Wasteland Commander-Chapter 364 - 55: Armed Zombies
Before the Dawn Army attacked Yungang, no one expected the battle at Yungang to end so easily.
With an army of one hundred thousand, two aircraft carrier fleets, and the advantage of terrain for defense, it seemed impossible for the Dawn Army, with its mere tens of thousands, to win so easily, no matter how strong they were.
But unexpectedly, a Sea Monster appeared, capsizing Shanshen Country’s prideful fleets, and then Ye Fan, showing no regard for rules, dropped Mushroom Bombs directly on Shanshen Country’s positions.
After two Mushroom Bombs, any fighting spirit vanished, leaving surrender as the only option.
The beachhead was lost, and the local troops of Yungang prudently raised the white flag, knowing it was futile. Without firing a shot, forty thousand soldiers collectively surrendered.
By then, three of the four main base cities in Loose Province had already fallen into the hands of the Dawn Army.
Now, only the Daqiang base city near the South Lake was holding out, stationed by over a hundred thousand troops, but they dared not act recklessly.
Their only hope now was for Zheng Jinnan’s forces from Jiangzhou to arrive swiftly and fight alongside them, for it might give them a slight chance. Otherwise, Loose Province would soon be in Ye Fan’s pocket.
Fortunately, Zheng Jinnan had some credibility. Under the urging of those at the Daqiang base, he finally sent a troop trained in anti-drone warfare to support the Daqiang battlefield.
He understood the military might of the Dawn Army, and Jiangzhou’s forces were not without the ability to fight.
Many feared Ye Fan might continue dropping Mushroom Bombs, but Zheng Jinnan thought otherwise. After all, Ye Fan had promised on television that he would not be the first to use Mushroom Bombs in the Qin Han civil war, so there was no need to worry excessively.
Zheng Jinnan even speculated that as long as the Dawn Army wasn’t too heavily threatened, endangering Ye Fan’s foundation, Mushroom Bombs would likely not appear on the Qin Han civil war battlefields.
Conventional troop engagements would proceed, as Jiangzhou did not lack manpower. With Ye Fan’s rise, many bases conquered saw their people fleeing to Jiangzhou, filling it to capacity. If he wished, he could raise a new army of one million at any time.
Thus, Zheng Jinnan planned for a long-term war, using the strategy of boiling a frog in warm water, to slowly wear down Ye Fan.
However, things never go as planned. Three days after Zheng Jinnan’s troops set out, a reconnaissance unit reported movement among the zombie horde in the southeast county.
.......
Jiangkou County.
Once occupied by over ten million zombies, now not a single zombie was left unmanaged.
The entire county’s zombies had fallen under the sway of four Corpse Kings.
As for the millions of extra zombies, they were summoned by several Corpse Kings to feed the elite minions.
With the full effort of these Corpse Kings and countless upgrade materials, an elite army was forged.
Among the current horde of ten million zombies, ordinary zombies accounted for approximately six million.
This ratio was already very low, as the normal zombie proportion in the apocalypse was usually one mutant per hundred regular zombies.
And among one hundred Armored or Agile Zombies, only one King Kong or Crawler would appear, meaning King Kong’s proportion in ordinary hordes was about one in ten thousand.
As for Tyrannosaurus Zombies, the probability was less than one in a million, with wild Tyrannosaurus being rare without the cultivation by a Corpse King.
In the current horde of ten million zombies, six million were ordinary zombies, with only about two million actually being zombies.
Another two million were Mutant Rats and Mutant Beasts.
And two million consisted of various Mutated Birds, such as sparrows, swallows, crows, and magpies, ordinary bird species.
The remaining four million were extraordinary.
Two million were Mutated Zombies, with about five hundred thousand each of Armored Zombies and Agile Zombies.
Another one million were those Fat Zombies capable of spraying strong acid.
Ninety million were High-Level Mutant Beasts, such as venomous snakes, large lizards, cats and dogs, weasels, wild boars, and wild wolves.
Another ninety million were Advanced bird species, like eagles, owls, cranes, flamingos, peacocks, and other large birds.
Lastly, out of twenty million, over nineteen million were Level 2 Zombies.
King Kong and Crawlers, formidable monsters, now numbered over nineteen million.
Another four to five thousand were Level 3 Zombies, super-large Mutant Beasts, and Mutant Beast Kings.
These included Rat Kings leading rat hordes, Bird Kings leading avian species, as well as some Mutant Tigers and Mutant Elephants.
Of course, there were also over a thousand Tyrannosaurus and a thousand Lickers.
These were the core elite force of the horde, crafted by the four Corpse Kings, turning millions of zombies and Mutant Beasts into upgrade materials for the most terrifying zombie horde.
Back when Little One and several Corpse Kings besieged Ice City, they summoned zombies close to ten million, but compared to this horde, they were unworthy even of being bootlaces.
Not to mention, alone those thousand Tyrannosaurus were almost invincible.
