Villain's Path System-Chapter 54: Chapel Session
The corridor was quiet, most students already heading to dinner or their dorms. Lucian walked slowly, exhaustion weighing on every step. The library incident with Elira still sat heavy in his chest—along with Seraphina’s protective rage and the uncomfortable truth that he’d almost watched two powerful heroines tear each other apart.
I’m so tired.
He turned the corner and stopped.
Aria stood near the chapel entrance, golden hair catching the late afternoon light. She wasn’t looking at him—just staring at the ornate wooden doors with that distant, thoughtful expression she sometimes got.
Lucian hesitated.
I could just walk past. Pretend I didn’t see her. Again.
But then a familiar translucent screen flickered into view.

["Go talk to her before she thinks you’re a coward."]
["Or don’t. I love watching you fail."]
Lucian’s eye twitched.
*Shut up.*
He let out a quiet breath and walked toward her.
"Aria."
She turned, and for a split second, her expression was guarded.
"Lucian." Her voice was polite. Measured. But the moment she said his name, a small pout formed on her lips.
"Yeah, I—" He stopped bowing. No more excuses.
"I owe you an apology. Several, actually."
Aria crossed her arms lightly, her soft green eyes watching him with that innocent directness that somehow made throwing more excuses feel impossible.
Silence stretched between them for a moment.
Then Aria sighed, and her expression softened completely.
"I saw what happened yesterday. Seraphina duel with Marcus." She looked down at her hands. "I understand you were dealing with something serious."
"That doesn’t excuse it," Lucian said. "You waited for me. Multiple times. I should have—"
"It’s fine." She gave him a small, genuine smile. "Really. You’re here now."
Lucian glanced at the chapel doors, then back at her.
"Are you free now?"
Aria’s eyes widened slightly. "Now? You mean—"
"Study session. If you still want to."
For a moment, she just stared at him. Then a bright, genuine smile spread across her face—the kind that made her look even younger than she was.
"Yes! I mean—" She cleared her throat, trying to sound more composed. "Yes, I’m free. Come on."
The chapel library was smaller than the main academy library. Quieter. More intimate.
Rows of old books lined the walls, their leather spines worn smooth from centuries of use. A large table sat near the center, lit by softly glowing mana-crystals embedded in the ceiling. The air smelled faintly of old paper and incense.
Aria set her books down and gestured for Lucian to sit across from her.
They studied healing theory and mana circulation techniques for two hours. Aria explained complex concepts with patience, her voice soft but clear, and Lucian actually listened—asking thoughtful questions, taking notes, genuinely engaging.
Evening fell outside the tall stained-glass windows. The mana-crystals dimmed slightly, adjusting to the fading natural light, and the space took on a warm, peaceful glow.
At some point, a comfortable silence settled between them.
Lucian was focused on a passage about mana flow disruption when he felt eyes on him.
He glanced up.
Aria was watching him—not in a strange way, just... observing. Her chin rested on her hand, and there was something soft in her expression. Thoughtful.
"What?" he asked.
"Nothing." She looked away quickly, a faint blush touching her cheeks. "You’re just... different than I expected."
"Different how?"
"I don’t know." She fiddled with the corner of a page. "The rumors made you sound arrogant. Cold. But you’re not like that at all."
If only you knew.
But looking at her now—genuinely happy that he’d shown up, patient enough to teach him despite everything—Lucian felt something uncomfortable twist in his chest.
Guilt, maybe. Or something worse.
She deserves better than someone who manipulates people for survival.
He closed the book and stood.
"Thank you," he said quietly. "For giving me another chance."
Aria stood as well, smoothing her robes.
"Will you actually come next time?" The question came out softer than she probably intended. Vulnerable.
Lucian paused.
He could lie. Make a promise he wasn’t sure he’d keep. Play it safe.
But instead, he met her eyes and said something honest.
"I don’t know."
Her eyes widened slightly.
"I want to say yes. But with everything happening—Marcus, the nobles, all of it—I can’t guarantee I won’t get pulled into something again."
He exhaled slowly.
"So I won’t promise you something I might break. But I’ll try."
Aria’s eyes widened slightly. A blush crept across her cheeks—innocent, confused, like she didn’t quite understand why those words affected her.
"Oh." She looked down. "I—okay. That’s... okay."
Lucian gave her a small nod and turned to leave.
"Lucian?"
He glanced back.
Aria smiled—warm, genuine, without any of her usual composure.
"Thank you. For coming."
He nodded again and left.
