Welcome To Hell, Dear Wife-Chapter 59: Betrothed
Lucas didn’t bother knocking.
He merely shoved Callis’ door open hard enough to make it bounce off the wall, letting his anger get the best of him.
"Why the hell—"
But the words died in his throat.
Because Callis was standing in the middle of her room wearing nothing but scraps of black lace. Transparent and leaving nothing to the imagination.
Lucas spun around so fast that he nearly stumbled. "Damn it, Callis."
Callis, on the other hand, merely laughed in a low and throaty manner, completely unbothered by his reaction. "I never thought you had a little modesty in you, Lucas. How refreshing."
He stared at her with his jaw so tight that even his own teeth hurt. "I’m sorry for barging in like that, just put something on."
He started to hear fabric rustling behind him in a very slow manner that infuriated him but only a little.
Is she seriously doing that on purpose? But of course she is, everything Callis does is always so calculated.
"You can turn around now, Lucas." Her voice came with a little tease and amusement in them. "Though I don’t mind you seeing me that way. It’s very cool with me."
Lucas turned while making sure to keep his expression stone cold.
He saw that she had thrown on a silk robe, another black one even though that too didn’t reach her mid-thigh even, and she hadn’t tied it either.
The fabric, in fact, hung open in a deep V, still very much revealing the lace beneath and far too much skin.
Lucas kept his eyes locked on her face though.
"Why did you take her to that party without my consent even?"
Callis let out that same light laugh that always made his blood pressure spike. "One would think the person you’re talking about is your child or something."
She then moved closer with that grace she always had. Lucas was sure she hadn’t even learned it anywhere, she just had it. She also made sure that her hips swayed dramatically as she came to him.
"She’s a grown woman, Lucas, she can go to a club."
"That’s not the point at all!" His voice came out louder than he expected. "The point is why was she drunk? Why was she leaving with that bastard? As a matter of fact, why did you leave her alone if you took her there? Why did you even come home without her when you went there with her?"
Why weren’t you there to be by her side if you would take her out?
Callis just shrugged, the movement making her robe slip further off the shoulder in a casual yet very calculated way. It was like they were meant to distract.
"She’s a grown woman, she can be with whomever she wants."
She invaded his private space with the confidence of a woman who had never been told the word no.
Close enough that he could smell her perfume, jasmine.
"Plus she’s the one who wanted to go there, she even begged me to take her because she wants to start doing something about her reputation."
Callis pushed to watch his face carefully as if reading every micro expression to decode a language only she understood. "And frankly speaking, she needs to do that to remain relevant if she’ll make a comeback. She only happened to meet her ex there and I don’t know why she was so ecstatic about that. But it’s none of my business."
Lucas felt his eye twitch.
The word had hit him badly. Ecstatic.
Lorena was ecstatic to meet that man?
But he hated the fresh anger that went through his body.
Why do I even care? She’s just a tool, nothing at all.
And Callis wasn’t done. "You act like you guys are really married or something." She said as she traced one finger down the center of his chest while moving with such infuriating slowness.
"I don’t even get why you’re so pissed about this? What’s it to you?"
Because she’s still my wife whether or not it’s for revenge or not!
But he couldn’t bring himself to say that out loud.
Callis’s hand continued its downward journey, past his chest, over his stomach and down to his belt.
Then even lower.
Her palm pressed against the bulge that Lucas himself now realized was still painfully obvious in his trousers. The evidence of arousal that he couldn’t hide no matter how hard he had tried.
"I see that you got hard just from seeing me just now. Or is it from hearing me change?" She purred like a satisfied cat as confidence radiated all around her.
Her smile even turned victorious. "I always knew you wanted me so bad. You couldn’t have been practicing such abstinence for no reason."
Lucas scoffed internally.
If only she knew that it had nothing at all to do with her half-naked self nor even her wandering hands. Nothing at all to do with her.
He wasn’t even getting aroused by anything she was doing. And that made him stop in his own thoughts.
Was that normal? Where’s the biology now?
When Lorena was doing the same thing, he was literally so...
He shook his own thoughts away and pushed Callis’s hand away, harder than necessary.
"What do you think you’re doing, Callis?" His voice came out weary and almost drained now, like he was tired of fighting battles like this all day, like he had no energy at all left for this particular one.
Callis didn’t retreat at all. Instead, she closed the distance again, making sure to press against him this time until he could feel the heat of her body through his clothes.
"What does it look like I’m doing?" She whispered.
And before he could push her away again, she began planting soft open-mouthed kisses along his jaw.
Moving down to his neck and finding his pulse point, then lingering there with the expertise of someone who knew exactly what they were doing.
"I know that you’ve always wanted this too, Lucas. Always." Her voice had turned to some sort of seduction level all of a sudden.
"And we are going to get married at the end of this all, aren’t we?"
Hearing her say that brought back memories of the arrangement to Lucas.
The betrothal that their families had agreed to before all of the tragedy that had happened.
Lucas was sure that if all that hadn’t happened, he would have been married to Callis by now because it was always inevitable.
Callis’s hands roamed across his back as her nails dragged lightly through his shirt. She pulled him closer to eliminate any space between their bodies.
"So why wait?" Her lips moved to his ear as her voice dropped to something that Lucas couldn’t even call a whisper. "We’re betrothed."
