Wanderlust Beastkin, Beauty and the Beastkin-Chapter 98: A House into a Home
We talked for a bit longer before a toned man with long, bright pink hair, matching eyes, and light pink wings that sparkled with different shades came flying down from above and landed on the edge of the property. His hair was wild and windblown, and he had an enthusiastic, huge grin on his face. "Hi there, new resident! You are Perla, yes?"
"I am," I said with confusion on my face.
"I just came from the elders’ office to inform you all that your occupancy has been approved and your mate, Titus, is finishing up the paperwork as we speak! You’re permitted to start moving in. Your mate wanted me to let you know, since he wanted you to be as comfortable as possible. Nice find, that one. Upstanding male, if I’ve ever seen one, and I meet new beastkin all the time," said Jett.
I smiled. "I feel fortunate to have met him."
"Since your residency has been approved, I have this resident card for you," he held out a sturdy white wooden card with the names of my mates listed on the card and my new house number listed. "Use this to make transactions in town, and you’ll receive a discount wherever you shop, as well as bring it when you use a service." He handed a card to each of my mates. "Resident cards cannot be used by others; they can be used as credit for supplies, five hundred credits per registered family member, including healthy shifted younglings. Female family members count for one thousand credits, including shifted female younglings. Credit has to be paid back, but it can be used at any time. So you never have to worry about your family going without necessities as long as you pay back your credit when you’re able."
"Wow, this is wonderful," I said while taking the card offered to me and passing out the other cards to my mates. "Thank you so much, and give the elders our gratitude."
Then he pulled out a woven basket from a brown leather messenger bag. The basket was larger than the bag he pulled it out of. He noticed my look and smiled. "It’s a space bag; they sell them at the beastcore tool store in town. They can hold a lot of items since they use space cores or aura-infused cores."
He handed the basket to me, which was full of some wooden containers full of different seeds, some dried meats, some flat bread, and an assortment of fruits. In the basket there was also a map of the village. "This is a welcome basket for you. We’re happy to have you here. My name’s Jett, and I do all the deliveries within the village, and my dad does the deliveries outside the village. If you need anything delivered, we’d be happy to help!"
"Thank you so much! I’ll keep that in mind. It’s nice to meet you, Jett," I said while Sam took the basket and went through the different items.
Hey guys, "We should go to that store after we’re settled in."
Sam rubbed his chin, "I’ve heard of them before. We could use a few of them, one for Perla, Oliver, and at least one more for when we go hunting."
"My brother Beck has one, and I’ve seen how well it works. They’re worth buying as long as they’re good quality. Beck will be able to tell, so we should wait until he shows up with Elara. I can sense that they’ll be here soon."
"Really?!" I said. "I’m so excited, I’m going to see Elara again. After we get everything settled here, we should look for available building space to have your practice in," I said to Oliver.
"Actually, if your mate’s a licensed healer, we already have a building available for his use, free of charge," said Jett. "The first beastkin to fill a necessary role gets a building already built for their use without having to pay to use it. Currently, we don’t have a healer, so you would get free use of the building. If you’re willing to take on an apprentice, Mistwood Village is also willing to give you village credits for that on top of your payment for services," said Jett.
"I’m licensed through the Central Beastkin Regulatory Office, so that won’t be an issue. Hmm...I wouldn’t mind taking on an apprentice, though I would have to choose from a large selection of applicants," said Oliver.
"Wonderful! I’ll go back and let the elder council know right now!" Said Jett before flying off.
"I didn’t know there was a regulatory office," I said.
"Yes, the CBRO, I was an apprentice and took the test to get my license. Not all healers are licensed, but to fill certain positions or sell pre-packaged medicine, you have to be licensed," said Oliver.
"Wow, you’re impressive," I said. "I assumed that anyone with some healer knowledge would be able to claim to be a healer. My mate is a licensed healer, that’s kind of hot."
Oliver’s lip quivered and hit tail bounced.
"While we’re waiting, why don’t we all go inside, and I can make you some furniture?"
"First things first, I need the center back room to be turned into a bathroom. I want the same toilet setup that I had you make before, a sink, and I want a tub large enough to fit a couple of beastkin and all of my babies at once. I need a monster-sized tub and a shower. I’ll explain how the shower is going to be made with a drain. Also, can I use a mana crystal charged with water mana to supply water?" I said to Milo.
"Yes! We can do that. Ira has strong water magic, and I have some chargeable mana crystals in my inventory. It won’t be a problem to remove the water jug from the plans and add a crystal instead," said Milo.
"No, don’t remove the water jug. We’ll keep it as a backup water source," I said.
