When the Side Character Gets a System and Travels through Difference Worlds-Chapter 54: Chi Mo 8
Compared to other girls, Tan You seemed particularly low-maintenance. After washing up, she only did the most basic skincare. That evening, for the shoot, she had put on some light makeup—a rare occasion for her—and even that felt like a hassle.
In her memory, Chi Mo would sit in front of the mirror for hours, just dabbing and smearing things on her face. Tan You couldn’t understand it, but she respected it.
Around six o’clock, Tan You got up right on time. Chi Mo was a dancer and practiced in the dance studio nearly every day. Since Tan You wanted to continue Chi Mo’s career, her dancing was one thing that absolutely, positively could not have any mishaps.
Ten minutes later, Tan You, bundled up in a down jacket, headed to the gym on the fifth floor. She had asked the front desk yesterday; the gym had a dance studio where she could practice her fundamentals.
The hotel was very quiet in the early morning; outside, it was still pitch black. Tan You found the gym easily. It was completely empty. Without a glance at the exercise machines, she headed straight for the dance studio.
After running through her fundamental exercises twice to thoroughly warm up, Tan You took out her phone. Soon, a gentle melody filled the dance studio, and Tan You began practicing her choreographed routine to the music.
Her movements gradually shifted from rusty to fluid, a clear sign of her progress. She remained in this focused state until an alarm rang, startling her out of the rare trance.
Tan You felt a pang of regret. ’That state is so hard to achieve. It’s a shame I’m so rushed today. Who knows when I’ll be able to get into that zone again.’
She put her phone away, slipped back into her thick down jacket, and hurried out of the gym. She wasn’t the type of person who liked to inconvenience others, nor did she enjoy making them wait. If she went back to wash up now, they should be able to head out right away.
’My bags are mostly packed from last night...’ Musing on this, Tan You quickened her pace.
"Momo, you’re up so early? Why are you sweating so much?" Just as Tan You was about to go into her room, the door to the room next door opened, and out stepped Zhou Wenwen.
Tan You smiled. "I was just in the dance studio. I have to practice every day."
Zhou Wenwen said with a sigh of admiration, "That’s incredible! You should hurry and get washed up. Don’t catch a cold."
"Okay, we’ll talk later." Tan You gave Zhou Wenwen an apologetic smile and gently shut her door.
At eight o’clock, all the guests gathered at the airport. The cameras followed everyone relentlessly, and for a while, countless eyes were on them. Tan You knew this footage would most likely be used for behind-the-scenes clips and probably wouldn’t make it into the main broadcast.
If they wanted to film, then let them. Tan You didn’t pay it any mind. However, she failed to notice that her assigned cameraman was practically her shadow, seizing every chance for a variety of close-up shots of her face.
Yet even in such close and clear shots, one could hardly find a single flaw on Chi Mo. This made the cameraman even more delighted; he wished for nothing more than to follow and film Tan You constantly.
Now, everyone on the production team envied him and Chi Mo’s segment director. After all, who else got to be exclusively in charge of Chi Mo?
"This face, seriously, not a single bad angle. 360-degree perfection. She’s just so beautiful."
"And the crucial part is, she’s not even wearing any makeup. It’s a completely bare face, all-natural beauty."
The young female segment director tossed her hair. "I noticed that ages ago. It’s always the non-celebrities who are the real knockouts. She’s just gorgeous. If I ever got angry at a face like that, I think I’d have to slap myself."
They were in the departure lounge, where the guests had naturally split into groups: the women, the men, and the production crew. Tan You sat next to Zhou Wenwen, the two occasionally whispering to each other.
Gao Jing said, "You’re so dedicated, practicing first thing in the morning?"
"It’s like this every day," Tan You said. "I’m choreographing a new piece right now. I’ll get you all tickets when it premieres."
"That would be amazing!" Gao Jing replied. "You have no idea how much I envy dancers. They’re always so beautiful."
Tan You said shyly, "I mostly just do classical Chinese dance. I’ve dabbled in other styles in my spare time, but I’m not proficient in them."
Lin Meng’s interest was piqued. "I saw a movie once about the flying apsaras. Momo, could you perform a dance like that? I heard we’re going to a desert on this trip. Just imagine, a beauty dancing in the vast desert—how amazing would that look on film?"
Tan You thought for a moment. "I know a little. If you want to see it later, I can dance it for you. I’ll need to re-choreograph the piece, though."
Tan You didn’t think of it as showing off. ’Since I’m on this show, I should put my skills on display.’
The director’s ears perked up. "When we film in the desert, I’ll make sure to have a costume and props ready for Chi Mo. It will absolutely be a showstopper!"
Tan You waved her hands dismissively. "It’s not that big of a deal, really."
’It’s just ninety-point beauty, how is that enough to be a showstopper? Then again, what would a hundred-point face even look like?’ Tan You felt a flicker of anticipation but decided against maxing out her beauty value just yet.
’If the original owner’s evaluation is also factored in, then I need to be more strategic about using the beauty value. I can’t just hand it out so easily, or I’ll seem far too generous.’
As the group chatted quietly, Zhou Wenwen glanced outside the lounge and laughed. "Almost everyone who walks by does a double-take. Even though Momo is only showing her chin, that beauty of hers is impossible to hide."
Lin Meng joked, "Every part of a beautiful woman is beautiful, right down to a single strand of hair. How could a simple hat ever hide that?"
Tan You praised them sincerely, "But you’re all beautiful. And they aren’t necessarily looking at me; you’re all very pretty, too."
Zhou Wenwen teased, "If it weren’t for all these cameras, I bet tons of people would be trying to hit on Momo. Would you say the film crew is killing your chances at romance?"
Tan You knew she was just teasing. "Well, they’re killing your chances too. You have no idea how captivating your intellectual aura is. I absolutely adore it."
’She really did admire women like Zhou Wenwen—intelligent, elegant, and poised. It was obvious at a glance that she was well-educated and came from a good background.’
"Gao Jing is so outgoing and funny, and Lin Meng is gorgeous—a classic cool, sophisticated type. You’re all incredibly beautiful." Tan You didn’t speak often, but when she did, her tone was always sincere. It was obvious she meant every word.
Gao Jing squeezed Tan You’s hand. "My only regret is not being a man. Otherwise, I’d definitely keep someone like you hidden at home where no one else could look. So beautiful and sincere, and you give the best compliments. How could anyone look at you every day and not be happy?"
Tan You just smiled. She was clearly more relaxed around the other women, and her smile was much brighter—nothing like how she had been yesterday with the men present.
While the women chatted softly, the men were each engrossed in their phones. Xu Jike fiddled with his own phone, but his ears were trained on the women’s group, and his eyes kept drifting over to Chi Mo.
Unfortunately, with Zhou Wenwen and Gao Jing flanking her on either side, all he could see was a sliver of her profile and nothing more. Xu Jike lowered his eyes. ’These other women are a real eyesore.’
