What Do You Mean I Have To Comprehend Dao As A Mortal God?-Chapter 74: The Issues With Their Colony
Right now, the colony seemed to be quiet again.
But if you were to pay closer attention, you might hear the sobs and groans that were happening around the place.
My Guardians and I were gathered at the hole that the bunny sisters had blown open that allowed the Anomalies to flood into the colony. Kris had recovered enough to walk at the very least and I wasn’t sure if I had any skill to heal him using the Qi energy but he told me he would be fine.
I decided that I would try to heal him once we dealt with this problem first.
For now, they had moved some improvised barricades in front of the hole though it was more to hide it than to seal it as we already know the Anomalies could just blow their way past the barricades if they really wanted to.
Sagia was seated on top of one of the conveyor belts, their entire production line having being destroyed by the Anomalies that had stormed through here earlier.
It was clear that she was in distress by the way she was hugging her legs close to herself while rocking back and forth, though her sisters weren’t in any better condition either.
"We screwed up..." Sagia sighed.
Maylene shook her head, "You couldn’t have known... You can’t blame yourself for this."
"No... I pushed ahead with this because I didn’t want to accept it... If it wasn’t for me... We wouldn’t be in this situation now..."
Netty, the redhead bunny girl, went over to place her hand on Sagia’s shoulder, "It wouldn’t have changed anything anyway... You only moved it up because... Because they came."
I was not an idiot of course so I crossed my arms and nodded at them, "I think at this point, you might as well just come clean with what is going on. It’s clear that there’s some problems here and you’ve involved your entire colony because of our presence."
Maylene opened her mouth but stopped and turned to Sagia as though asking for permission to speak.
Sagia sighed, "I suppose... It’s inevitable... What do you think when you see our colony? Do you think we’re thriving?"
"I would say you’re surviving at the very least," I admitted.
She scoffed, "You would be right in a way... We are indeed just surviving... Barely..."
She then beckoned towards us, "Come with me..."
The auburn haired bunny girl hopped off the conveyor belt to start leading us through the mess of destroyed machines towards a tunnel opening at the back where several pipes were connected to.
I left Sergei, Jia Lian, Leena and Kris behind to watch over the barricade, just in case those Anomalies tried to break through the hole again.
The tunnel led deeper downwards, Olivia and Ava needing to duck their heads as the tunnel got smaller due to the pipes running above us.
We eventually reached a cavern where the pipes were connected to a single machine that was placed at the edge of a large, gaping hole where a wire mesh had been installed to cover it up.
On the machine was a screen which lit up when Sagia went over to start interacting with its controls.
She pressed a few buttons and the screen changed to show what looked like a water level indicator.
The five bunny girls turned to face me as I read what was displayed on the screen.
If I’m not wrong... Judging by the indicator on the screen... This was supposed to be their source of water which had now reached almost empty levels.
The water must have reached the wire mesh at one point but after staying down here for over ten years, they were running out of it.
"We tried to make a filtration system to reuse water but... Even with that, it’s not an infinite supply..." Maylene explained.
"How much do you have left?" I asked.
"Probably enough to last us at most half a year or so..." Sagia admitted.
Honestly, that’s not that bad.
Olivia turned towards them, "I suppose that is why you are desperate in trying to expand your base of operations to try and look for a new water source?"
Sagia nodded, "Since we found the crystals near this pool of water, we were hoping that if we mined deeper, we could find another source of water that we could exploit..."
Olivia shook her head, "Unfortunately, that’s not the case..."
"Yes... We are aware of that now..."
I gestured towards Maylene, "And I’m guessing you were also sent to accompany us to see what our world is like so that you can consider if you could move over, right?"
Maylene scratched her cheek, "Ehehe... I suppose that was pretty obvious?"
Netty, the blue haired sister of the group, gave us a worried look, "Does this... Does this mean that we won’t be allowed to move over?"
Olivia shook her head, "As we might have mentioned to Maylene, our World is designated as a Sanctuary World where we welcome refugees fleeing from other Worlds that are being attacked by Anomalies. Which in your world, you call them Rock Munchers."
Sagia’s eyes widened, "Does... Does this mean you would take us in? You would let us go to your world? We already heard from Maylene earlier but... Your world is basically full of resources, isn’t it?"
I grimaced, "I wouldn’t say we are ’full’ of resources, but I suppose when compared to your current situation, it certainly is a lot better."
Olivia nodded, "We would welcome you to seek a new home in our world, but that would also mean that you are expected to pull your weight in helping out."
Sagia actually started bouncing on the spot, her large assets bobbing up and down distractingly.
"Of course!! We aren’t that picky!! If you just lend us a place, we will do whatever work you want us to do!!"
Damn... For her to promise something like that... They must be pretty desperate... Something tells me that it’s not just the water that was running out.
I turned to Olivia, "Do we need to discuss this with the people in charge?"
Olivia smiled at me, "Oh, I already came prepared, my Lord. As of yesterday night, St. John’s Island and its surroundings are officially your property."
I blinked at her, "What?"
"The entire island is yours, my Lord. You are free to do whatever you wish with it. My suggestion, however, is to use it as our base of operations. It would be close enough to the main land that we can respond to any portal appearances but also detached from the main land which would make it harder for outsiders to infiltrate, ensuring what happened that day never happens again."
Wait, wait... You’re telling me I own an entire island now? Damn...
At least I don’t intend to use that island like a specific trafficker that recently got exposed.
Olivia then turned towards the bunny girls, "Right now, we have an island that we would like to develop into a base of sorts. If you agree to it, your colony can be moved there to settle and you will work directly under my Lord as part of his retinue. That is, if you agree to it of course. If you would prefer, we could set all of you up as normal citizens instead and you will integrate into our society normally."
Sagia stopped bouncing to look at me, "Are you... Important in your world?"
I grimaced slightly and looked at Olivia, wondering if she was planning to reveal my position.
Olivia took a step forward, "Before we answer that, I would like to get your answer on whether you would like to serve under him or integrate as ordinary citizens?"
"Which of these choices would allow us to stay together and work with materials like we have?"
"Hmm... I would say that serving under my Lord would give you that, especially since we would need to build a new base to house everyone."
"Then we will serve you! Please take care of us!!" Sagia responded without hesitation, bouncing up and down again.
The rest of her sisters also bounced alongside her and I assume that this was what they would do when they get excited over something.
Olivia nodded, "Very well, I would ask that you prepare your colony to move towards the portal as soon as possible. After all, we have now figured out that your colony is compromised and no longer safe. How soon can you move?"
"Give us a week... No! Just three days!! Three days to pack everything we need and we will be able to move! Wait... Is our tech higher than yours?"
I nodded at her, "There are some things that you have that we don’t, to be honest."
"Hmm... Then yes, three days is all we need! Is that possible?"
"Of course. That is more than enough. We welcome you to join us."
The five of them cheered and started hugging each other.
The only thing I could think of was the fact that I was now the owner of an island... Damn that’s crazy...
