Villain: Supreme Parasite System in Another World-Chapter 27: Ten Steps Ahead Part 2
They began checking on the victims, but from the way their skulls were twisted and broken, it was clear there was no saving them.
Even the best doctors couldn’t revive a man whose brain matter was leaking out.
One of them sank to his knees, staring at a face he recognized. "Damn... his birthday was tomorrow..."
Another shook his head, voice tight. "And he... he was supposed to get married next month."
"Man, I thought this would be an easy mission with two Special Categories with us... but..."
Silence fell over the group.
Finally, one whispered, "It’s a good thing Sergeant Jax came in time. Otherwise, we’d all be dead against that...thing."
Heads nodded, but their shoulders stayed tense.
They were safe, yes, but they couldn’t help feeling that if Jax had been faster, the damage wouldn’t have been this bad. It was just human nature at work—placing more responsibility on those who were more capable.
And most of them knew it too, which was why no one bothered to voice it.
"But don’t you think that thing fights... differently? It’s too smart for a Category 3 beast."
"You noticed that too?" a man with brown hair replied, hands trembling. "Yeah... it’s like it knew exactly what it was doing. But I thought only Category 4 or higher had any real intelligence, and that thing... it’s too small to even be considered Category 3."
"It might be small, but it’s really powerful. It only took one shot from its tail to crack a skull," another pointed out.
Everyone swallowed hard after hearing the word crack, as if the whole nightmare were replaying in their minds again.
It didn’t help when they saw one of their dead teammates’ faces bulging, his eyeballs gone.
"Let’s not talk about that anymore. It’s making me sick," the brown-haired man sighed.
A shorter guy stood up. "I don’t know, man. I’ve encountered a lot of low-level beasts before, but this is the first time I’ve ever felt like I was being watched."
He clearly didn’t read the room and earned a stare from everyone.
Then, without warning, he sank to his knees. His eyes widened from pain.
"What...." He couldn’t finish his words, because blood started pouring from his mouth.
Looking down, a tail had embedded itself in his abdomen, bringing out his intestines with it.
Soon, Francis slid up onto the man’s shoulder, his teeth rotating like blades.
"How—" someone started, but the words stuck in their throats.
They were sure that two special-category units were chasing the beast, so what was it doing here—appearing from the opposite direction?
’It’s called strategy,’ Francis grinned mentally, then shot forward to take advantage of their surprise.
The agents barely had time to react. Their rifles raised too slowly.
One agent barely managed a staggered step back before a tail snapped against his chest, sending him crashing into the tunnel wall.
Another tried to dive aside, but the attack followed, tail smashing against his leg and leaving him screaming on the floor.
Panic rippled through the remaining squad. They knew they were outmatched, and they knew it too late.
"Get back! Fall back!" someone shouted, but their voice was lost amid the massacre.
Roughly a minute later, all of them lay dead, their bodies scattered across the tunnel.
However, he did not go for their livers—at least, not yet. Instead, he began slithering away, assessing the small holes hidden in the ceiling.
Over the past few days, he actually created his own tunnels and discovered that beneath the concrete there were weak points, eroded over time by water leakage. He then used these to circumvent the area.
The earlier escape was actually just part of his well-thought-out plan—a classic military feint. By drawing attention away from his real target, he could take out the small fries first without interference.
He had effectively turned a 1-vs-20 battle into a 1-vs-2.
’They should be coming back after hearing all those gunshot’
