Eins picked up the unconscious Off-Worlder and hefted him on top of her shoulders, the chains that had once been tied around his ankles already broken by me.

But right as we were about to leave, I heard footsteps coming from the ramp and I quickly put on my mask again before moving to the shadows to hide by using [Shadow Wall] over us.

Unfortunately, there was no way the Off-Worlder's disappearance would go unnoticed so I was preparing to either kill or knock out whoever was coming in case it turned out to be a bandit.

A rather tall Mahun stepped into view, revealing a quite well dressed man standing at the bottom of the exit, his attire making him look like he belonged in some high class establishment rather than the basement of a building within a bandit fort.

Because of that, I hesitated, wondering if he might just be the noble that Unerolia was looking for or maybe someone related to him.

The man looked around the room, clearly looking for the missing Bob that was still unconscious and draped across Eins's shoulder.

Just as I was about to consider going to knock him out, the man spoke up, "You can come out. I know you're hiding in that shadow over there."

He even directly pointed his finger directly at where we were hiding to show that he wasn't bluffing.

At least… I don't think he's bluffing…

I chose not to move, hoping that he might think he was mistaken and just leave or at least turn around so I can hit him from behind.

He crossed his arms and looked directly in my direction, "Please don't take me for an idiot. I know you are there. Just come out, I wish to talk."

Hmph… Like I would believe him… But fine, let's see what he wants I guess.

I stepped out from the shadows and allowed myself to be seen, though I made Eins remain hidden with Bob just in case he still doesn't know how many of us there are.

He frowned when he saw me appear, "Where is the slave that was supposed to be here?"

Oh? So maybe he isn't able to see Eins and Bob? Was it all just a lucky guess?

No… He seemed so sure that I was there, so he must have somehow knew someone was there but probably not how many people.

I shrugged, "He's already gone from here. So what do you want to talk about?"

He narrowed his eyes at me, "You took him away already?"

"More like I sent him away. Is this what you wanted to talk about? Because if it is, then I have nothing else to say."

"I see… I have a proposal for you."

I tilted my head at him while tilting my body sideways a little to hide my right hand behind me, summoning my Shadow Sword behind me.

"Let's hear it then."

He reached up and straightened his collar, "I know that you haven't removed him from the premises and you most likely hid him somewhere. But it just so happens that my employer has decided to remove him from this position so this works out for all of us. You can take him out of this fort with you."

Eh?

"You're just going to let us leave, just like that?"

He shrugged, "My employer had intended for this to be a temporary arrangement from the start anyway and we already have the materials we need to be self-sufficient. Anymore beasts than this and we would have a supply problem and keeping him here is a liability. So if you are going to help us get rid of him anyway then be our guest."

Wait… Does he think that I am here to assassinate him or something?

Let's just make sure…

"I have others that I'm here to save though. Don't suppose you would let me take them with me?"

He frowned at my words, "Who?"

"The travellers that this bandit group had captured earlier today. They should be kept inside that warehouse."

His frown deepened before he looked me up and down, the guy probably trying to evaluate my strength to decide if he should comply or not.

He paused to scratch his chin for a while before nodding at me, "Fine. I'll get them to release them and you'll be gone by today. Agreed?"

"I was already intending to leave before you stopped me in the first place."

"Very well then. Let me escort you out in that case."

"What about his slave collar?"

He raised an eyebrow, "Are you asking me to remove it? You do know that he's a criminal slave right? Only a judge or a noble in a judicial position can remove that."

Oh… I didn't know that, but let's just pretend I did.

"I'm asking if your employer could do so."

"My employer would prefer to stay out of this as much as possible so I will not be asking them that."

Without waiting for a response, he turned around and started walking towards the slope to ascend back to the surface, his shoes clicking loudly against the ground.

Alright then… I guess we'll just follow along for now?

Obviously I'm not trusting this guy one bit and I believe he was probably trying to guide me into a trap or something so I made some preparations just in case…

I took the unconscious body from the shadows before following after the guy by myself, thinking it would be better if he thought that I was working alone.

He paused halfway up to see me carrying the unconscious guy over my shoulder, his only reaction being a slight raise of his eyebrow and nothing else.

He didn't even call me out for lying about where the guy was and simply continued to walk up the slope to get out of the basement.

When we reached the end of the slope, I was expecting an ambush there waiting for me but surprisingly the hall was still empty.

Surely they would be waiting outside then?

He walked through the door and I was greeted with… A completely empty courtyard in front of the house.

The only guards were the same four that I saw earlier who were watching the door earlier and they looked quite surprised to see me emerge from the door with the guy.

Two of them immediately stood up to rush towards us, their weapons drawn.

I would have thought this was the trap he had prepared if it wasn't for the fact that they still looked entirely confused by what's going on.

"You there! What are you doing?!" One of them called out, pointing his sword at me.

I didn't even need to do anything as the well dressed guy just waved his hand at him, "It's fine. She's with me. There's no need to guard this building anymore and there's going to be a change in leadership."

The bandit even more confused, "Huh? Wait… So the boss is being changed? Is she the boss now?"

"No. We'll explain later. Just go back to your duties for now, we'll let you know of the arrangements later. Be sure to let the others know as well."

The bandit furrowed his brows before looking at me up and down.

I wasn't sure what was going through his head but the bandit soon sheathed his sword before pulling his comrade away by his arm to return to the other two bandits that had remained where they were.

The well dressed guy didn't address what just happened and merely beckoned for me to follow him.

I hefted the unconscious body on my shoulder and stayed a few steps behind him as we walked through the streets of the fort.

We ended up walking past a few bandits who looked surprised that we were there and a few even tried to advance on me with their hands on their weapons before the guy waved them away.

The moment they saw that, they sheathed their swords without question rather reluctantly before continuing on their way.

I was still wondering who this person was to be able to command the bandits like that.

I mean… I know he's probably someone who is under the employ of the real leader of this bandit group but the fact that all the bandits here seemed to recognise him makes me raise an eyebrow.

Obviously I had to use [Screened] on him just to see who I was dealing with.

But what appeared in front of me was merely just his name and nothing else which was Carlas.

I couldn't even see his stats or his titles nor his skills.

That's odd… How are all these people able to counter this skill? This is so unfair…

Unless… They found out about Off-Worlders from Bob and figured out how to counter this skill? But I don't think Bob has [Screened] right?

Those thoughts disappeared from my mind when we reached the building that the travellers were kept in.

Welp… Things are going surprisingly smoothly for now I guess?
