When the Side Character Gets a System and Travels through Difference Worlds-Chapter 103: Chi Mo 57
"So with everything going on, I still can’t miss my livestreams," Gao Jing sighed. "But honestly, the busier I am, the more grounded I feel. It feels like I’m truly living."
Chi Mo said, "Being busy is good. Whenever I’m in a bad mood, I go practice dancing. After I’ve danced myself to exhaustion, all the bad feelings just disappear."
"A bad mood? Who got you down?" Gao Jing’s gossip radar perked up, her eyes already starting to gleam.
Chi Mo saw this coming. "It was no one. I’m at the train station now, so let’s talk later."
"Okay! As for the formal gown, I know a few design studios. Want to go check them out together sometime?" Gao Jing was always thoughtful. Since they both needed to borrow gowns anyway, she figured they might as well go with Chi Mo.
Tan You suddenly spoke up. "I can make it for you. I actually enjoy making clothes for people."
Chi Mo immediately declined Gao Jing’s offer. "I know a master artisan I can ask to make one for me. It’s not like I’m walking a red carpet, so I don’t think it needs to be that extravagant. Something elegant and tasteful will be fine."
Gao Jing immediately recalled the little dress Chi Mo had given her daughter. "Is it that same master artisan? Alright, then I’ll just go look on my own."
The call ended after a few more words. While waiting to board, Chi Mo couldn’t hide her excitement. "Youyou, why don’t you make a few more pieces for me? I absolutely love the clothes you make."
"How are you so multi-talented? You know how to manage finances, you can dance, and you can even make clothes. Ever since I got back, aside from a few down jackets and sweaters I bought, almost all of my other clothes were made by you."
Thinking of her closet full of clothes, which had nearly every style and design imaginable, Chi Mo’s eyes curved into a smile. Her hobby was just that simple—she just loved pretty little dresses.
Tan You replied, "I don’t think that’s a simple hobby at all. As long as it doesn’t affect or hurt anyone else, you have the right to enjoy whatever you like. Of course, as a tailor, I’m very happy that someone likes the clothes I make."
Tan You had a very clear understanding of her own abilities. As for design talent, she didn’t really have much. But she had seen a great deal. After seeing so much, one’s aesthetic sense naturally improves.
And most importantly, Chi Mo was her biggest supporter. Plus, she was exceptionally good at being endearing, so Tan You genuinely enjoyed making clothes for her. It was a way to put her skills to use, wasn’t it? If she went too long without sewing, what if she got rusty?
Tan You could make formal gowns, too, but unlike contemporary styles, her creations emphasized elegance and modesty. While showing off one’s waist or back could certainly highlight a good figure, neither Tan You nor Chi Mo liked overly revealing designs.
Plus, since Chi Mo was a classical dancer, Tan You subconsciously gravitated toward traditional Chinese styles, such as *mamian* skirts, *qipaos*, or *hanfu*.
"Every single outfit is so beautiful, I don’t know which one I’ll wear," Chi Mo said, her heart skipping a beat as she looked at the clothing rack before her. ’This modern take on traditional Chinese aesthetics is so captivating.’
Tan You was pleased as well. "You can wear the others whenever you like. They work well as everyday outfits, too. I think they’re suitable for any occasion."
Chi Mo’s finger finally settled on a *mamian* skirt set. "I’ll wear this one to the event. A beige blouse with a light purple *mamian* skirt. I love it. And if I happen to have to dance on stage, this outfit won’t look out of place, so I won’t need to change into a separate dance costume."
Now that the outfits were made, Tan You didn’t interfere with Chi Mo’s choice. "As long as you like it. But to make a *mamian* skirt look good, you need the right pair of high heels—and they have to be comfortable ones that won’t give you blisters."
Chi Mo thought about her shoe collection; she rarely wore high heels. "I’ll go out and buy a pair in a bit. Do you know where I can find comfortable high heels that won’t give me blisters?"
"I’ll recommend a shop to you. I’ve already sent your measurements over, so you can go and try some on." Tan You was always one step ahead; after all, she knew from experience how careless Chi Mo could be.
Overjoyed, Chi Mo tried to give Tan You a bear hug, but, as expected, she lunged at empty air. She wasn’t discouraged. "Youyou, you’re the absolute best!"
Tan You replied, "Enough with the flattery. If you’re really grateful, you should get back to work. Your fans are already asking for a new dance video."
Chi Mo readily agreed. "No problem! I’ve almost got it all figured out. I definitely won’t disappoint everyone."
When it came to dance, Tan You had a fundamental aesthetic sense. Combined with her broad knowledge, she was perfectly capable of judging whether a dance was beautiful.
Since Chi Mo had a plan, Tan You didn’t pry any further. While Chi Mo went to the handmade shoe shop, Tan You settled in a corner to read and study. ’Only those who have experienced loss can truly appreciate the value of learning.’ That was exactly Tan You’s state of mind now.
Every time she saw Tan You holding a thick, dense tome, Chi Mo felt a little faint. It was the slacker quaking in the presence of the star student—a pure display of intellectual dominance.
So, Chi Mo generally didn’t disturb Tan You when she was studying. She was a grown woman; why would she need Tan You to shadow her every move? Besides, she was much older than Tan You.
After all, in her eyes, Tan You looked no older than fourteen or fifteen, while Chi Mo, by any measure, was over thirty—though her biological age was currently twenty-eight, turning twenty-nine soon.
"That’s your actual age. In traditional age reckoning, you’d be thirty," Tan You said, turning a page and twisting the knife. Their minds were linked; she knew everything Chi Mo was thinking.
"Thirty, so what? Just tell me, does this face look thirty to you?" Chi Mo wrinkled her nose smugly, clearly very pleased with the beautiful appearance Tan You had bestowed upon her.
"Right, it doesn’t. Twenty-three or twenty-four at most," Tan You replied, exasperated. "Accepting the natural process of aging is also a form of inner strength. Of course, I’m not judging those who fight to hold back time. That’s their business, and it has nothing to do with me."
Chi Mo thought for a moment. "Even when I get wrinkles someday, I’ll still be a beautiful old woman. I won’t go out of my way to get cosmetic procedures. Just like you said, I’ll gracefully accept the passing of youth. Every stage of life has its own unique beauty."
There was a hint of surprise in Tan You’s eyes. "It seems you’ve matured when I wasn’t looking."
"A person has to grow up eventually. I’ll gracefully accept every stage of my life," Chi Mo said with a pout. "It’s like you said, ’Even a fool may sometimes stumble on a good idea.’"
Having successfully found the perfect pair of high heels, Chi Mo was in an excellent mood. She focused on her dance practice while looking forward to the mid-year gathering. She was just going to have some fun and see what it was like; she hadn’t really thought about anything else.
Things like passionate affairs or fateful encounters weren’t even on her radar.
Saturday arrived quickly. Chi Mo had gotten to S City on Friday afternoon. She and Gao Jing had made plans to attend the event together the next day, so Chi Mo checked into a hotel near Gao Jing’s home.
She knew how to do her own makeup, and for her hair, she was just going to put it up in a simple bun. She didn’t need a stylist at all.
