Chapter 98: Explode The Diamond

I rushed forward to engage the Anomaly again, my sword clashing against its diamond arm.

After it transformed its arms into the blade shapes, it was able to clash against my sword without showing any cracks so if I wanted to do damage to it, I would need to strike it in its chest area.

I swung my sword once more, aiming to cut in between its arms to target its body but it moved a step back and deflected my blow away with one of its sword arms.

It then tried to stab me with its other arm and I had to spin out of the way as the sword pierced through the space where my head would have been.

I reached out my hand and shot a lightning bolt at it, striking it in the chest and causing it to stumble a step back before I kicked off the ground to leap into the air.

I changed my gravity and shot back down towards the Anomaly, my sword slashing downwards aiming to cleave it into two.

The diamond creature unfortunately managed to respond in time and crossed its swords above its head, blocking my sword from reaching its body.

The impact still resulted in an ear splitting crash as it sank a few feet into the ground before it slashed its swords in an arc, pushing me away from it.

I flipped myself and landed on my feet, the creature immediately trying to catch me off guard as it rushed at me with one of its swords raised.

I raised up my sword and materialised a shadow tendril that wrapped around its wrist, pulling it back.

The tendril was not strong enough to stop its advance but the Anomaly did end up jerking back a little which gave me the opening to slip under its arm and slash my sword right at its chest.

My sword struck its chest area with a loud crash and the entire Anomaly was sent flying away to crash into the wall.

I stood my ground with my sword raised up in front of me and the dust soon cleared to reveal the Anomaly pulling itself out from the wall with a large slash across its chest.

Looks like it’s working.

It rushed at me, the wound not even slowing it down as it swung its sword arms wildly at me.

I was forced to be on the defensive as I ducked, sidestepped and parried the blows it sent my way, trying to find an opening I could exploit.

In the meantime, the other Anomalies around us were still getting bombarded by the Vanguards and soldiers from above, the only reason why we had not been shot at was because we were fighting a distance away from the slope near a small alcove that was partially shielded from above.

I saw my chance to deal more damage to it when it overextended and tried to stab me with one of its swords.

I sidestepped the blow and moved past its guard, the Anomaly attempting to correct its mistake by swinging the other arm at me.

I lifted my own sword to block the blow before infusing my free hand with lightning and punching forward, striking it in the chest and blowing it away to crash into the wall once again, a cloud of dust obscuring it from view.

This time, instead of waiting for it to gather itself again, I rushed after it, pressing my advantage and thrusting my sword towards where it had landed.

I felt my sword strike something hard before the hair on the back of my neck stood up.

Trusting my instincts, I ducked my head right before the Anomaly swung its sword and sliced through the dust cloud, cleaving the space above my head.

The dust cloud was swept aside to reveal that it had protected its chest with the flat of its blade arm and my sword had struck the blade instead of its chest.

I couldn’t help but click my teeth in annoyance before I got shoved back by the Anomaly.

It seemed to have realised that just using its sword skills alone made it no match for me and it smashed its swords into the ground to cause several pieces of rock to rise up into the air, the rocks breaking apart and reshaping themselves into arrows.

Tsk... Two can play at that game...

Right before it shot the rock arrows at me, I stomped down hard on the ground, causing a part of the floor to crack and raise itself up.

I grabbed the chunk of earth and pulled it up, using it as an improvised shield before the arrows flew towards me and embedded themselves into the wall.

I then braced myself on a foot before kicking the wall forward, launching it at the Anomaly before I leapt after it.

The Anomaly used its ability to redirect the earthen wall away from it but was not expecting to see me directly behind it.

I let out a yell and leapt the last few metres, thrusting my sword towards its chest again.

It tried to raise one of its swords to block it but I materialised another shadow tendril to grab its wrist to stop it, right as I accelerated myself with my manipulation of gravity to push forward.

My sword that was covered in the blue arcane energy plunged into the chest of the Anomaly, the blade sinking halfway into the creature.

If it had a mouth, it would probably be screaming right now.

Not wanting to leave anything to chance, I channeled lightning through the sword and started electrocuting it from the inside.

I wasn’t sure if it was even effective against a creature that seemed to be made out of diamond but my question was answered when the back of the Anomaly exploded, leaving a gaping hole in its chest.

The Anomaly wobbled for a moment before it fell back to crash onto the ground, unmoving.

Oh... Nice.

I was even thinking that if that didn’t work, I would use my trump card and will a reality where it had its energy sucked out by me or something.

Actually...

I focused my senses towards the dead Anomaly, trying to sense if it had life energy that I could absorb.

The moment I did so, my vision was filled with a bright, muddied light.

Unsurprisingly, the life energy must also be corrupted or something but with this much energy... I could try absorbing and purifying it.

The other Anomalies were still trying to charge up the slope so I thought I might as well try it out.

But without me needing to do anything, the life energy from the diamond Anomaly suddenly drained out from the corpse and flooded straight into me.

Moreover, it was even the purified life energy and not the contaminated one too, like I had just activated some kind of automatic collection system or something.

That was when I realised what exactly was happening and summoned the jade book to appear in front of me immediately.

The pages of the book started to flip on their own and it stopped on a blank page, right before the blank pager started to fill up with colour and the illustration of the diamond Anomaly appeared right before my eyes.

Oh~ So that’s how it works? Does this mean that this jade book functions on absorbing life energy or something? That might explain while dual cultivating with Ava and Olivia filled in more colour on their pages.

Does that mean if I absorbed their life energy, I could fill in more of the page?

Hmm... The problem is that taking out their life energy could kill them though... Dual cultivation only works because it’s exchanging our life energy so I give them some of mine while they give me some of theirs...

But since life energy recovers over time... Maybe if I absorb them slowly over time, it might actually be filled up without me needing to resort to dual cultivation with the guys?

That’s worth a try I suppose. Might as well test that theory out when I get the chance in the future.

In the meantime though...

I turned my gaze towards the Anomalies that were still trying to push their way up towards the Vanguards.

Let’s try this out...

I reached out my hand, trying to feel the earth beneath my feet and all around me.

At first, it didn’t feel like there was anything different until I focused my attention a little to the rock and I felt like an invisible link had been formed.

I flicked my hand and the rock immediately shot away like a comet, smashing into a crowd of Anomalies that were unfortunate enough to be standing there.

I then reached on my other hand and a chunk of earth tore itself out from the wall to hover in front of me.

Hmm... I can move the earth now... And I don’t even need a really long lever to do that.