Moreover, this is not the end; for the past few days, Wang Huining has been trying to arm these zombies.
He suggested to Little One to control the zombies and have them fight with weapons.
Initially, Wang Huining even fancifully wanted zombies to wield guns; if each of these zombies were equipped with a firearm, he was confident they could sweep the globe.
Unfortunately, the zombies’ brains simply can’t achieve this, and Little One couldn’t control them either.
Helplessly, he had to abandon this tempting idea, and settled for allowing zombies to use cold weapons.
Old Tan and Xiaoxue both experimented, and it simply didn’t work; the ability they currently possessed only matched that of Little One back then, and it was impossible for zombies to use weapons. Describing a zombie’s brain as that of a pig would be an insult to pigs, as it was even less capable than pigs.
All hope rested on Little One, this clearly more advanced Corpse King, who earnestly tried to follow Wang Huining’s instructions, but the results were not ideal.
Ordinary zombies were completely like wood, unable to do anything.
Mutated Zombies were slightly better, but only just a bit. They were almost like fools, unable to use weapons either.
Level 2 Zombies were somewhat smarter, comparable to those with intellectual disabilities; they could at least pick up a weapon and sometimes swing it a few times, but in the next moment, who knows where they might throw it.
So, Level 2 Zombies didn’t work; only Level 3 Zombies could barely understand the Corpse King’s instructions.
Although the number of Level 3 Zombies was scarce, it already made Wang Huining ecstatic.
Thus, within a day, Wang Huining cooperated with Little One to equip the Level 3 Zombies.
These Tyrannosaurus standing six or seven meters tall all held a gigantic weapon.
Whether it was a tree trunk, a utility pole, or a giant billboard, as long as it’s beneficial for swinging, it could be held as a weapon.
And their bodies, specifically their heads, were fortified with strong protection.
The shells of cars were directly dismantled by them and put on their heads.
The heads of these Tyrannosaurus Zombies were larger than water tanks; fitting them with car shells was not an issue. Wang Huining even sourced a large amount of glue-like adhesive from a factory to bond iron plates and other metal objects onto their heads.
Only leaving an eye and mouth exposed was enough; as long as they could see things, smell scents, and eat food, it sufficed.
After all, zombies don’t know discomfort; having car shells atop their heads and iron plates stuck doesn’t make them uneasy.
The same goes for those Lickers; vital parts were also fortified, and these iron plates didn’t affect their speed much. However, with their defense already being extremely formidable, this made them nearly indestructible.
Especially when facing fragile humans, the threat posed by these Lickers was even greater than that of the Tyrannosaurus; should these entities climb human walls or enter cities, it would simply be a disaster.
Just like that, Wang Huining created a terrifying zombie army.
Approximately three thousand Level 3 Zombies emerged like demons from the abyss of hell.
For days, they were evolving and arming themselves in the county town. 𝚏𝐫𝚎𝗲𝕨𝐞𝐛𝕟𝚘𝐯𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝗺
In the end, he even forcibly installed protective gear on the fat zombies.
Protecting their heads and bellies, these fat zombies were also terrifying weapons of mass destruction.
After ten days, these projects were finally completed, and Wang Huining couldn’t help but want to venture out.
"Xiaobu, Xiaoxue, Old Tan, we’ve finally succeeded! Next, it’s time for humans to recognize our power!"
The Corpse Kings like Xiaobu were relatively quiet; although they could speak, their speech wasn’t very fluent.
In contrast, Xiaoxue’s linguistic abilities were slightly better, while Xiaobu, despite being higher in rank than Xiaoxue, wasn’t as fluent in speech as Xiaoxue.
Upon hearing Wang Huining’s incitement, the eyes of several Corpse Kings turned red.
"Let’s go out, kill them all!"
"Want to eat, want lots and lots of food!"
"The clothes and cosmetics here are no good; I want to go to Jiangzhou for a look...."
Wang Huining somewhat helplessly glanced at Xiaoxue, feeling this female Corpse King was somewhat distinct; she lacked such a heavy inclination for killing. When they arrived, she even stopped eating raw flesh, desiring human food instead.
She was still concerned about dressing up and being vain, having no big aspirations. If not for the arrival of his group, she might have continued surviving in this county town until the day she’d be eliminated by humans.
But now things are different; under his leadership, this horde is bound to accomplish earth-shattering deeds, of that Wang Huining had no doubt.
Despite him being the weakest in battle among the four Corpse Kings, he was the leader of this group.
Except for the chip implanted in his brain making him fear seeking trouble with Ye Fan, every other living person was his target, his prey!
"Let’s go, let’s take a look at Jiangzhou; the population there is slightly more than our horde. When the time comes, each zombie can get a person to eat; once we capture this place, I will establish a horde without ordinary zombies, composed entirely of Mutated Zombies! In this world, the era of the Corpse Kings is coming!"
