VRMMO: World's First Glyphborne-Chapter 41: Let me get some sip!
The battle of the bear fists went on for twenty minutes. Twenty excruciating and exhausting minutes. By this time Belladonna’s body was completely coated in sweat, her hair clung to her head and her lungs burned with every heaving breath.
Her muscles were on fire in a way she hadn’t experienced in over a decade and, even if she loved fighting, this was something she could have probably gone another decade without experiencing again.
With every step her legs quivered, ready to give out underneath her, but if they did that then she would be dead. So she forced herself to keep standing.
She had burned through all of her ’healing potions’ by now, the blood vials laying empty across the grass somewhere. Each drop having been converted to the vital essence that was the only reason she was still going.
Even the extra Barghest blood she had wanted to save for stats was gone. So it was even more important that she took this bear down and collected the blood debt it now owed her.
As for the bag she had stored everything in? She had no idea where it went. The strap had broken at some point during the fight and flew off her body. It was around here somewhere, but she didn’t have time to look for it.
Bursting forwards again, Belladonna rocked the Bears skull with a slew of haymaker punches. Each one forced it to stagger back and reel in pain. She feigned left, drawing the bears retalitary attack to that side before quickly spinning to the right.
By now the dagger she had plunged into its eye, the basic starter dagger, had been melted into a puddle of molten bone.
Her new dagger, the one she had bought with hard earned money donated from a certain streamer, leapt into her hands as she called it with her Polaris.
The blade glinted wickedly as she slashed at its throat multiple times, her smooth strokes displaying not just her new Butchery skills, but the skills built by over a decade of cooking both for herself and for her job.
It was not much compared to a real swordsman but had this been a chicken, it would have already been dead, dressed and ready to eat with a nice seasoning on the side.
It was at this moment, seemingly distracted by thoughts of chicken, that Belladonna’s leg finally succumbed to its exhaustion.
It wobbled as she put too much weight on it, before buckling and sending her tumbling to her knees.
The bear was not one to let such an opportunity go.
AAAAAAAAGGHHHH!
Almost like it could smell her weakness, the moment her leg gave out the bear whipped its head around and clamped its teeth down onto the forearm of her knife hand. Its teeth carved through flesh, bone and armour alike with barely a hint of resistance. Pain erupted from her arm, although thankfully it wasn’t nearly as much as it should have been.
Finally, that damned pain inhibitor had remembered it was supposed to be active and was dulling the more intense pain. Perhaps if it didn’t she would have gone into shock. Instead she stayed conscious for what came after.
Wrenching its head to the side, the flaming beast easily dragged Belladonna from her feet and swung her around like a rag doll. It slammed her into the wall, the floor and then the wall again.
Pain bursting through her body with every swing as not only did it knock the breath out of her, but she could feel the strained flesh of her arm threatening to tear at any moment. Until eventually, they did.
Flesh torn, muscles snapped and bones cracked as Belladonna was whipped through the air one last time and was sent flying. She tumbled through the air, landing in a heap and rolling to a stop.
More pulsations of pain erupted from her arm, reduced down to something much more manageable.
To Belladonna, the pulsations of pain were like she had nothing more than a muscle cramp in her arm. Which was an odd feeling, considering she could see that arm still in the Bears mouth.
The beast grinned at her again, she was sure of it, as it started to eat her arm, which let out sickening crunches with every bite.
A dull, lifeless chuckle left Belladonna’s lips as she clambered to her feet. The chain slipped off of her remaining hand, and she knelt as she took the time to fix it. Time alloted to her by this beast snacking on her limb.
"You want to bite huh? You’re hungry, is that it?" She said with a dark, monotone voice. The lack of any joy in her voice betraying the sinister smile on her face.
"Because if we’re biting, I’ll happily do the same."
She pulled the chain tight, finishing her ’fix’. It wasn’t wrapped around her arm like before, not all of it. Instead most of its length was laying on the ground, tied up in a noose.
With a devilish smirk, Belladonna looked the bear dead in the eyes as she burned the last drops of her mana and dissolved into shadows.
The bear frowned, whipping its head around to search for her. But no matter where it looked, left right or behind, she was nowhere to be seen.
It should have looked up.
Red eyes peered from the shadows of the cave ceiling as Belladonna dragged herself from the darkness head first.
Gravity immediately took hold of her, dragging her down and onto the back of the flaming bear.
"I’m feeling pretty hungry myself!" She shouted with a laugh as she quickly draped the looped chain around its neck and yanked it tight. The Bear let out choked roars as it was leashed and strangled, starting to flail and struggle.
The special metal that made up the Barghest chain, whatever it was, glowed hot under the flames of its fur. But unlike everything else, it refused to melt.
Belladonna ignored the pain in her feet or her dwindling health as she wrapped the chain tighter around her hand and dragged herself closer.
She was practically laying on the bears back as I stood up to its full height in an attempt to shake it off.
Her jagged teeth glinted as she grinned manically, muttering to herself.
"Now let’s see how you taste."
