Warhammer: Starting as a Planetary Governor-Chapter 228 - 229: The Supreme Luxury Edition of the Blackstone Throne
???
Eden stared at the mechanical construct before him, and his heart instantly sank.
Why did this thing look so familiar?
He took a deep breath and confirmed it again, his voice trembling slightly.
"You're telling me… the key is this chair?"
His gut twisted.
This thing—it was practically a black version of the Golden Throne.
Was Kaul trying to set him up?
Or was this fate?
As if, being the Little Sun, he was destined to follow in the Emperor's footsteps.
Was he really going to end up sitting on a throne for eternity, just like the Emperor?
Would they both be forever trapped on their respective "toilets"?
Eden was not amused.
Meanwhile, Kaul was thrilled.
The Savior was so moved by his masterpiece that he was at a loss for words!
Kaul took this as the highest praise!
After all, he had not only replicated the key mechanism to access the Webway but had also optimized it, thanks to his inspired genius.
Puffing out his chest with pride, Kaul strode confidently to the three-meter-tall mechanical construct, several of his mechanical arms lovingly stroking its surface.
"That's right! This is the key.
But it is not just any chair.
This is a marvel of technology, combining the knowledge of multiple species into one magnificent creation!"
He gestured dramatically.
"I have named it—the Blackstone Throne!"
Kaul continued, his tone full of excitement.
"The original throne was too crude, too cold, too unrefined.
So, I improved upon it.
My Blackstone Throne is not only superior in performance but also far more comfortable!
A perfect blend of practicality and comfort!"
Given that this was the biggest project he had ever undertaken, and considering that the stingy Savior had granted him unlimited resources—
He had to repay that trust with perfection!
Kaul had poured his heart and soul into making the Blackstone Throne as flawless as possible.
To ensure maximum comfort, he had even sought the head maid Linda's opinion, making additional modifications based on her suggestions.
This was, without a doubt, the greatest creation of the genius Kaul!
Kaul was so moved by his own sincerity and dedication that he nearly teared up.
Eden, however, frowned as he stepped forward to examine the so-called Blackstone Throne.
It was, without a doubt, a purely mechanical construct—its interior filled with an intricate network of conduits and circuits.
A massive mechanical interface loomed behind it, with hundreds, if not thousands, of colossal cables connecting the throne to the Blackstone Gate.
Eden forced a smile.
"The optimization you mentioned… you didn't just add a cushion to it, did you?"
The Blackstone Throne had clearly been decorated.
The seat was now covered in luxurious velvet cushions.
The metallic surfaces were inlaid with black-gray alloys and gemstones…
Oh, fantastic. How thoughtful.
It was literally a luxury soft-cushioned toilet.
Ridiculous. Absolutely ridiculous.
Eden patted the Blackstone Throne and let out a dry chuckle—one that sounded more pained than amused.
"Of course not!"
The source of this c𝐨ntent is freeweɓnovēl.coɱ.
Kaul was offended that the Savior had not yet grasped the depth of his genius.
He immediately corrected him.
"This is not just a superficial redesign! There are countless ingenious enhancements!"
Eden raised an eyebrow, his voice filled with wariness.
"You're not about to tell me the 'enhancements' include a seat-warming function, are you?"
Because he knew how Kaul's mind worked.
After all, he himself had been a bad influence on the Mechanicus.
Normally, tech-priests did not prioritize comfort.
Just look at their Dreadnoughts—those war machines were literal pain chambers for their pilots.
But ever since Eden introduced quality-of-life improvements, Kaul and his fellow tech-priests had strayed from the traditional Mechanicus doctrine.
In a way, this was a good thing.
Kaul blinked in mild surprise.
He hadn't expected the Savior to understand his thought process so well.
He grinned.
"Indeed, the Blackstone Throne does have a heating function.
But I didn't add it manually.
The cushions are made of special materials that conduct psychic energy, generating natural warmth as the energy flows through them!"
Eden went stiff.
You've got to be kidding me.
He had jokingly mentioned it—only to find out that the damn thing actually had heating.
And that was just the beginning.
Kaul enthusiastically continued his sales pitch.
For example—
🔹 The built-in storage compartments, which included a food warmer and cooler—basically a mini-fridge.
🔹 Special mechanical adjustments to enhance seating comfort.
🔹 And, most importantly, an integrated office suite.
Kaul pressed a button on the armrest.
With a smooth mechanical whir—
A fully functional work station unfolded from the side of the throne.
A large mechanical screen appeared, along with communications equipment capable of linking to the entire sector.
All of it was housed in energy-resistant casings and micro force fields to prevent psychic interference.
Kaul beamed with pride.