Milo’s hands glowed, and a giant bed appeared. It was a beautiful mattress made from a rich cotton-wool blend, sewn inside cotton and wool fibers, and filled with loose high quality wool and dyed light blue. The mattress faintly glowed with mana.
"Wow! It’s beautiful!" I marveled at it and reached down to touch the incredibly soft mattress.
"Sam gave me some of his personal wool to store in my inventory so that you could have me make items from it," said Milo.
I looked at Sam, who looked away in embarrassment. "Thank you, Sam."
"It’s nothing big, no more than I should do as your mate," Sam said.
"Well, I love it," I said as I sat down on the mattress. It was cushy and sturdy at the same time, hugging my body while giving me support. It kept the perfect temperature, slightly cooler than the air around us, just right. I lay back and let out a happy moan. "Absolutely perfect, and it’s giving off some of your mana, soothing my sore muscles. I love it."
"Oh! That wasn’t my intention; Sam just happens to have a high amount of mana in his wool, and it retains mana well. It is very conductive to mana, though, so we could charge your mattress with mana occasionally. Yes, that would work quite well. We could even sew some mana crystals around the edges of the mattress so that you get a steady stream of mana while you sleep, too. That’ll help make sure our unhatched eggs are born healthy, and your body isn’t put into any strain while you’re pregnant. Yes, that could work!" Said Oliver.
"That’s a great idea! After you’re done making the additions and we test it, I want you to collect some wool from a different source and make a couple of them to sell. We’ll see how well that idea works in the market. I bet it’ll sell really well and could help pregnant females be more comfortable and healthy. I know that some pregnancies are dangerous to females if they don’t have access to enough mana." 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎
"Yes! That’s right! I would like to have another one made for the labor room in my building, which should help prevent females from passing away due to exhaustion. Yes, that would work quite well," said Oliver.
Oliver walked around and sat behind me, massaging my shoulders and back while Milo put together the bathroom the way I wanted.
"I’m going to add some salt to our pool; it’ll help keep the water clean and be healthier for you to swim in," Ira said.
"Do you have enough salt for that?"
"Don’t worry about it. I had Titus store my salt in his space, and I asked him to drop it off before he left. Several large bags are in the backyard as we speak. The pool will be ready for you by the time you want to go swimming."
Ira walked to the front door and out.
"That’s something else we should fix if we can. Can you guys give me a backdoor, this constantly going out the front to get into the backyard will get annoying fast," I said.
"A back door, that won’t be a problem," said Sam. "I’ll get on that right now." He headed over to the side of the wall that wasn’t occupied by a door already and found out where there was a space to make a backdoor, to the left of the room that was turning into the bathroom, and between the third room. "Will here work for you?" said Sam.
"There’s perfect," I said.
"Can you put a basket in there for dirty clothes, too, a countertop, and a large cupboard with shelves? I want a place to store soaps, lotions, and towels, and a place to wash laundry when the weather is nasty outside. I also want a place to hang up laundry to dry indoors when hanging it up outside won’t work," I said.
Milo walked out of the bathroom and handed me a thin white board of wood and a thin stick of charcoal. I looked at it with surprise.
"I thought you might need something to write on to show me what you want me to make," Milo said.
"Thank you! This is perfect," I said and sketched out some drying racks for the side of the room furthest from the toilet with a drain made from hardened clay at the bottom. I put two baskets beneath a table for folding laundry, one for dirty clothes and one for clean. I drew out my plan for a small stand-up shower, because if I don’t have to give up showers, I’m not going to. A large tub and across from the toilet, a sink, and a large cupboard with shelving for bathroom goodies and soft towels. I also designed a ceiling fan, powered by a wind stone. There was a window that was able to be opened made of glass, which I explained what it was made of and described it. When I was done designing my bathroom, I looked it over to make sure I was pleased with its design and handed it to Milo, also making a note that I want wool insulation put into the walls.
Milo took it, and right away he gasped, and his eyes widened. "This is a masterpiece, an absolute masterpiece," he said while holding it reverently.
The other males came rushing over to look at what I had described.
"It’s not all that, those are just some basic things that I want."
"This is revolutionary, everyone will want this," said Milo excitedly.
"Can you make the room like this?" I said.
"Yes! I might need to ask you a couple of questions while I’m working, but I think we can do this. We’ll going to need to find more wool for the insulation, though. Sam didn’t give me enough to take a layer that covers all of the walls," said Milo.
"I have some herb and rock powder that we can add to the wool to prevent bugs and mold from getting into the insulation," said Oliver.
