Chapter 52: 52:It’s a she!

"What?"

Blair, behind me, asked in surprise. The guildmaster nodded.

"Where is he?"

"He’s still in the village ."

My excitement reached its maximum. It was really good i had decided to come instead of sending Donovan along with Blair. That had been my plan at first.

"That’s good. Prepare the carriage we’ll be leaving now before he escapes."

I stood up and nodded to the stunned guildmaster and headed for the door.

"But, young master, you haven’t had your meal yet."

He said before I luna closed the door behind him.

"Sir Kolren really did a good job, I wasn’t sure he would deliver."

Blair said as we walked out of the guild. I covered my nose the moment we stepped out. Some people, mostly dirty children, had surrounded the carriage and were listening to Donovan who was telling them who knows what.

The moment i appeared Donovan whispered to them and they all moved aside creating a pathway for me except for two little children ,probably five years old identical boys.

"Do you need something?"

I stopped in front of them and looked down at them. They didn’t flinch but held each others hand tighter. I was in a good mood so i decided to entertain them.

"Are you a big noble from the capital?"

One of the boys asked he was the one holding the other againsthim clearlythe older of the two. Their purple eyes shine even without the sun that was the only redeeming feature about their emaciated body.

"Yes."

I answered coldly. They didn’t flinch.

"Can you take us with you?"

He asked again. Everyone around us gasped but i liked their courage.

"No."

I shut down their hope.

"Can you..." he paused as if thinking of another request, "..some food then."

I chuckled.

"How about we make a deal.." i took out the new strengthening potion i had been brewing but it had not been tested and held it infront of them," I’ll buy you food but you have to drink this first."

The older one looked at the potions then at his brother and opened his mouth..

"I can drink it if they don’t want my lord."

Someone from the crowd said before the two could answer. There was a scream before the sound of a body hitting the ground came. I didn’t look up.

"How about it. If you manage to arrive at the capital I’ll take you in and treat you as my family. "

This seemed to have gotten the oldest one. He took the two potions and opened one and gave it to his brother and drank the other one.

"You promise if we come to the capital you will take us in."

I rubbed his head.

"Of course, just say my name at the gates I’ll have someone waiting for you."

"Okay."

I turned to see the guildmaster at the door looking at me in confusion. Maybe he’s never seen a kind nobel.

"Sir Kolren, if it doesn’t inconvenience you i would like to place an order for food for this two boys and you can also feed this other ones."

The surrounding cheered. I turned back to the boys and slipped them three silver coins in older ones hand and got into the carriage.

"Get me new gloves. "

Luna presented to me new one and i took off the ones i was wearing.

"Why would you give them strengthening potions master?"

Luna asked me curiously as she helped me put on my gloves.

"Its a new potions i added some DNA into it i wanted to see if we can produce another Isis since she integrated with the mimic DNA."

I had been able to intergrade the DNA into their slaves but the results weren’t as satisfactory. Most of them were overwhelmed by the monsters DNA and they would eventually turn to chimeras since the DNA would mix and each choose a part of their bodies to develop.

They were horrendous to look at.

"But why those children they’re barely strong and you can see that they are malnutritioned?"

Luna insisted.

"Thats the thing, if a normal person were that thin they would be bedridden or even dead but those two are walking quite fine and they can talk well doesn’t that strike you as odd?"

Luna’s eyes widened.

"Yes i did wonder but they might have eaten something before we came."

I shrugged at that.

"Never the less their courage was something that pulled me in. No commoner would ever stand infront of a noble without expecting death."

"Yes they were oddly calm."

"They’re spirits," luna let go of my hand in surprise, " half spirits. "

"That explains their eyes."

I nodded.

"Young master we’ve arrived. "

Donovan’s voice cut our conversation short. I had not noticed since i was absorbed in our talk.

We got out of the carriage and the scent of blood greeted me. The carriage had come to a stop just a few steps from the village entrance but i could already see the trails of blood.

This was made from someone who had clearly been trying to escape and had to be drugged back.

The village looked dilapidated. Barely standing mud houses with grass for roofs and pitiful crops that seemed to have survived by sheer luck.

The bushes beside us shook before two men emerge from it.

"They’re from the guild."

Blair said before luna could attack.

"Master Blair, the necromancer is still inside the village he hasn’t left."

The men said glancing worriedly at the dead silence village. The only sound were that of cicadas.

"What house does he live in?"

I asked blair since had had visited him once.

"At the very end of the village. "

I nodded and turned to luna.

"Lets go. "

"Young master i should come with....."

Donovan started but i raised my hand cutting him off.

"If i don’t come out in half a sand glass you can come and see."

Donovan sighed and nodded.

"Be careful young master."

Blair said his voice carried in the wind. I nodded and we walked towards the village .

"There aren’t any bodies. "

Luna said as we walked deeper into the village. All the doors were left open and some of them had come of their hinges . This was the very definition of a dead village.

The lack of bodies further made it more horrifying but that wouldn’t deter me from finding my necromancer. The cruelty he had shown felt more like an audition. He probably had all the bodies.

I reached the only house at the end of the village with a clean courtyard and not a single drop of blood around it and knocked.

"Anyone home?"

My voice was loud against the quiet village as i knocked against the door, there was some shuffling behind the door before it was opened.

The person who opened the door was wearing a long coat and had half of their face covered with a black cloth and also their head covered. Only pink eyes were visible from his covered face.

"Are you the necromancer?"

I asked directly.

"Yes. If you are coming to ask me to work for you then the answer is no."

"But i don’t take no for an answer. "

I said calmly. The necromancer burst into laughter .

"You entitled nobles are the worst since you don’t want to listen then its better you join the village."

There were growling sounds before people started getting out of the open houses and moving towards us. I could recognise them since i often had problems with them.

Zombies.

One of the many undead species a necromancer could create. It seems ours here decided to go with the most generic.

"Why on earth would you kill a whole village that seemed to have housed you?"

I asked curiously. Luna had drawn her sword and was standing by the courtyard fence waiting for them to arrive.

"Its non of you business you’re going to die anyway."

"Is it because they betrayed your location?"

I insisted. Killing seemed illogical especially after Blair visited her more than six days ago. If she wanted to run she should have already run.

"Or is it because you’re a woman masquerading as a man?"

That seemed to hit the trigger button. She attacked me. She threw a kick at my side but i caught her leg. She twisted around using my hold as balance and aimed for my neck. I caught her other leg.

A black spell circle appeared in front of her then the ground underneath me started to tremble. I jumped back letting her go.

A large skeletal hand shot out from the ground before its body followed tearing the courtyard apart . This forced me to move back until i was next to luna who had finished killing the slow zombies.

The thing that came out of the ground was a creature i was familiar with. A wyvern. It was a skeleton but still a wyvern.

I half expected it to fly but to my disappointment it didn’t it was just a skeleton.

The necromancer was standing on top of it as she looked down at me smugly.