"With these enhancements, you can conduct official business while operating the Blackstone Throne!"
…Wow. Just… wow.
Eden almost wanted to applaud this madman.
Sitting on this "Blackstone Toilet" while being forced to work overtime—what kind of hellish experience was this?
Taking a deep breath, Eden patted Kaul's shoulder.
Then he asked the real question:
"Can someone else operate this thing?"
After all, the Psychic Academy had recruited a good number of powerful psykers.
For security reasons, his domain had strict regulations on psykers.
The Interior Ministry had issued policies encouraging psykers to register, offering generous benefits and better living conditions.
At Urth's Psychic Academy, psykers could live and work in a specially designed city, equipped with energy pipelines from the Little Sun to suppress Warp interference.
This allowed them to live normal lives, free from nightmares.
It also created a safer environment for studying psychic powers.
In the past, psykers lived in fear, hiding from Imperial purges.
Now, they were proudly declaring their status to take advantage of government benefits.
With so many powerful psykers available, surely one of them could operate the Blackstone Throne instead of him… right?
Right?
Kaul's next words crushed that hope.
Kaul shook his head.
"Before you returned, we conducted multiple tests with the Psychic Academy.
Even the strongest psyker there couldn't handle the throne's energy drain.
The moment the Blackstone Throne activated, their psychic reserves were instantly drained.
If I hadn't cut the connection in time, they would have suffered serious injuries—possibly fatal ones."
Eden pointed at himself.
"So… you're saying I'm the only one who can operate this thing?"
The Emperor, at least, had Malcador to help carry the burden.
But Eden?
He had no one.
Kaul nodded with conviction, his mechanical arms twitching with excitement.
"Yes! Only you can control this magnificent machine!"
Kaul saw this as a blessing from the Omnissiah.
If only he had psychic power—he too would have wanted to sit on this legendary throne.
Too bad.
What a tragedy.
At that moment, a Tech-Sage arrived and rapidly spoke in binary.
Kaul turned to Eden with excitement.
"Savior, the mechanical systems are fully calibrated!
All departments are on standby—we are ready to initiate the test!"
Everyone on the platform turned to Eden, their eyes filled with awe and anticipation.
He would activate this grand machine—
And they would witness a miracle.
Eden shivered.
Why did this feel like he was being led to his execution?
But the project had taken too many resources to abandon now.
And he had already mentally prepared himself.
Taking a deep breath—
"Alright," he declared.
"Let's begin the test."
Eden gritted his teeth and made up his mind.
After all, the Blackstone Gate was intact—far more stable than the Emperor's hastily repaired Webway had ever been.
There shouldn't be too much risk.
"Alright then, Savior! Please take your seat!"
Kaul was ecstatic, scurrying over to operate the machinery like an eager child.
As one of the leading members of the Webway Preliminary Research and Observation Team, he could hardly wait to activate the Blackstone Gate and enter the Webway for the first time.
Eden took a deep breath, mentally preparing himself, before settling onto the Blackstone Throne.
He shifted slightly.
Emmm...
He had to admit—Kaul's design was actually pretty good.
The cushioning was plush, well-fitted, and surprisingly comfortable…
Several mechanical arms extended, attaching various conduction devices to his body.
The inner material of the conduits was soft, making their contact with his skin not particularly unpleasant.
Kaul approached, offering a final reminder:
"Savior, once the green light turns on, all you need to do is channel your psychic energy at full capacity—everything else will be handled automatically.
You are free to move, as long as your body remains seated on the throne and you continue channeling psychic power."
Then, as if recalling something, he smacked his forehead.
"Oh, right! If you feel uncomfortable sitting, you can recline—the backrest adjusts!"
"Simply press this button, and you can set it to any angle you prefer."
Eden was stunned.
Damn… Kaul really had absorbed his design philosophy.
What he didn't know, however, was that many of these features had been strongly insisted upon by Linda, the head maid.
To incorporate all of her requests, Kaul had pulled multiple all-nighters.
Of course, he was quite satisfied with Linda's suggestions.
He had even snuck in a few of his own 'creative' additions.
Eden pressed the adjustment button, reclining the Blackstone Throne into a semi-laying position.
Much better.
…
He suddenly thought—the Emperor's Golden Throne was actually kind of crude in comparison.
This was the superior toilet.
But then, he immediately caught himself.
Why was he comparing toilets?
Why was he competing over which one was more comfortable?
This was ridiculous!
Soon, Kaul finished the final calibrations.
He casually reached into the Blackstone Throne's storage compartment and grabbed a can of ice-cold cola.
Then, he left.
RUMBLE—
Mechanical gears shifted.
Thick alloy plating rose around the Blackstone Throne, sealing Eden inside a closed chamber.
