it, the more radical his attitude toward Wang Jian became. It was as if proving Wang Jian’s incompetence was the only way to atone for all the mistakes he had made over the past two days.

Seeing Sun Fu fall silent, Wang Jian didn’t bother pressing the issue. He glanced toward the door, made eye contact with Xu Changqing and Old Chen, and then resumed examining the patient.

Soul Loss Syndrome really is the loss of the soul. Whatever Medicine Sun Fu used, it managed to stabilize the patient’s Divine Soul. That’s a good thing, but it’s also the root of the problem. Without a follow-up method to secure the Divine Soul, a final, fleeting resurgence like this was inevitable, Wang Jian thought. He had initially thought Sun Fu was someone like himself, but it was now clear the man had simply found a prescription somewhere without any real method for dealing with the Divine Soul. Realizing this, Wang Jian lost all interest in probing into Sun Fu’s background. Now, he only wanted to understand the patient who had lost their Divine Soul. He had a feeling this case was connected to his own understanding of Divine Soul Cultivation.

"I have a solution, but I might need to know what this person has experienced. Who here is family?" Wang Jian asked, turning to the group. "The previous prescription wasn’t wrong, it just lacked the follow-up measures. Knowing what the patient went through will make this easier to handle."

Hearing that Wang Jian truly had a solution, Sun Fu kept his mouth shut and looked toward Zhang Cheng at the door. If anyone knew the patient’s history, it would be him.

Zhang Cheng frowned. "This pertains to confidential matters and may be inconvenient to disclose. Can’t you cure him without knowing his history?"

Wang Jian looked back at Zhang Cheng. Seeing the baleful aura and a unique, righteous energy about him, he instantly discerned the man’s identity. "A soldier?" he muttered. He now understood that the patient was likely a soldier as well, and one with a special status at that.

With that thought, he simply walked out, leaving a room full of people looking confused.

Wang Jian approached Li Dayu and gave him a few instructions. He then turned to the people in the courtyard and announced, "Due to a special situation today, I may not be able to see everyone individually."

As soon as he said this, the expressions of those waiting in the courtyard shifted. This kind of queue-jumping by the powerful was a common sight, so while disappointed, they didn’t protest. Most had already started to get up to leave when, unexpectedly, Wang Jian spoke again.

"Therefore, I’ve decided to diagnose all of you together, right here in the courtyard."

At these words, everyone was stunned, including those inside the consultation room.

Zhang Cheng asked in a low voice, "Did you tell them my identity before I arrived?"

Xu Changqing, knowing exactly what he meant, smiled and shook his head. "Of course not. I was with you the entire time. You would have known if I’d notified them beforehand."

Zhang Cheng was even more baffled. "Then how did he know who I am?"

Xu Changqing chuckled. "It seems my disciple has already left me, his master, far behind. In his presence, I probably can’t even glimpse his shadow."

"What do you mean?" Zhang Cheng asked, looking perplexed. He knew Xu Changqing was a Taoist and had a vague grasp of their lineage’s practices.

Old Chen, who was clearly more knowledgeable on the subject, exclaimed in shock, "You don’t mean he’s reached that legendary state?" He knew his old friend was on the cusp of a breakthrough himself.

"Exactly," Xu Changqing said with a smile. "I was worried he might not be able to handle this, but it seems my fears were unfounded. If he can’t solve this, no one can."

Zhang Cheng was speechless. Although he didn’t understand the specifics, he could tell it was something incredibly impressive. Xu Changqing was already spoken of as an old Immortal within military circles. What, then, did it mean to be even more formidable than that? As Zhang Cheng pondered this, he watched the events unfolding in the courtyard.

"Doctor Wang, shouldn’t you see the patient inside first?" someone in the courtyard asked quietly, glancing cautiously at Zhang Cheng’s group, clearly afraid of offending someone important. Many others felt the same way. Nearly everyone who remained was watching Wang Jian with similar apprehension. Though they had been gossiping earlier, the face-to-face encounter with these powerful figures made them all feel incredibly intimidated.

Wang Jian waved his hand, understanding their concerns. "Don’t worry," he said decisively. "The patient inside is gravely ill, but he’s already taken some medicine and can hold on for a good while. It won’t delay me from treating all of you. I’ve taken a quick look, and most of your ailments are minor—colds and some old, hidden injuries."

Besides, treating all of you will only take a few minutes anyway, he thought.

He had barely finished speaking when he moved, his hand flashing like a needle. He approached one man and tapped several acupoints in quick succession. When he withdrew his fingers, ethereal silver needles seemed to shimmer into existence where he had touched, glinting for a moment. It lasted only for the blink of an eye. Everyone felt as though they were hallucinating, because when they looked again, the needles had vanished.

The man who had been treated was about to ask what had just happened when he felt a sharp pang from the points that were touched. A wave of heat immediately surged through him, rapidly filling his body. The intense sensation stole his words, leaving him breathing deeply and involuntarily. With each breath he took, the nagging cough that had plagued him vanished completely.

By the time he came to his senses, Wang Jian had already treated several other people.

Just as Wang Jian finished with the last person, Li Dayu emerged from the consultation room with several packets of herbal medicine. Wang Jian took the packets and handed them to the few with more serious conditions.

"Alright, everyone’s ailments have been treated," he announced. "Except for those who need to brew these herbs, the rest of you should already feel a change in your bodies. If there are no other problems, you may all head home."

The courtyard fell into a stunned, deathly silence.
