Villain transmigration: The doll maker.-Chapter 38:Assessment
The academy hallway was filled with students chattering excitedly as they headed in the same direction.
The announcement hall.
I walked at the back of the crowd with both Abeloin and Luna next to me.
"What team do you think you will be placed in?"
Abelion asked excitedly.
"I’m not really sure, but this training isn’t that serious, it’s just a routine assessment. "
I answered nonchalantly. Abelion ran his hand through his hair in frustration.
"This isn’t some assessment, it determines our total score, and you can be mentored by the one, Sir Drakein."
Abeloin said his eyes filled with admiration and wishfulness.
"Why are you even trying you won’t get chosen since you don’t practice magic. "
"I don’t care. Who doesn’t want to be taught by the greatest magician in the alliance...he’s at the twenty-fourth star, a legend. "
Abelion seemed to be on the verge of shouting. I looked around to see some of the students listening in on our conversations.
I could recognise some of them since they had bought dolls from me.
"We’re here."
The doors opened to a large domed hall. The words announcement hall were written outside the massive oak wood doors that were brimming with defense magic.
We chose seats at the back since the first year sat at the back, then the class year increased as it moved to the front.
The headmaster was standing on the podium with all our professors sitting behind him.
The head master, Sir Fernando Velemor, was a short man with a small potbelly sticking out of his well-ironed clothes.
Despite his appearance, he was capable enough to head the academy since he was a twenty-second star magician. A lazy one at that, but still one of the kingdom’s powerhouses.
After everyone had settled down and the hall was quiet, he cleared his throat before pulling out a small paper from his pocket.
His speech.
He had done the same thing during orientation. He had barely welcomed us before he left leaving us with the other professors.
"Good morning, students." Everyone responded back. He cleared his throat again," As you all know, today is our quarterly mandatory test for all departments and majors. Since everyone invited to the Everbound academy is the best of the best we’ve decided the test this year will be a survival test. "
Shouts of no filled the hall coming from the much older students. As first years we only got the smaller version of the test and haven’t experienced it yet.
The mandatory test was a way to test all students regardless of their level, stars, or major. Even Abeloin, who couldn’t fight to save his life, was no exception.
This was a way to keep the students active. Their words not mine. The winner in each year will get a rewards but what most people looked forward to was the training session after.
"The location will be the Evergreen forest. There will be flags distributed around the forest, five hundred to be exact. The one with the highest number of flags will be the champion. There will be teachers to assess. We do not care what method you use to secure your flag. This year, there will be no teams formed prior ,anyone can form teams; however, just remember, there is only one winner per year."
There was a loud shout mixed with groans after his speech. Evergreen forest was one of the most monster-infested forests. It was located on the outskirts of the capital and was mainly visited by adventurers looking for a fight.
Sending students into that forest was the definition of death. They probably had teachers watching over us, but every test never lacks a dead or missing student.
I looked towards Seraph’s direction, and our eyes coincidentally met. She smirked at me before turning to talk to the other teachers.
"Young master, we’ll be in the same team, right?"
Abeloin whispered to me.
"Who else would accept you in their team?"
A clapping sound filled the hall and we turned our attention back to the stage. Seraph was standing there looking down at everyone. She was dressed in black trousers that hugged her body like a second skin with a white, bejeweled shirt underneath and a silver fox fur coat on top. This made her look more commanding.
Everyone was looking at her and it irritated me to no end. If I could, I would have locked her in the mansion for my eyes only.
"You’ll be given ten minutes to prepare your teams before teleportating to the forest. The first to be tested will be the first years"
Her voice boomed through the hall, colder than usual. She walked back to her sitting area after one discreet glance in my direction.
"Your sister is scary."
Abeloin said as we walked out of the hallway. I chuckled at that. We headed in the direction of the teleportation portal. The portal was massive, and there were almost seven hundred students in the first year, and since only the first year was going on, those from other classes were probablyfree for the day. I envy them.
"Are we going to add someone else to the team, or is it just going to be the two of us together?"
Abelion asked while looking around at the groups of people. Most of the students had already formed teams the day before since the test day had already been decided a month prior.
"You have Isis to protect you don’t even know why you’re complaining ."
I said rolling my eyes. We were allowed one servant during our test since the test takes a whole day, and that meant spending the night in the forest.
I wouldn’t have wanted to be so far away from Luna just because of a stupid test. The servants were also a means of protection for the weak who needed protection.
The moment we step into that forest, it will be survival of the fittest.
"First years please come to the teleportation circle."
A voice boomed through the whole arena. Everyone stood up as they scrambled to the arena where a glowing magic circle occupied almost the whole arena.
A spell this large can only be operated by a high-star magician, above level twenty, with the aid of energy crystals to supplement.
The portal shone and we were enveloped by a light.
I opened my eyes to find myself surrounded by trees. We were inside Evergreen forest. All the other students were also around. We had been teleported to the same area and none of us knew where we were.
"You have a whole day and night to collect flags. Good luck to all of you."
A voice sounded in my ears, a transmission. I looked around at the other students to see that they all had the same reaction.
"Let’s go."
I said to Luna and Abeloin. He glanced back one last time before following me and we left the group and entered the forest.
I could see that others had already entered the forest while the slow and confused remained in the clearing we had been teleported in. 𝕗𝕣𝐞𝐞𝘄𝐞𝚋𝚗𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹.𝚌𝕠𝚖
"Are we going to find the flags?"
Abelion asked while looking around at the looming trees.
"No, we need to find a place for rest first. We can let the others do all the work for us."
I said with a small chuckle. I wasn’t about to run around the forest like some fool.
Evergreen forest lived up to its name, there wasn’t a patch of dirt anywhere. Everything was colored by plants.
’Detect ’
My senses covered the forest. Everything in the forest appeared on my radar: animals, students, plants, and even all the flags and their locations, but that was not what I was looking for. I wanted a cave for rest.
"Let’s go east."
I said and retracted my spell. I had found the best place to rest while I wait for the flags to be collected.
We had been walking for a while with me at the lead as I guided them to the cave I had specially chosen.
"Are we there y..."
SNAP!
The sound was enough to shut the complaining Abelion up. Before any of us could even look around, a shadow jumped out of the bushes in front of us, heading directly for me.
Despite it moving fast i could see what it was.
A wolf.
Luna stepped in front of me and slashed her sword down, spitting the wolf in half. Five more jumped out of the bushes but they didn’t even have the chance to attack.
Luna slashed her sword across sending a wave of red aura from the sword and cutting through all the wolves.
Small whining sounds came before the other wolves started to run away.
’Pierce’
A brown spell circle appeared under my feet and disappeared into the ground. The sound of yelping and dying wolf cries filled the quiet forest as sword-like solidified soil emerged from the ground, skewering the wolves.
"It’s just class IV beasts, nothing much."
I said, addressing Abelion, who had gone pale. It was a shock that he managed to stand his ground.
"How did you do that? I’ve never seen any earth-based magician use it. It’s just always blocks of earth?"
He asked curiously about the earlier scare gone with the wind.
