Villain transmigration: The doll maker.-Chapter 44:Deal
Retherly, a small town on the outskirts of the northern dukedom. Inside an unknown small Traven.
Continuation of the interview.
"She was the one responsible for disposing of the slaves," the man laughed bitterly," you know the young master started to buy slaves, but he didn’t treat them as well as he treated the maid. It was as though they were nothing but bags of meat. He bought a lot of slaves, if I could count, he probably bought almost all the slaves in the slave market."
"Why would he even do with that many slaves?"
The person asked in confusion.
"Well, he would use them for his research. Do you know how he would look at them whenever they died?"
The person shook his head and leaned forward.
"He would click his tongue and call them useless. To make matters worse, he didn’t have any expression on his face. For people who enjoy killing, there would be an expression of delight or just a reaction, but for him, nothing. His eyes were blank, he didn’t see them as human at all."
The man paused and took a gulp of the root.
"And then there is the disposal that... that maid did. When she was still young, she would carry dead bodies out of the young master’s laboratory and burn them just a few yards from the training ground. With the increase in slaves, she was only responsible for supervision. The other slaves would carry their dead companions out, with their faces pale, just scared they would be next."
The man took in a shaky breath.
"Do you know what watching piles upon piles of bodies burn could do to you. I can’t eat meat, I can’t stand the smell of any medicine, and worse, I look at slaves and feel like I let them down."
"Do you think he’s fit to run the estate. "
The person asked while writing down furiously.
"You mean the young master? No he will never be able to run the Bloodmoor duchy. He’ll run it to the ground. I can say that the Bloodmoor itself is the only thing that is keeping him in check. I just pray to the God of light that the duchess never release that chain."
"Thank you for your time.... here."
The person passed the knight a small bag of gold coins and stood up. The knight’s eyes widened, and he hurriedly hid the coins.
"Let me give you a warning. You should stop whatever you’re doing, if the young master knows.."
He did finish his words, but looked around vigilantly, his eyes wide with fear. The person shook his head and left the Traven.
Why would he believe the words of a disposed knight and a madman?
...
"What are the results?"
The professor asked me as we stared at the quiet slave tied to the bed. His eyes followed the movement of the light crystal but that was it.
Unlike the first slave, his eyes were dull but still looked the same, bright.
"Are you my mother?"
The slave asked and tried to sit up. The straps held him down.
"Did I do something wrong, mother?"
The man started to cry as foam started to drip from his mouth. I wrote his reactions and conditions in my notebook.
"You’re not my mother, are you god then?"
He tried to sit up again with a cheerful smile on his face. He looked down and noticed the straps holding down. His eyes went from innocent to rage in the blink of an eye.
"What are you doing you cunt? Are you cheating on me? No, I don’t think I have a wife?"
He struggled some more to sit up, but I could see his frustration growing.
"Professor, I think I just managed to induce madness. Although not as violent as I had hoped, the man’s change in mood and lack of proper cognition prove the fact. From his background, he is neither married nor raised by parents. He has lived on the backstreets all his life."
I explained to the dumbfounded Professor. It had taken a lot of trials to reach here. The first subject came out as I had hoped.
Madness revolves around the brain getting too overwhelmed to function properly. And it seems I have finally found the key to the door.
The man suddenly started to thrash harder as the straps dug into his skin.
"Luna, release him."
Luna stepped forward and opened the straps quickly. The man fell off the bed, hitting the floor painfully. He didn’t react; he stood up staggeringly and looked around, confused.
"Mother?"
He burst into laughter before he broke into a run as he knocked and fell over equipment and things that I caught by magic.
"You cunt."
He shouted and started to hit his head on the wall over and over again.
"It seems your evaluation was wrong, young master. He’s hurting himself quite violently, something no normal being would do. He is violent with the way he throws things on the wall maybe strapping them down limits your assessments."
I nodded at what the professor had said. Maybe I shouldn’t strap them, it would be better to create an enclosed space and leave them running free.
The slave was now squatting at one of the corners, crying his blood and tears, dripping on the floor. I turned to look at the other slaves who had survived the experiment, but each had a different expression on their faces.
Some were just crying, others mumbling to themselves, some kept on trying to hurt themselves, they had all basically fallen into madness, but each had different reactions and degrees.
"Lock him up."
Luna walked to the now laughing slave and knocked him unconscious. She took him to a human-sized cage and placed him in there.
I was definitely satisfied with the results of my research, and I could feel the familiar excitement build up.
"Young master, have you thought about handing your slave over to me? I promise I’ll give her back after a small study."
My mood dipped just like that. The professor was starting to irritate me with all this. He just won’t stop despite all my attempts to shut him down.
"Thank you, professor, for the lesson today, but we’ll be leaving. "
The professor clicked and nodded. He walked towards the other strapped slaves and picked up one of the symptom tags I had left.
"Let’s go."
Luna nodded and followed me out of the laboratory. We walked down the quiet hallways heading for the training ground.
Seraph was teaching combat first-year students, and since I was free, it wouldn’t hurt to watch her teach.
"Young master Lucian?"
A voice called me echoing down the hallways. I glanced behind me to see someone I was very familiar with. Purple hair and eyes, a beautiful face, and a body that would cause any man to drool.
"Miss Darlene, beautiful as always what a pleasure."
She smiled at my compliment and pulled me into a hug. I hugged her patting her back softly. Despite her smile i could see the black circles under her eye.
"Stop with the compliments, I got for you what you wanted."
A colorless crystal appeared in her hand. I picked it up and raised it to the light. The light didn’t shine through it despite being colorless.
I smiled at her.
"So you really had it. I thought you would bail out on our negotiation ."
She clicked and crossed her arms over her breasts. Miss Darlene was the fourth-year students’ magic teacher.
"Memory crystals are rare, and I wouldn’t have given them to you if I weren’t desperate. "
The crystal I was holding was a Memory crystal. It was a very rare crystal created by spirits. It could be used to extract thoughts or store thoughts a perfect tool for an alchemist.
"I will bring her to Professor Gilbert’s lab five days from now and make sure she’s well taken care of."
She nodded but the worry was still there.
"You have to make her better as promised, she’s my best friend and the scare is killing her ."
Tears started to gather as she talked. I had approached her after getting news that her best friend had been burned on the face by a griffin during one of her adventures, but she had been found too late, and most of the burns could not heal.
She had been hesitant, but desperation had made her come to me for help after consulting Professor Gilbert.
"Don’t worry, Miss Darlene, I will never lie to you. I’m a student here after all i can’t run. Just send me her image, I would like to know what she looks like before reconstruction ."
"No need to waste time, I have one with me."
She removed the necklace around her neck and opened the small round locket at the end. She took out a small painted picture and gave it to me.
"If you manage to restore her as you promised, we will both owe you a debt."
I smiled reassuringly and held her trembling hands.
"Do not worry, she’ll be as good as new."
