When the Side Character Gets a System and Travels through Difference Worlds-Chapter 91: Chi Mo 45
Zhou Wenwen also sighed in admiration. "Seeing her perform once is a treasure in itself. Who do you think could possibly keep such a pearl hidden away?"
Lin Meng said lightly, "No one can hide the brilliance of a pearl. She’ll be seen by more and more people."
Director Liu also smiled. "She wouldn’t be content to be hidden away. I saw ambition in her eyes. Her future definitely doesn’t stop here."
Zhou Wenwen replied, "That’s good, too. I hope more people get to see her."
The first stop of the dance troupe’s tour was fraught with unexpected turns. During the show, the applause was always thunderous and the audience’s response was enthusiastic for everyone. But the moment Chi Mo’s performance was announced, the roar of cheers and excitement seemed to threaten to blow the roof off the theater.
Wu You sat backstage, her eyes burning as she watched Chi Mo. ’If it weren’t for... I should be the one on that stage right now.’
Tan You’s new piece was another classical dance titled "Farewell Mirror." Although she hadn’t perfected the choreography and was already exhausted after performing two numbers, Tan You persevered and completed the dance from beginning to end.
The variety show director watched the stage. "This dance is something special. It’s like one of the flying goddesses from the murals has walked right off the wall."
Director Liu narrowed his eyes. "She’s exhausted. The hand she’s using to hold the pipa is trembling. She’s quite the fighter."
Director Wang countered, "That’s her respect for the stage."
Lin Meng stomped her foot excitedly. "When Emperor Wu of Han attacked the Western Regions back in the day, it definitely wasn’t for a handful of raisins."
Director Liu and Director Wang both chuckled, clearly agreeing with Lin Meng. If they had known there were such beauties in the Western Regions, what emperor wouldn’t have been captivated?
After pushing through to finish the last performance, Tan You only let out the breath she’d been holding once she was backstage and out of the audience’s sight. She stumbled, and Teacher Wen hurried over to support her. "Are you alright?"
Tan You smiled. "I’m okay, just tired."
Teacher Wen slipped a piece of chocolate into her hand. "Let me help you go rest over there. Aside from the final curtain call with the whole troupe, you can take a break."
Wu You whispered, "You can’t rest. There are still two more shows tomorrow and the day after."
’If I hadn’t been set up, I would be the one on stage right now. Why else would I be sitting backstage, just watching wistfully?’
Tan You could understand what Wu You was feeling. "Just focus on recovering. You should be all better in about a week, and then you’ll be able to go on stage."
Wu You sighed. "I guess that’s the only way."
After a brief chat, Tan You regained some of her strength. She didn’t go to the audience seats, but instead sat with Wu You just offstage. Although it wasn’t as good as a front-row center seat, being able to watch the performance up close like this was pretty nice, too.
Zhou Wenwen was sharp-eyed. "Look over there! Momo’s there."
Lin Meng asked, "Is that Wu You next to her? I didn’t expect them to look like they’re on good terms."
Gao Jing said, "You guys didn’t see the bullet comments on the livestream. Wu You was so fierce just a moment ago, but the second she saw Momo, she became all meek and obedient. Her expression changed in a flash."
At that moment, the show was reaching its conclusion, and the host was calling the entire dance troupe to the stage for the curtain call.
Wu You nudged Tan You. "Ms. Chi, it’s time for you to go on stage."
Tan You smiled. "Alright. Next time in S City, we’ll go on stage for the curtain call together."
Wu You pressed her lips together, then smiled. "Okay. I’ll work hard to recover so I can get back on stage soon."
After the troupe took their collective bow, the first performance of the first stop on the tour officially ended, and it was time for everyone to go their separate ways. Teacher Wen looked at Chi Mo. "Are you leaving with us, or...?"
She knew Chi Mo wasn’t a good driver. Besides, she wasn’t comfortable letting such a beautiful young woman go home alone so late at night.
Tan You glanced at the group of people waiting backstage. "My friends are here. I’m going to hang out with them for a bit, and I’ll take the girls back to my place to stay over afterward, so you don’t have to worry."
Teacher Wen smiled. "Okay. Meet at the dance troupe at ten tomorrow morning."
"Don’t worry, I won’t be late." Tan You nodded. "I know you and the troupe leader are busy, so I won’t take up any more of your time."
’As for what they were busy with, it had to be about Wang Hui. Although I was busy preparing for the show tonight, I’ve already pieced together what happened. They’re probably stressing over how to punish Wang Hui.’
"Yes, it’s a headache," Teacher Wen admitted. "You just focus on your dancing. Don’t worry about other things."
Tan You’s eyes crinkled into a smile for Teacher Wen before she trotted over to Gao Jing and the others. Gao Jing and Zhou Wenwen pulled Tan You into a huge hug, swaying back and forth a couple of times on the spot.
After the two let go, Lin Meng handed her a bouquet of flowers. "Congratulations on a successful performance. I hope you’ll shine brighter and brighter from now on."
Tan You held the bouquet. "Thanks, Mengmeng. It’s a shame I was so busy tonight I didn’t get much time to spend with you all. Brother Xiang, Brother Lei, Lawyer Xu, I’m so sorry."
Xiang Zhe shrugged. "I didn’t feel sorry when you gave us the tickets. We’re incredibly lucky to have seen such a spectacular performance. Just think how many people are going to be jealous of me later."
Shi Lei laughed too. "That’s for sure. My colleagues were green with envy when I got the tickets."
Tan You said, "Well, when the tour goes to S City, you can all come watch it live."
"You have no idea how hard it is to get tickets," Shi Lei teased. "Everyone is constantly watching for the ticket sale announcements, but they sell out every single time."
"Little Chi, congratulations." Just as the group was chatting animatedly, Director Liu, Teacher Xu, Brother Chuan, Director Hu, and a few others walked over. It was Director Liu who spoke, calling out with a smile while still a good distance away.
Tan You was a little surprised. "Director Liu, long time no see. I thought you wouldn’t be able to make it. I heard from Teacher Xu that you’ve been very busy lately."
Director Liu gave a friendly laugh. "How could I not? It would have been a real shame to miss such an artistic performance. I found a lot of inspiration in your dancing."
"It’s my honor," Tan You smiled. "Everyone’s been watching the show for so long. If it’s convenient, shall we all go grab a late-night snack together?"
Tan You was just a bit reserved, but that didn’t mean she lacked social skills. In fact, if she put her mind to it, she could make everyone feel comfortable and well-cared for; it was just a matter of whether she wanted to.
The large group made their way to a hot pot restaurant. In their private room, no one fawned over Director Liu just because he was a famous director. They treated him like a regular person, which made him feel quite at ease.
Ever since he became famous, it had been a long time since anyone had treated him so normally. To be frank, the feeling was really nice. Perhaps it was because they were all ordinary people who didn’t aspire to the dazzling world of fame and fortune.
After a lively time with everyone that lasted into the early hours of the morning, and after seeing off Director Liu, Teacher Xu, the variety show director, and the others, the cast of the romance reality show finally had some time to themselves.
Gao Jing was the most forthright. "You guys," she said to the male cast members, "go do whatever you’re gonna do. We girls are sleeping over at Momo’s tonight. We’ll all go to the dance troupe together tomorrow."