The plating served a dual purpose:
🔹 Containing the dispersed psychic energy to reduce waste.
🔹 Providing protection against potential attacks.
The alloy armor was reinforced with a force field, capable of withstanding warship-grade firepower for a short time.
Of course, if enemies ever breached this area, it would mean the entire sector was already in a state of catastrophic crisis.
And if the threat came from within the Blackstone Gate itself…
Well, in that case, the alloy plating would be repurposed as battlefield cover.
Inside the chamber, the alloy plates locked into place, plunging the space into complete darkness.
HUMMM—
A soft light flickered on.
Then—
Eden began discovering the many additional features that Kaul had conveniently failed to mention.
Because, of course, Kaul wanted to surprise him!
🔹 Adjustable lighting settings.
🔹 Temperature control system.
🔹 Music input and output.
🔹 Gaming consoles.
🔹 Aromatherapy diffusers.
…
Wait a damn minute.
The most basic feature—a multi-functional toilet—was also present.
Well… a toilet inside a throne wasn't exactly unexpected at this point.
But there was more.
A fully automated shower and cleansing system.
And then—
🔹 Kitchen appliances.
…
Hold on.
KAUL BUILT A KITCHEN INTO THIS THING?!
He expected him to cook while sitting on the damn throne?!
Absolutely insane.
Eden was completely speechless.
Kaul had somehow shoved every possible feature into this thing.
Had he just dumped every random idea that popped into his head into this design?
Knowing Kaul's usual thought process, the answer was probably yes.
Eden sighed deeply and stopped exploring.
This was too much.
Enough surprises for one day.
BEEP—
The green light turned on.
That meant everything was ready.
The only thing left was for Eden to activate the Blackstone Throne.
Once activated, the throne would channel signals through its intricate mechanical conduits, controlling the Blackstone Gate and opening a passage into the Webway.
After confirming the stability of the passage—
Duke, Kaul, and the thousand-member Webway Exploration Team would board escort ships and enter the Webway for initial reconnaissance.
Eden felt a twinge of nervousness.
Once he activated the Blackstone Throne, events would spiral into unpredictable territory.
But there was no turning back now.
Zzzzt—
Tiny golden arcs of electricity crackled as Eden channeled his psychic power.
The arcs thickened, surging outward, enveloping his entire body.
But that wasn't enough.
He increased his output, pushing it toward his limit.
His entire form blazed with golden radiance.
"Blackstone Throne—Activate!"
HUMMMMM—
The throne rumbled to life.
The surging psychic energy was immediately absorbed, leaving only a faint golden aura around his body.
Soon, his entire psychic reservoir was drained.
Thankfully, the Little Sun within him replenished his energy, allowing him to continuously supply psychic power.
As the mechanical behemoth roared to life, vast amounts of psychic energy flowed through its circuitry, channeling directly into the Blackstone Gate.
RUMBLE—
Eden felt the entire platform vibrate.
The Blackstone Gate had begun its activation sequence.
Now able to move freely, he reached out—
A mechanical screen appeared, displaying the external view.
The Blackstone Gate trembled, its intricate rune patterns glowing.
The psychic energy funneled into four crystalline nodes, condensing into converging beams aimed at the central ring of the gate.
The fabric of reality itself trembled.
A crack formed in the void—
Dark pink Warp energy leaked out.
The energy twisted and swirled, slowly coalescing into a stable portal.
The Blackstone Gate had successfully activated.
Cheers erupted from the outside.
Eden felt a brief rush of exhilaration, but quickly composed himself.
There was no point in celebrating alone.
Maintaining the Blackstone Throne was not difficult.
There was a mild stinging sensation, but given his enhanced physique, it was negligible.
The only real issue—
Was the feeling of confinement.
For the first time, he truly understood the greatness and sacrifice of the Emperor.
For ten thousand years, the Emperor had sat alone on the Golden Throne, unable to move, speak, or escape his pain.
Now, Eden found himself seated on his own throne, alone and immobile.
…
Of course, his situation was temporary.
And thankfully, the Blackstone Throne's modifications made things far more enjoyable.
At least he could communicate with the outside world.
At least he wasn't trapped in complete sensory isolation.
At least his toilet was better.
For once, Eden was grateful for Kaul's ridiculous upgrades.
If something went wrong and he got stuck here, at least he wouldn't go insane from boredom.
He could still govern the sector from his throne.
Even if he had to stay seated, he could last years.
…
Wait.
Oh no.
Eden's expression darkened.
Had he just jinxed himself?
At that moment—
A faint psychic premonition rippled through him.
A subtle, ominous shift in the Warp…
A foreboding sense of change…
