Chapter 76: A Week In the Life

The next few days felt mechanical for Ezra, weighed down by the realization that Rav’s end goal is to destroy the world.

It’s not exactly something he could forget about.

And so the days pass with a relatively stable flow.

In the morning, he woke up and got his chores done. Oberyn always slept in - for someone who claimed to not need as much sleep as a regular human, the Nephilim sure did love to rest.

Once they were awake, they scoured the mountain for hotspots - places that Rav identified as having high occurrences of monsters. They battled together - Ezra’s spear skills and Oberyn’s explosive magic proved to be quite an effective duo.

Ezra drained the mana from the enemies they fought and used it to replenish Oberyn’s. Between managing Oberyn’s mana and dealing with the curse mark, they had to do a lot of hunting for Ezra to stay at a surplus they were both comfortable with. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝙚𝔀𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝒐𝒎

In the afternoons, they returned to the pagoda. Oberyn often read and did the cooking - he was getting better, slowly. And while he preoccupied himself with his preferred solitary entertainment, Rav and Ezra spent the early evenings together, playing games or chatting.

And every day, Ezra asked Rav a question.

"Who built this place, anyway?"

"The Kingdom of Asteria. It was a gift for saving the world," Rav purred.

The next day, he had a more serious question.

"Have you ever seen the Storyteller? Does she exist somewhere in this world?"

"I believe in your world, she existed in the darkest shadows. Here, I have heard the same. Though I have never seen her myself."

One day, the question was quite task-oriented.

"Sunday’s only a couple days away," Ezra thought. "You said that ’Bree’ person is stopping by, right?"

"We’ll talk about it on Sunday, as I said before. Ah, but Bree is just a nickname. Her name’s ’Breeze’ - might be good to remember that."

The non-answer made Ezra grumble.

And sometimes, the questions were more innocuous, only to lead down paths Ezra hadn’t even anticipated.

"Did you...choose to be a cat Ferin? How does that work?"

"The spirit of a wise cat chose me when I was young. A baby Ferin is essentially human," Rav explained. "But receive an ’Anima’ - think of it like an animal soul - when they’re still just an infant. There are genetic components, sure - my dad was a cat Ferin. But my mom was a lizard."

"How does that even work?" Ezra said, awe-struck. "Were you...born out of an egg?"

"You know, I never asked. Also, hm, you’re out of questions for the day. Too bad."

Typically after spending time with Rav, the three of them had dinner - Oberyn’s treat. And after dinner...

Oberyn began to playfully suggest they have some alone time. Rav always had some new, teasing, provocative thing to say - and always left Ezra with a wink as Oberyn pulled him into their shared bedroom.

Oberyn was proving insatiable with his new parts. Not a day passed when the two of them didn’t climax at least twice.

Ezra never thought he’d be getting so much action - not in his wildest dreams. But the Nephilim wanted more and more. Eventually, the characters in his novel tried something Oberyn had never considered. He was sure to bring it up.

"So today I learned about something called ’anal sex’. Do you...know anything about that?" Oberyn blushed.

They were lying side-by-side in bed, slightly dozing off after two rounds of wild play.

It took Ezra completely off-guard. He’d heard of it - but never tried it. A sort of off-limits theoretical that scared him for more reasons than one.

"Uh, yeah," he scratched his head nervously. "I’ve...heard of it."

"Want to try it?"

"Maybe another day!" Ezra said quickly.

He wasn’t sure why he was so nervous. He’d heard of people having ’accidents’ with it before, and the feeling of dread that overcame him was palpable. Although...now that he considered it...

In his past life, he always assumed he’d be the recipient - the ’bottom’ in any relationship he might find himself in. But with Oberyn, who could change his anatomy at will...

"Theoretically, if we did..." Ezra proceeded cautiously. "How do you see that going? Like...what’s going where?"

He couldn’t believe how nervous he was to have the conversation. They’d already been thoroughly acquainted with each other’s bodies - and each other’s mouths.

It was the next logical step. But Ezra’s experience ended at oral, and he liked it so much he never considered pushing past it.

"Well, I’d like to try it both ways," Oberyn said, a delightful flicker of mischief in his eyes. "But if I could only do one, then I suppose I’d rather..."

The suspense killed Ezra.

"...Rather be the one who was, you know..."

"No, I don’t know," Ezra narrowed his eyes.

"Well, the character in the book that reminds me of you...he was the one who, uh..."

His nervousness to say the words was endearing and frustrating all at the same time.

"Alright. The one who reminds me of you is the one who performed the sex, and the one who reminds me of me is the one who took it, and...well...I thought it was really hot, imagining you and me like that, but...I think you’d need to be the one to take it first, so I can understand how the hole is supposed to..."

Oberyn trailed off, fidgeting with a loose thread on the blanket. "Sorry if that’s weird."

"We’ll do it," Ezra said, brushing the Nephilim’s hair out of his face as they lay in the bed, staring into each other’s eyes. "But...is it okay if I take a few days to mentally prepare?"

It was exciting, and hot - but nerve-wracking. It made sense to Ezra, too - how could someone who doesn’t even have a hole back there be the first one to bottom?

He hated the realization that he’d have to ask Rav for advice on how to bottom for Oberyn.

"Of course, Ez. As much time as you need. It was just a thought I had."

Before Ezra realized, it was Sunday. The day that Rav was expecting a visitor - one that would determine whether or not Rav’s desire - to make amends with someone who he’d wronged in the past - possible.

Ezra noticed it first - a brilliant streak of blue coursing through the sky. Rav noticed too, and a lone blue feather fell gracefully from the heavens, landing right in front of him.

"Bree’s here," he said. "Guess that means it’s time. Come with me, Ezra."
